It’s a rare day for a foreign dignitary to address a Joint Session of the United States Congress, with the three most recent being French President Emmanuel Macron in 2018, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi in 2016, and His Holiness Pope Francis in this clip (as the leader of the Holy See/Vatican).

halofornoobs93 Marxist ideology implies a utopia where people help each other and live evenly with other people (essentially no class). This is the definition of communism. Socialism is where a government has one single party that controls every aspect of peoples lives known as a dictatorship. Examples china (just about) and North Korea. Democratic socialism is where the government works for the interest of the middle class or the common people. Elections are still held and everyone pays an equal tax rate regardless if income. Examples European nations. Capitalism where the free market controls standard of living and its everyone for themselves. Example united States. Now do the same and pick up a book and read. Why are you allowed to vote?

I love watching politicians scramble to come to terms with their 'love' for christianity and their love for money. Anyone who disagrees with what the Pope is saying on behalf of the poor is essentially disagreeing and dismissing the poor, who accounts for nearly 90% of the global population.
+Alyx Jolivet YES! I'm so glad to see these politicians who hide behind their faith as justification for their political ideologies, to FINALLY get a does of reality from their OWN spiritual leader!!
We are all sinners. I've, at times, have hoarded money back in my life. It's not good to do but there are plenty of things that aren't good to do. But sharing our wealth doesn't make us Christian. But, what does? And please, give a biblical reference if you would.
+jereomy clark Being a Christian ultimately entails not being an asshole, which a great and vast majority of [American] Christians either forget or don't realize. In today's [American] society people believe themselves to be Christian just because they go to church on Sunday yet they put out pure prejudice toward anybody who doesn't agree with what they, as individuals, think is right --- which is all cherry picked from the Bible. This is why I have such disdain for today's Republicans. They put their cherry picked religious beliefs before their political beliefs and call them the same thing. Because of this, we are now seeing people trying to say that being Muslim should be criminalized. We're seeing people say that Planned Parenthood is something that it's not. We're seeing billionaires get closer and closer to becoming trillionaires. And yet they tell the poor to fix their own problems by simply not being poor.
This speech was rather poetic. Clearly it's slow paced and hard to discern what he is saying, but pay close attention and you'll find some interesting material.
Say what you want about Speaker Boehner, but this had an extraordinary impact on him and it's very obvious. He is a very devout Catholic and he talks at length in his memoir about how meaningful this was for him. It's cool to see.
If only he would have supported measures that are in line with the spirit of Christianity, like welfare for the poor or healthcare for children. Instead, he dedicated decades of his life to allowing corporations to pollute and cutting their taxes. You know, just like Jesus would have.
I thought it was a good speech. He did not lecture people, he gave them food for thought. Simply watching is insufficient. Instead, focus on the big picture that he is laying out for people. The Pope is a very smart man who has repeatedly demonstrated his ability to convey a message. He had the daunting task of addressing a congress which ultimately has conflicting views on many key issues. He was addressing a room of people who could probably care less of what he thinks, most of who doubt his god-given authority. I'm not saying that there are not good people there who respect the Pope, but that given the direction we are headed, they are clearly not a majority. I though he did well. He humbled himself and delivered a straightforward, but powerful speech which concluded quite well. He respected our country's own history while urging us all to not hold on to the past, but look to the future. As a nation, we allow ourselves to be divided by conflict and led to confusion by the media. Pope Francis urged the leaders of this nation to be like Moses, bringing the scattered people together and to lay down the unalienable rights which have been given to us by God. He urged us to come together and be a family of the whole world, however dysfunctional. I feel he acknowledged that we will always have our differences, but that they should not drive us apart. Aristotle said, "it is the sign of an educated mind to entertain an idea but not to fully accept it." While he did not directly quote this, I still feel it is what he was suggesting. He reminds us of the 'golden rule' which reminds to "do unto others as we would have done unto ourselves." This parallels Mt. 25:40, "Whatever you did for one of these least brothers of mine, you did to me." This applies to many issues of our present day, INCLUDING immigrants and other vulnerable peoples. I'm not saying there are any great answers, neither did the Pope. It should just be said that attitudes of hatred and despise are certainly not acceptable, unless that is what we wish also unto God. Nobody said being a Christian was easy! I think this Pope is on the right path: he acknowledges the necessity of good family life, something which is becoming increasingly unattainable in many places. Pope John Paul II said: "as goes the family goes the nation and the whole world." This spiral-effect axiom DEPENDS upon the implementation of all of the humble suggestions the Pope makes in his speech. We need international cooperation, ethical non-corporation businesses, increased environmental protection, and close-knit community involvement. That is what this country once had - when we all felt like foreigners - and what we can have again if we actually try. There is something to be said for believing that good works are necessary for salvation. These big global issues cannot be accomplished by prayer and meditation alone. However, they CAN be done with the aforementioned things COMBINED with the good works. Our actions are a catalyst for the will of God.
