I got a Q1 some time ago, filled it (huge ink capacity), wrote with it, and loved it. A pen blogger who has a doctorate really bad-mouthed it, said awful things about it, but eventually changed his mind in a subsequent review. The pen you had reviewed previously with the big cap looks like a mostly-copy of another pen that's so far out of my budget that I don't even remember its name. Majohn/Moonman has some interesting designs, some imaginative executions that are intriguing, and if they're peculiar to some, tough. You can please some of the people some of the time, and you can annoy some of the people most of the time, and some people are just crabby. Thanks as always for your honesty and forthrightness and also being from NJ. Ok, I'll stop now.

Thanks, Judy. Sometimes I think I'm just a voice lost in the whirlwind. Your support makes it all worthwhile.

Hey Chris. Thanks for the review. I had never seen this pen anywhere before. It really is unusual. Like you, I collect fountain pens and this is definitely one of a kind. I think it is reminiscent of the 10 ml blood vials that were ever present in my Laboratory days. I'm definitely shopping for one.

I love Moonman/MaJohn. Their C1 is what really hooked me on fountain pens. I had some other fp's before that, but their clear resin models sealed the deal and sealed my fate as a fountain pen enthusiast. I do not have a V1 yet, but I will absolutely get one. Strange but cool little demonstrator. I obviously need one. Haha!
    Great video, Chris!
P.s. there is a package heading your way this week. Keep your eyes peeled!

I am going to try and make it to FPH for the expo.
I, too have seen a number of postings on this pen. Maybe I have been swayed by the negative remarks, but I think I will pass on this one. For lack of a better term, it is a bit wonky.
The nib writes fabulously. I guess I have been jaded with #6 nibs, even #8 size. In any case I think I will save my coin for something more to my liking.
I just saw an eyedropper at Pen Savings that I ordered. They freely admit that it writes well but if you looking for an experience of something that costs 15X more, it will not happen. Worth a chance at $6.95.

What a funky little pen... Well, not little in the literal sense, but you know what I mean, I'm sure. If it weren't for the tiny little clip, I could see myself picking it up almost like a gag pen/gift. You think it unscrews one way, but it actually unscrews the other! Very unique.

Unique but not practical. Nib dries out too quickly.

Having purchased many Majohn and other Chinese pens, I don't find them necessarily any worse writing out of the box as the Western luxury pens they often emulate. Frankly a lot of expensive pen brands get shipped from retailers with terrible nibs and pen fans will forgive it, especially as they often go to nibmeisters for custom grinds anyway. A lot of people nitpick 12-50 Chinese pens who take massive usablity and durability problems with 200-500 dollar pens in stride. Can't we all get along and pick on the people who really deserve to get picked on-- the brands that pick up a cheap Chinese pen and resell it under their own brand with a 5-10x markup!?

Negative reviews are valuable. What's the point of a review if not to be honest and informative? Some pens are trash, and to pretend that just because something exists, that it was created, doesn't mean it's de facto worthy of a positive review.
If you truly "don't like" negative reviews, that's akin to advocating for those ridiculous elementary school participation awards, which every child knows is nonsense.
Finally, I don't think I'm alone in not trusting reviewers who are unfailingly positive.

There is an objective review & there is a review to incite. I would not review a trash pen. This is not a trash pen.

Enjoyed your 'give a pen an even break' comments. I've got a few weird pens so I appreciated seeing your take
on this one. I find it amusing, and... vac filler

I saw this pen on one of the other pen reviewers page and just went and bought the pen regardless of their review because it is such a wierd and wacky design, i just had to have it. I have not inked it up yet as i have too many pens inked up but when the next one is empty i will be filling mine up.

Good to hear. When you're reeady ink it up. You'll enjoy the writing.

    1. 1000 Chinese pens? Did I hear right? I'd like a look at your storage solution(s) some day. I'm headed the oppoosite direction - I'm down to 36, and hoping some day to get down to 24.
    2. Those not familiar with Franklin-Christoph might be interested to learn that for years they have sold a very similarly designed pen, but fancy: their Model 33. I was intrigued till I got a chance to handle one at a pen show - some (perhaps unavoidable) flimsiness when putting the cap on, put me off. Beautiful, though. And utterly pointless. Two cool traits for a fountain pen.

Yeah. A thousand of any genre of pens is odd. Then again, I don't understand that level of acquisitivness.

I was negative about this pen when it came out. I still don't understand why it was designed in this way. As a curiosity it may find its way into some pen collections. It's not a pen for me.
