Yeah! Have you seen the meme with the pro soccer player writhing on the ground in pretend pain after another player reaches out to touch his shoulder and right next to it is the photo of a cyclist who has ripped-up kit and blood running down his arm and legs riding away from a real crash? As soon as the ref awards the yellow card to the soccer player’s opponent he hops up and streaks across the field following the ball. Meanwhile, x-rays confirm three broken ribs, a broken bone in the wrist, a broken tibia, and 15 stitches for the cyclist who rode that way for an additional 35 miles after the crash. Cycling is about embracing the suck not glory-sucking. Mackey is a REAL deal!!
Watching the full thing gives a much clearer perspective of things than just the crash footage... We can see both Macky and Sam having these moments of constructive racing, pushing each other and appreciating each other and sounding excited about that final sprint... really sad to have had that unlucky moment, but I think it's absolutely clear it was nobody's fault, just an unlucky moment. Congrats on that win, Macky! I agree that you'd have taken it crash or no crash, but I'm sure it would've been a little bit more satisfactory without it lol
Wild finish. He came out of the corner hugging the left, you pounced, then he swerved right. Kind of weird that he lost focus at the very end. But I think the fact that you made up 11 seconds after the first crash, caught up to him, went waaaay faster in the final corner, and then had that burst of speed on the final stretch shows you would have won no matter what. You're a hell of a guy to not flip out and place blame. Congratulations.
I don't think it is to weird that he lost focus, they had been racing/pushing hard for almost 2h. to be a bit out, and fatigued, not really surprising at all. Was a great race until the crash though, half the time it looks like the vid is sped up, and then you listen to the crowd, and realize it is not!

I looked at the time of 35+ minutes and thought "I'll never be able to watch to the end" but this was so fast and exciting I couldn't stop watching. Great race. Too bad about the crash but that happens in racing. Hope you both are ok and congratulations. A quick rule of thumb for gearing. If you add 2 teeth to the ring then add 1 tooth to the cog to get approximately the same gear. Thus a 30x17 (1.77) verses a 32x18 (1.78) is very close to a 34x19 (1.79). Great video.
Heal up Macky! I feel for you. I just went for a quick spin on a easy in town trail I've ridden a thousand times and crashed doing a sharp, slow speed turn. One of your best videos (and that says a lot!)! I can't believe how crazy fast you were descending on a hard tail! In spite of all the foreshadowing I was completely taken by surprise at the crash. The ability to get up and keep going after a mishap has always been the mark of a true champion. With a single speed you rock or you walk, and Macky YOU ROCK!

The crash was his fault, he said that will end by a sprint on the fiinish line and at this time he goes on the right of the track and on the left then on the right again to block the track and prevent your overdrive on him.

Absolutely amazing race and probably one of the xc mtb races I’ve seen. I’m so inspired! Macky was so strong throughout the race and to catch up after crashing was unbelievable. I couldn’t believe the crash at the end, as I was fully expecting Macky to pull ahead and win no problem! I’ve got mixed feelings on the cause of the crash at the end, but good see the sportsman.
