Also in the final destination 2, the highway drive scene reminds , how a normal drive can end us instantly in a tragedy. It is definitely not possible to stop thinking about the crash when we find us driving alongside a massive truck carrying something heavy.

Midsommar's opening filled me with so much dread. Simply because something like that could actually happen in real life and HAS happened. Some people are just born sick, and unfortunately, the family who wants to love them ultimately pays the price.
Sinister's opening is the scariest though.

Not gonna lie, when I saw the first promos and learned what the movie was about and then saw the kids, I thought "those kids are gonna get someone killed." I get it, they're kids, but even within the realm of the movie it had been made expressively clear that loud noise was bad. The dad even took the batteries out of the toy to avoid noise. What happens? One of the kids puts the batteries back, the kid plays with the loudest damn thing in the area, made all the louder by the lack of any other noise, and draws the monsters there. Sorry not sorry but that kid could have gotten everyone killed because he failed to follow a simple instruction.

If not for the clothing styles and the fact that everyone is smoking everywhere (seriously, I was born in '94, so I'm not used to seeing people smoke in a hospital) I could easily for get this movie came out in '75

The actress in the scream series, um, she was so-so but in 2022’s Scream, I thought she died but she didn’t. Scream 4, definitely my favorite my horror opening. It’s not every day that a horror director would have big list celebrities die off in a movie that’s a movie

The opening of Scream is amazing. It perfectly captures the feeling of being trapped. It starts out sweet and almost cheesy, but quickly descends into a game of cat and mouse with Casey ultimately losing.
Side note: it’s not a movie, but if we want to talk about scary openings in horror entertainment, we need to mention the opening to the Michael Jackson Thriller video. It’s much like the Scream opening, with starting out cheesy and romantic, but slowly becomes terrifying. That scene in my opinion is way more scary than anything else on this list.

There's a few openings in my DVD collection that impressed me on first viewing..The Descent, Wrong Turn 1, Dawn of the Dead (remake), The Ring, Mama, Ghost Ship, Darkness Falls, 28 Weeks Later etc but Dog Soldiers will always be up there as one of my favourites.

I’m surprised the opening scene of Cube didn’t at least get an honorable mention.

I don't remember the stories from Trick 'r Treat being CENTERED around Sam, just the rulebreakers.

Suspiria needs to be WAY higher.
I can always roll with the original Nightmare on Elm Street.
Saw 28 Weeks Later in the theater with a fellow horror buff and we were both immensely impressed with the opening.
You can't front on Night of the Living Dead.
I really enjoyed It Follows. Solid intro.
Love the opening to the Americanized The Ring.
Halloween. Jaws. Scream. Solid top 3.

What about Shining opening scene? It was quite simple, but there was something unnerving about it, the feel of isolation, the size of mountains, the music etc.

A quiet place make the grave error of showing it’s monster too soon…

283: It’s been a while since I’ve seen You’re Next on Netflix. Great horror movie, brutal deaths and a great performance by the final girl

Scream was the first horror movie I ever watched. I was 9 and saw it intheaters. Didn't sleep for a week. To this day the opening scene is just *chef's kiss*

28 Weeks Later was the first time I got scared of something happening in the daylight. That money shot of the infected running from the hills is pure chills.
And also my first jumpscare when the woman peeked through the barricade.

Oh my OA I was hoping A Quiet Place would’ve been at number one but I have to admit the beginning of Scream was even better than that one. 😊😊😊😊😊