look at John Boehner he was crying like a true man much Respect to him the Vice president and members of Congress and the Senate for taking to heart the words of this Good man
I think he touched on an important point. If every business concentrated it's main goal as the creation of jobs instead of merely squeezing as much profit as possible in any and every which way possible the world would be a better place. Capitalism as a way to create jobs and useful products instead of as a source to create unfathomable wealth would be the best thing for all humanity.
Also, it's not just about the people killed by the death penalty, but more about the society that allows it. Whether you believe in God or not, all life is precious from a fetus in the womb to a convicted prisoner on death row, to the animals and plant life of this world that sustain our way of life. We have a responsibility at all levels of society to protect life, for life is the biggest freedom and right of all.
+DynamicUnreal: Corporations cannot simply focus on job creation while doing business in hostile environments. Always start with yourself, i will pray for you Americans.
It's really incredible the Pope was invited to address Congress given that the majority of this nation is Protestant and there's a heavy history of anti-Catholicism in this country. Kennedy had to visit influential Protestant ministers right before the 1960 election to assure them he would not take orders from the Pope. But I'm glad he came, being a Presbyterian myself, I was happy to hear his message
I like the lighting on the Pope. It is very telling of his actions as a moral compass, as he remembers the true purpose of an active human Pope in society.
I have a question. Can I be a pope? No. Can any you be a pope? No. But the only one who is worthy to bring peace and harmony who is sending the true message of the Christ can be a pope. So I say Only Francis worthy a pope. He is the Lord's gift for us. We must safeguard it at any cost.
I really like this Pope. I don't share his religion, but he certainly has my admiration. I love how he reminded righties that the death penalty is murder, while also reminding the lefties that abortion is also murder. He is brilliant at finding the middle and more enlightened path, like when he speaks about the importance of business and entrepreneurism, while criticizing greed and exploitation of the poor. The connection he made between the atrocities against Native Americans, and the discrimination against immigrants today, was admirable. I hope that the politicians there and the American people watching from home really paid attention and didn't just take for themselves the bits that they agreed with. And I also hope this Pope's enlightenment allows him to change the Church's position on birth control, homosexuality and other issues, which he has already hinted at.
that was outstanding. anyone finding anything negative in this speech needs to back-off. peace, love, compassion, opportunity... what's not to love about that? put me down as a pro-pope atheist. in fact, tomorrow i'll swing by catholic charities and drop off some groceries.
14:40 We must be attentive to every type of fundamentalism of religion or any other type. That should be an alarm for Constitutional CONSERVATIVES... Look at what they did to Protestants who said "sola scriptura"...
Everyone in this thread is so negative. Listen to this man! Stop letting doubt and anger and fear get in your way. He says amazing things and either we focus on the negative and pick it apart, or we think critically and discuss how we can act to put in motion what needs to happen to make the world better. If we are all divided and arguing, nothing will change.
+clurrtree It's not him that's the problem. The problem we have is with the -religion- cult that he represents. The bible isn't fit to be used as toilet paper.
+clurrtree Something tells me the Pope never reads this scripture. Or many many others for that matter: 2 Corinthians 11:13-15 "For such men are false apostles, deceitful workers, disguising themselves as apostles of Christ. No wonder, for even satan disguises himself as an angel of light. Therefore it is not surprising if his servants disguise themselves as servants of righteousness, whose end will be according to their deeds"................Tell me something. Mathew 7:13-14 says only a few will make heaven entering thru the narrow gate. Then how do you explain the Popes 90% approval rate????? I have the answer. 90% entering the wide gate that leads to hell. Just telling it straight like the bible say's. But then I do understand what the WHOLE bible say's is of little concern to most Catholics.
+Cackling Crow He did, but it was because there was talk that certain individuals would stand up during his speech and be disruptive. Thankfully that didn't happen, or else we would've been gravely embarrassed, as a country, to speak against the Pope.
Conlan Hinkel Because only Jesus Christ is the savior of mankind...the Pope is a scheme artist ready to micro-chip your brains and take you to hell...that's all he is here for...to proceed along with the World to the New World Order and to make sure your soul is sealed with the mark of the beast.

