With copper patina, you also have to apply it IMMEDIATELY after you finish soldering (and washing of course). The longer you wait, the worse the patina will look.
Interesting and good tip to hear. May I ask “how so”? I’m curious what exactly happens/what changes with the appearance and outcome the longer the wait time is. I’m very intrigued so I’m excited to read your response and learn the answer here! Heh…thanks!! 🤗
@@madelinewhitney832I’m not entirely sure but I have taken some chemistry so I could have somewhat of an answer for you. Basically, the longer you wait, the longer the outer layer of the solder is exposed to the air. This gives it more time to react with the surrounding oxygen in the air, causing a layer of oxidized metal to form. Because it is no longer “pure”, the patina can only react with the oxidized parts rather than the actual solder, resulting in a worse result. This may not be right but hopefully this helps??
It's probable also the reason the waxing was needed, it gives the solder more time before it gets oxidized. It also doesn't hurt that may help even out the contact with the Patina. @@romaash5432
I wonder if applying the wax right after soldering would extend the time you have to work? How long can wax hold off the degradation by air, I wonder? Maybe that’s why people say to apply wax first (which I otherwise can’t see the point of doing) - what they really mean is apply the wax before you patina, and right after you solder.
No, they cannot. They have a hardness of 4.4 of the Mohs scale, where glass (regular) is 5.5. Tempered glass is even stronger. I’ve been a housekeeper for almost a decade and never scratched glass with a magic eraser. It cleans off hard water spots from glass with ease without harming it.
@@polytoxedwhat do u use to get the film off that magic erasers leaves behind? Cuz that’s what happens when I clean my glass top stove, I use a dry paper towel after, but it leaves like a gritty residue.
Beautiful! Love the idea of doing copper more often… I’ve always wondered why the black patina is seemingly such a go to choice. …at least from what I’ve seen/learned so far, that is! Whenever she posts clips of pieces with the regular silver solder, people comment that they liked it better before she put the solder, with the copper tape, and wished she had copper solder. Can’t win 😂

I love it copper but you definitely should make a silver one like the way it looked before that look is my favorite and it would match my room😂🫶🏼I’d buy it
Your soldering skills are absolutely amazing, as a technician that relies on others soldering to be good, you've got experience I only see in ppl with years of experience. I personally prefer the silver look cause it vibes better with the cold colors I feel but the copper look is ok. Maybe a bit havy on the orange but its ur work so after all u gotta like it.
Omg thank you for sharing!!! I’ve seen so many stained glass shorts and they always look so pretty in copper before the soldering. I’m so happy to see that copper finish is possible.
I love love love the Copper! It brings color and personality to the stained glass. It truly allows the colors and design to stand out as if they have a Beautiful frame around them. ❤❤❤
Oh my god have I been waiting for this!! OOOO i didn't know there was a method to apply copper to solder, i watch a lot of stained glass content and i find myself usually disappointed by the coper tape being covered by the solder. The coper is especially beautiful with the greens in this design 😍
personally, I much prefer the look of black oxidised solder for almost any stained glass; my aesthetic tastes are pretty strongly set. but this is really beautiful and finely made, and the colours are so nice together.
It’s so pretty! I think with this piece though the sliver looks better with the color scheme going on but with warmer toned colors it would look so delicious 👌🏼
Your soldering is SO SMOOTH OMG!!! It’s like seamless I could never guess where you started!! So satisfying to watch but I’m guessing even more satisfying on finished products!
My grandfather did stained glass like that for many years. He actually had a workshop designed in the dream home he and my grandmother built when I was very little. He was also an art teacher and taught many other people how to do stained glass and when he passed they donated his unused supplies to the classroom. This little video reminded me of him and for that I am very grateful. Thank you.
Loving the new shorts Johnathan! They have been great. I love that you address that what’s most important is being able to build the routines and adapt them. Life is constantly changing. Looking forward to making my own new routines since I’ve had some big life changes recently.

Sooooo much nicer
Stunningly Beautiful 🤷🏾♀️🤗
Better???!!! Don't you realize how gorgeous and neat it looks?? It's outstanding girl!!! Congratulations!!!
I love both! Beautiful!
I want one 😢
I wouldn’t say neat, unless you wear glasses there are a bunch of easily spotted blemishes and overfills

I LOVE the copper with the green glass! It’d also look lovely with blue 🤩
I've seen a lot of videos like this. Your design and color palettes are the best.
