The reason you got a 5-second bullet bill and green shell in 7th was the fact that your own game/screen decides the items and bullet bill lengths, and communicates through a proxy to nintendo's (well, now wiimfi, but whatever) servers, and to the other racer's wiis. And the reason teleporting happens is the fact that the cpu drives until the other wii's tell your wii where the racer is

At 4:58, Rosalina almost got WR :O
Troy had like a 5 second lag start, so the Rosalina's time was 5 seconds slower than what it appeared to be. (It actually took me a long time to figure that out. I thought before that they almost got world record as well lol)

YoshiKart CCX Troy's timer started counting when Troy started the race, but everybody else started about 5 seconds before Troy, so Troy's timer was essentially 5 seconds behind what it should have been. So instead of the "1:45" that showed on Troy's screen, that Rosa got like a 1:50 (which is still amazing for a normal race lol). It's kind of confusing to explain :P

It might have to do with the leaf piles and them giving out tons of shrooms/bananas maybe reaching some item limit for how many items can be on the ground at once resulting in it giving you an item that cannot be dropped on the ground (a mushroom). That would be my guess.

I think what happened in the second race is that after the game couldn't get a stable connection, it replaced you with a cpu until the game got a connection on other people's screen, so you were probably teleporting when your game got a connection on other people's screens. Oh yeah, everyone you fought was a cpu for the most part. I'm guessing that near the end of the match, the game still couldn't get a stable connection, so the cpu was still up on other people's screens, and it managed to finish before you, so the game gave you the cpu's points.

TWD98 the reason why you got 8th on 2nd race because the game keeps track time NOT the sever. The sever most of time tells what time on each players time is like time trail. So when they finish the race your timer is lower then the 2 players menses you beat them, is even stranger the game don't relay people who in last place and stop them all does stop you and the time.

3:55 when you said you got it by the bomb car there was actually a bomb right in front which exploded as the bomb car exploded which you didn't see but that's the thing hit you. Figured this out after the video being out for 6 years
I hate to be that guy y'know but I'm fairly sure he was looking behind him using the rear view function, that's why it looks like the explosion is in front of him
I remember watching this years ago and thinking this was insane then, but I came back here because this literally happened to me for the first time last night. Everyone was teleporting all over the place, and I got 1st almost every race on my own screen but almost never on anyone else's. So bizarre.

My guess - Mariokart 7's four month old birthday in Japan (notice video upload date, because in Japan it was one day later and MK7 was released on Dec. 1 there) was bogging down their servers.

At 4:39, that was when the worst of the lag went.
In a real-time online race with little to no lag, you can't possibly obtain ahead-of-time opponent coordinates from over the network BEFORE those coordinates are reached and sent (let alone with just Gecko codes).
What probably happened is that, somehow (network failure?), Troy's game received the end-of-synchronization-phase signal 20 seconds after everyone else began the race. This has major outcomes, since Troy's timer is out of sync with everyone else's, which causes the game to glitch out.
This is the most craziest race I have ever seen
I think that your internet router/modem was struggling to connect to the main internet, possibly because lots of other people in your street was using the internet a lot as well. If that is not the case, the I don't know why that happened. Just my best prediction.
Actually, just yesterday I was racing on MKWii with my cousin on regular worldwide races. There were about 10 people in the races I had. One of those people were a yoshi, and they ALWAYS got a 5 second head start, which shows that everyone must've been everyone else was lagging. So that Yoshi almost overlapped us a couple of times due to this lag.

Something quite similar occurred to me once in Mario Kart 7, while playing against someone from Europe.
For the first one, my opponent zipped far off before the race actually start. I was 2nd place the whole time, and a Bob-Omb has appeared out of nowhere. Once I finished it, the game told that I'm in 2nd place, yet the victory music was being played instead. After this and the second race, we all got disconnected.
My Internet worked quite fine during the whole time. How deceptive!

So this is what mario kart Wii online used to be like before people created their own Wi-Fi.
You were placed eight on the second race because the game actually calculates your final ranking based on how much time the race took you, so they must have took longer.
The only thing I could think of while watching this it "Who in their right mind was using Koopa Troopa"
This is some... insane lag. Haha. I've had things like this on mk7, though it usually results in a disconnect win.
I remember when I races in a 1v1 worldwide, and I appeared to be losing and not finish the race, and I happened to see a first place music because I lagged first place.

Becaused of the lag start your timer started later and because your race finished faster (by the timer) than the other people it made you 8th