Boehner has a heart, maybe some of the legislation he's helped pass has generated guilt. Maybe being in a place where corruption and greed existed for so long and having someone who represents nothing but the goodness in the world in that place is an eye opening experience you'd have to experience only by being who Boehner is and being in that room. So much hate, so much uneducated statements, but guess what? That's your freedom to remain dumb and hateful.
+Brendan Sullivan I would've said good luck also. He might not have been expecting a turned on mic but there was nothing wrong with his choice of words. The pope barely knows English. A "good luck" would've gave him reassurance.
+Brendan Sullivan -There is a reason Boehner told him "good luck". It was reported that Nancy Pelosi, John Boehner, Vice President Biden and other "higher ups" had to post senior officials at the ends of the rows because there was "talk" that some Republicans were planning on voicing their disagreement with the Pope's speech like they did with Obama when they called him a "Liar!" during one speech. Their main disagreements with the Pope's speech were: 1. The redistribution of wealth. 2. Treating immigrants with dignity and reminding everyone they probably came from immigrants too. 3. The selling of weapons to other countries. 4. Man's role in climate change. Luckily the Republican's didn't pull any shenanigans..because they would have hauled them out immediately..though our country would have been the laughing stock of the world if we had treated this holy man with such indignity.
A blessed, holy man for Christ. Not perfect, but a strong voice of reason and mercy in our times. Yep, follow his call to care of the lowly, and to love our enemies.
+Daniel May Pitty the Pope doesn't sell off some of the gold and artwork in the Vatican to actually help a single poor person instead of giving them useless "blessings" and telling other people how to run their country.

