When she said "I don't think people were shocked that I went pop, I think they were shocked that I was honest about it" I really felt that. I'm a fan since literally 2006, and I biennially followed her whole schemes and release schedules. I was there in the livestream when she announced Red. Everything. So when I did it all for 1989 and she revealed the full pop, it was disheartening because I saw a shift away from meticulously beautiful songwriting, but I also was just shocked that she was so honest about wanting to shift and keep us on our toes. So in that way, I absolutely adored the 1989 era even if it's not my favorite sonic direction in terms of Taylor Swift. And yet she has still maintained as my favorite artist ever partly because of her honesty, humility (though that's another topic re: her political stuff) and just real person-ness is attractive in its own right, but also she is just really good at adapting to whatever genre she wants to pursue for a given album now. I love her dedication to cohesion now. She doesn't want to leave unnecessary breadcrumbs just to toy with certain audiences, but she's also making her career very welcoming. You may be a country only Taylor fan or you may be a pop only Taylor fan, but her entire platform has always been welcoming and well-mended for those of us that like both Taylors.
