  • Hello Loves! Today I'm bring you the video I've been promising for a few weeks: my review of several gel-based hydrating moisturisers that I've been trying this year! These are mostly suitable for more normal/oily/combo skin types, although if you have dry skin, you might enjoy some of these as a hydrating layer beneath a more emollient/occlusive upper layer!
    Leave me a comment below on your thoughts if you've tried any of these, and also any suggestions for ones I didn't mention that you think I'd enjoy! x

    My friend is a Clinique beauty adviser and she was telling me the other day that the men’s maximum hydrator is the exact same as moisture surge but just with blue dye. Depends on the counter but sometimes the men’s is cheaper than the original moisture surge 😊

    I've never clicked faster in my life lol I've been wanting exactly this video recently 😂
    I LOVE the Neutrogena one. I have the one with SPF, but I can't use it after I've showered because it makes me break out. If I wait till my pores relax a little then it doesn't. It does have a sunscreen smell to it though, but I don't mind too much. The face mask from the same line was AMAZING too if you can find it I highly recommend!

      @@ArnaAlayneMorton yeah! It's called "City Shield" but it's a water gel, so that might be different from the one you have, idk what the difference is exactly. Sometimes I'll just put it on and go outside and it gives you this highlight glow without any makeup at all. So pretty!

    Absolutely LOVE that Clinique one as well on my normal/dehydrated skin. The only thing about those tubs is that I wish they were recyclable. In fact, I wish more packaging in the beauty world was recyclable. It would be a huge selling feature, I think. I dunno. Gotta run off to work! Lovely video, Arna! xoxo

      @@ArnaAlayneMorton I look for the little recycling symbol on every product before I toss it and I have yet to see one on the Clinique tubs. Even googling for answers I'm left with basically no information except that they don't have a recycling program, not whether their packaging is recyclable. Harder plastics (like the Clinique tubs) have additives that make it so the plastic can't be reused. It kind of makes me mad, actually. If a company feels they need plastic packaging, at least make it recyclable.

    Thank you for making this video! I have oily/combination, acne-prone skin and have been on the hunt for a good fragrance-free gel moisturizer for a while. I used to use Neutrogena Hydroboost Gel and liked it, but wanted to find a new one since the gel form has fragrance. The non-fragrant gel-cream (for extra dry skin) was nice and non-irritating, but the dimethicone-y feel was too heavy for my skin under my sunscreen. Tried Krave Beauty Oat so Simple water cream and I love how non-irritating it is, but it's a little too drying/lacking in occlusives even for my oily skin. So now I am eyeing the Soon Jung cream and the I'm from vitamin water after your recommendations! I've also heard good things about the I'm from mugort cream, but have yet to try it.

    A great product review video Arna. I have a dry/combo mature skin. Going through the menopause really messed it up but now I love the skincare routine I have. So, I'm very late to watch and comment by the 109 others before me...but right from the 5 min mark I can say that as someone with dry to very dry skin, gel moisturizers aren't enough for me as a top layer. However, they are great to apply when my skin is still wet (not dripping) to seal in some extra moisture. Then I continue on with my other skin care layers (liquid toners, serums, etc) and too with a heavier moisturizer.
    I have tried the Clinique (love) and a different Had Labo, skin plumping gel cream I think (has a clear container with matte silver lid). I really enjoy your channel and your videos!

    You look beautiful, as always, lovely Dr. Morton! This past summer, my skin turned very oily. Now that it is Autumn, it is nowhere near as bad. It is normally oily according to Clinique’s quiz. I can go about three days without moisturiser and my face isn’t tight or dry at all. Clinique calls that oily skin, so that’s what I have, I suppose. I have clear skin, thankfully, but it is highly reactive. My favourite gel cream right now is the Peter Thomas Roth Cloud Cream. It does make me oily, but it’s so gentle on my sensitive skin, and everything makes me oily. My number one sensitive skin chemical exfoliator is Farmacy Honeymoon Glow. Besides Good Genes, nothing else is gentle enough for me at this point. Oh, and a past total favourite moisturizer was the Sunday Riley Tidal Water Brightening Gel Cream--a gorgeous product. I can’t use Sunday Riley because the masking fragrance makes my mother quite ill when I use them (Good Genes and Tidal). They’re lovely products, though! Have a wonderful rest of your week, dear Arna and be well! Love and hugs! 👼💖🤟🏻🦢🏰🤗👼👼👼🕊🕊🕊👑👑🏰🏰💜💜

    For any Canadian friends here! Don't buy the regular Neutrogena hydro boost gel cream, it has fragrance and dye in it. The one you want is the extra dry skin version, it's dye and fragrance free. I learned this the hard way today by not taking time to read the ingredient list before buying and ending up with a (kind of offensively) scented product 😅

    I have dry skin but I actually use the Revolution one under makeup. Because I'd rather go in with a hydrating primer on top than deal with my moisturizer possibly peeling up (which is a problem with my daily moisturizers). But I completely agree, it's not enough on it's own. If I use it when I'm not doing makeup I use a hydrating oil/serum on top to help makeup for it. But it's something that's worked around, not a stand alone product (for me at least) at all.

    Hi Arna.
    I'm from Malaysia. I just loved your video so much. It is just so satisfying because I have dehydrated skin and I love gel cream moisturizer. I have tried the simple gel cream and for me, it is enough to relieve my thirsty skin. I hope you can try one of the best hydrating gel cream from Korea which is the Always Be Pure Forest Therapy Ultra Calming Cream.
    Lots of love from Malaysia. ❤️

    Have you tried Krave Beauty’s new moisturizer? I think you’d really like it. It’s called “Oat So Simple Water Cream”. Fragrance free! Silicone free! Hydrating! Perfect for oily skin. It’s from a Korean based brand. The ceo, Liah Yoo, also has a UA-cam channel and makes great informative content on skin care.

    I've got a dry, but not flaky dry, quite sensitive skintype and honestly the Clinique Moisture Surge Intense is my skins best friend most of the time, as long as I don't do anything to it it don't like.. But I will also admit I haven't dared trying anything else since I got recommend it 5 years, or so, ago, because my skin can very easy get very irritated if I change to something that has an ingredient it don't like - which can be hard because I don't know for sure which one that is.. But if I stick to stuff marked to dry sensitive skin and stay clear of alcohol, fragrance, parabeens and essential oils(I don't know if it's all essential oils it doesn't like but I had a really horrible experience with a alcohol- and fragrance(other than the essential oils) free origin toner once so now I just stay clear of them if possible), then at least there's a smaller chance of my skin reacting all kinds of crazy..

    • @ArnaAlayneMorton
      @ArnaAlayneMorton  5 років тому +3

      I personally don't use anything super occlusive anymore as I found it would block my pores, but if I feel my skin does need a little more oil, I'll use a couple of drops of the Thursday Plantation Macadamia Face Oil :) I also sometimes reach for the Clinique Moisture Surge Overnight Mask which is nice and nourishing if my skin needs and extra boost!

    Arna, how did you find out if your skin lacks water or oil? I'm trying to figure this out myself! I feel like I have a similar problem to you but I'm not 100% sure.

    • @ArnaAlayneMorton
      @ArnaAlayneMorton  5 років тому

      Well, I tend to have fairly oily skin but my complexion can easily look dull and sort of withered 😅 so if I’m using lots of Hydrating ingredients, I find it balances things well. I do sometimes use a drop or two of facial oil as well if I’m not feeling quite as oily x

The gel cream I love is the FAB Hello FAB Coconut Water Cream of course it's cruelty free but it's also clean beauty and yes it can be a wee over priced at $45 but it always goes on sale at Sephora for $21.