+FortiPlex I agree. There are problems here still, sure, but nobody is being killed in the streets for their convictions. You're gay? Fine. You don't practice any religion? That's fine too. In North Korea your grandchildren can be thrown in prison for you speaking out against the political agenda. In Nazi Germany you could very easily be killed for being crippled or gay... and people say we aren't free
+FortiPlex When people like Kim Davis can't exercise her right of free religion and is Jailed? who is free then? If That anthem was created during a time we were a Christian nation and Christians are being persecuted both in job sectors and in public schools where citizens can't practice their rights to Free Religion, is that freedom?
I think its funny that as an atheist I agree more with Pope Francis than US Republicans. On a sub note: What the hell is a figure of Moses doing in Capitol?!
MaxKol 1) They aren't. The only things in the ten commandments that are actual law is don't kill and don't steal. 2)It goes against the whole separation of Church and State thing in the constitution does it not? Its biased to a particular religion. Especially a character which possibly never existed, its very weird.
MaxKol The founding principles of America embraced secularism and liberal philosophy from the Age of Enlightenment. The founding fathers despised religion so I find that hard to believe. Check your own history...
The founding fathers were anything but secular. Read the Declaration. They were not indifferent or hostile toward religion, as you seem to be. They just didn't want there to be a national religion. I think you already know this but have issues with religion. Ask yourself how did America make such a huge leap in such a short time and become the greatest country(?)
There were many points in Pope Francis's speech that are true and there are some that I agree with. For too long people have used the name of religion for ignorance and hate. For too long people have expressed their hatred towards immigrants who come here for a better future, for greater opportunities yet their own ancestry is a long line of immigrants. The Pope touched moral ideals that Congress needs lessons in. So many people from around the world see America as a land of dreams but currently America has been degraded in its own corruption. The American dream withers away as many of its citizens just sit, ignorant of the real problems that the world faces. And most of all the majority forgets that we are all human.
Evil is not content to have a little piece of your life. It wants it all. There can't be no deal, no negotiation, no coexisting, no signing treaty... you can not accept it in your life. The only way to deal with evil is to destroy it. The only way to deal with evil is total war... No prisoners. You give evil a little room and it will destroy your life. It will gain ground on you. There is only one way to deal with evil, and that is all the way, not to leave one behind... he is evil.
+classyteacherdiva Some of the Justices do not attend any session of Congress, believing that their presence would indicate a political preference. As Justices, they would likely hear cases involving issues that the Pope would address. Notice, also, that those who did attend refrained from applauding during the speech.
+Jeff Porcaro Groove Master You're right. There had been some pressure on her to step down prior to the 2014 elections so that the President could name a successor while his party still had a majority in the Senate, but she resisted. It seems likely that the next President will have an unusually large number of vacancies to fill as these Justices age out, by retirement or death.
A true Christian will talk about salvation, and sin that effects us all, abortion and homosexual life style..lying stepping out and cheating in a marriage etc. And if you truly want saved ask Jesus to forgive you repent! For man cannot save you. I hope and pray who ever reads this that this message will bless you. And ask Jesus for forgiveness now and don't wait. Jesus and his love is waiting . Don't put your faith in man no matter how nice and pleasant he seems....Jesus is the only way.
The Pope has absolutely no business addressing the US House and Senate. This is completely inappropriate and to lecture the US to accept more immigrants - sorry pope - not in your purview.
*****- You could not be more wrong. The U.S. Capitol is a government building not a Catholic cathedral. The national cathedral would have been the appropriate venue for the Pope to speak - NOT the House chamber.
+Julia Gowan - Vatican City is hardly a country. It's less than 1/3rd of a square mile with only 800 or so people. Get real people. This is just not the right place and if crybaby Boehner wasn't an ardent Catholic, it would never have happened.
Why is William Tyndale important? William Tyndale (1494-1536) was an English scholar who is best known for his English translation of the Bible. Tyndale was deeply influenced by Martin Luther and the Reformation movement. He was particularly disturbed by the fact that the common man was unable to read the Bible for himself. In 1535, Tyndale was arrested and jailed in the castle of Vilvoorde (Filford) outside Brussels for over a year. In 1536, he was convicted of heresy and executed by strangulation, after which his body was burnt at the stake. To Upper Cut - That's what Catholics do, they feed the poor. U may not know this, but until around 100 years ago, there were no public schools, no public hospitals. The church and the church only offered us hospitals and schools and universities that educated the entire western world and beyond, including schooling and sending medical missionaries to the poorest sectors of places in New Guinea and Africa. +newalm Omg, pick up a fucking book you tool if you think what he is saying is Marxist by any extent. Why are people like you even allowed to vote?
halofornoobs93 Marxist ideology implies a utopia where people help each other and live evenly with other people (essentially no class). Why are you allowed to vote?
halofornoobs93 what the pope was suggesting we do is address the issue of income inequality and golabal warming (at least with his main points).
+Andrew Tran Socialism, Marxism, communism, fascism and liberalism....no matter how you slice it, it is all the same thing, nanny government tyranny imposed into everyone's lives.

+StoneyTullip word.
+Emily Charland Does the Bible say that? That helping the poor gives a person a title to be called "Christian"?

@@DogSerious 🌻
Jesus Christ is my lord and saviour.
AMEN
Then he'd save you without any of your country's education, salary, housing?

Allan Melchor is it just me or does Joe Biden look like an eagle?
Allan Melchor You do know that John has a crying problem right? He cries all the time.
+DynamicUnreal That wouldn't be capitalism, but marxism... we the humans like the money.
+DynamicUnreal when a buissness is raped by an illigal tax system it has to squeeze as much profit to pay the employees it has.

It's really incredible the Pope was invited to address Congress given that the majority of this nation is Protestant and there's a heavy history of anti-Catholicism in this country. Kennedy had to visit influential Protestant ministers right before the 1960 election to assure them he would not take orders from the Pope.

Therefore it is not surprising if his servants disguise themselves as servants of righteousness, whose end will be according to their deeds"................Tell me something.

+Christopher Jannette Land of the free? Whatever you are smoking i want some. Who is free? White people?
GOD BLESS POPE FRANCIS!❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
❤ im calling pope Francis!!! Please come to Spokane, WA, and Idaho!!
Amazing Pope Francis! May God bless you! many hearts need love.
I proud of pop Francis great peace makar
your pope is a punk bastarddddd
I think its funny that as an atheist I agree more with Pope Francis than US Republicans.
On a sub note: What the hell is a figure of Moses doing in Capitol?!
+Mia Nanor Our laws are derived from the Ten Commandments. Get it? Moses...the Ten Commandments??
MaxKol 1) They aren't. The only things in the ten commandments that are actual law is don't kill and don't steal.
2)It goes against the whole separation of Church and State thing in the constitution does it not? Its biased to a particular religion. Especially a character which possibly never existed, its very weird.
The foundation of our culture is based on our Judeo-Christian heritage. What's weird is that this is lost on you.
I didn't watch all the video but I guess it's useful so keep the great work I will try to watch it full later :) good luck :)
From your mouth to God's ears God-bless you my son
You know every Sargent at arms gets to say “Mr speaker! The president of the United States!” Not everyone gets to introduce the Pope.
you guys need god in your hearts god bless
31:49 look at John Kerry XD
+Charles Chaplin "Wtf did he just say?" "Advocated for the abolishment of the death penalty" "ohh ok, thought he insulted my momma."
+SethVincent lol
amen!
we are there! and i got one for you!
"If GOD does not destroy America, HE owes Sodom and Gommorah an apology".....Billy Graham!
SethVincent If GOD does not destroy America, HE owes Soddom and Gommorah an apology" Billy Graham
The Most Holy Father is speaking very slowly but the main thing is that His English pronunciation is correct.
Great speech!
Lord bless his holiness, the holy father, Pope Francis!
There is only one way to deal with evil, and that is all the way, not to leave one behind... he is evil.
I only see four SC justices. Where were the others?
Playing Nintendo
+classyteacherdiva Some of the Justices do not attend any session of Congress, believing that their presence would indicate a political preference. As Justices, they would likely hear cases involving issues that the Pope would address. Notice, also, that those who did attend refrained from applauding during the speech.
+classyteacherdiva Ginsberg looks ill. Head down most of speech
+steven franklin--yes, I did note that the ones who did attend did not applaud. The cameras were definitely monitoring their every move.
One of the greatest speeches I've ever heard.
It wasn't a speech. He was trying to read.
@@jacekciszewski4869 most leaders read what they want to say.. It is the content what matters
+S955US84 So, Catholics cannot speak in public?
+S955US84 Isn't the National Cathedral Episcopalian? And he is a head of state.
He is the leader of his Country and as any leader of a country, can be invited to the House to speak.
+Julia Gowan - Vatican City is hardly a country. It's less than 1/3rd of a square mile with only 800 or so people. Get real people. This is just not the right place and if crybaby Boehner wasn't an ardent Catholic, it would never have happened.
Legendary speech, probably the best speech I've ever heard.
Lastly More this guy probably touches little kids inappropriately
He a bastardddd pedooo dealerrr!! pos vatican raidedddd for humaannn trafficinggg during plandemikk!
I agree with the thing that the Speaker, sat at the Most Holy Father's left behind, is very moved with what's happening.
CAN WE PLEASE STOP CLAPPING LITERALLY FOR GODS SAKE
correct, they are clapping for god's sake.
Amazing!
A riddle for Rome; by Ben David:
Riddle me this, and riddle me that,
what was that from under your hat/?
We came, we saw, it is no longer hidden?
For out of their mouth, it was forbidden/?
They laughed, they spread, by stealing others their bread/...
Wasn't Rome? An Army In Red?..
She claims to be first? but She's of the worst,
"The Tournament Begins! Now Slay Our Thirst"..!
They mocked, they scorned, they thought from each other..?
"Where in the World can we go find another"?..
For by the mouth a Spirit Speaks;
"The Council of Rome Has Reached it's Peak"...
They scurried, they huddled, there was no ground?
Doesn't Rome..? Just roam around...
?
They fled their fire, the one they started;
She brought Her own scales ?
Just a little Retarded..../?\
The One Who Preached, Is The One Who Cares;
"Paul of Tarsus"!, The man who Reached!!!
