    I never hear talk about the Perception Conduit 13. $800 with two dry storage bulkheads and 13' long. They're even rudder ready if you so choose to add one down the line. I'm thinking about getting one before the Spring next year for overnight camping but there's a void when it comes to reviews for it. I'd love to see you do a video one day if you're able.

    Bought two Oru Kayak Inlets last week. Your reviews helped make the decision. You’re right about the criteria. Portability (fitting 2 kayaks in the trunk) was a key factor. Ease of setup and light weight were also important. We’ve had two paddles so far and love the experience. Would like a fast hard shell one day but need the storage/transport capability.

    This was a great review you did of The Kayaks. I just bought my wife her first kayak this summer. She got the Pungo 125 and she loves it. Especially the console on top. It is a very nice kayak. I just wish I could fit in it to test it out. I have big very very extremely wide feet sz15 6 EEEEEE wide with very fat wide toe that are equally straight across making my foot very very wide at 6 1/2 inches wide from my big toe to my lil toe. I have gotten a foot stuck inside the kayak already so it's a no fit for me. Its funny with me being a chubby fat dude I can fit inside the kayak as long as my feet are outside the kayak but cannot put my fat chubby wide feet with chubby very fat wide toes that are equally straight across inside the kayak. But that was great information for a beginner looking for a kayak. Thank you for sharing.

    • @PaddleTV
      @PaddleTV  2 роки тому

      Glad you enjoyed it. I'm not sure if it would make much difference for foot room, but the Bonafide EX123 is a wider kayak than the Pungo up in the bow. It should have a lot more foot room. It's worth testing. The downside is that it isn't as fast as the Pungo... but it's not too far off.

After my first experience of getting my foot stuck in a sit inside kayak I I knew my foot was going to get stuck in my wife's kayak. The combination of my foot being a sz15 , & 6 1/2 inches wide , & having very fat wide toe does not help with fitting. Man it's so much problems having very extremely wide foot. Thank you for the information I really appreciate that I will look into the Bonafide EX 123.

    I would think beginner would also reflect a low price. A lot of beginners don't want to invest a lot of money into something they aren't sure their going to use a lot.
    The inflatable Sea Eagle SE330/SE370's (both tandem two person kayaks) seem ideal for beginners that want something they can easily carry alone, in a small car, that takes up minimal storage space and on a budget.These kayaks are wide and much more stable on the water than most hard shell kayaks. Performance is slow, but to a beginner that would often be perfectly acceptable. The ORU Inlet looks good as a solo craft and I'm thinking of adding one to my kayak fleet, but it's about triple the price of these two I mentioned for someone just getting into kayaking. My first kayak was an SE330. They are currently about $300. I really enjoyed it, and loved that I could bring a friend too. I found I loved kayaking, and now have several much more expensive kayaks, but that was a good one to start with. The SE370 is identical, but about 2 feet longer if you plan on two larger adults.

    • @KZ-yu4jz
      @KZ-yu4jz 2 роки тому

      I agree, however I think all the kayaks he showed were kayaks that someone would continue to use for years to come. I bought a SE370 and liked it, however the more premium Sea Eagle boats are much better(more stable, durable and roomy) than their cheaper versions. I havent used my SE370 this year after buying the SE380x.

    • @n8goulet
      @n8goulet 2 роки тому

      @@KZ-yu4jz I'd agree, but if this video if for beginners, they might as well choose what is ultimately the best kayak for their needs if they are going to spend that much money right off the bat, not even sure if they will like kayaking or find time for it.
      The SE330/SE370 are great stepping stone kayaks for beginners. I took upgraded later.

    • @PaddleTV
      @PaddleTV  2 роки тому +1

      While all these kayaks are below $1000, I admit that I didn't try too many kayaks under $500 this year. I'm hoping to do so next year. In fact, I just ordered and tested the cheapest kayak I could find, which was the Intex Challenger K1. Under $200, and it comes with a paddle! :). You hit the nail on the head when it comes to cheap kayaks... They have to provide a great first paddling experience. If they don't provide a great first experience, then those paddlers will likely never become lifetime paddlers. That's why I'm more of a fan of spending a bit more money to ensure a good first paddling experience, so that people are more likely to become lifetime paddlers. But, if there are kayaks under $500 that deliver that experience, that's awesome! I'm looking forward to trying them out. So many kayaks to test..... :)

    • @n8goulet
      @n8goulet 2 роки тому

      @@PaddleTV I can see what you mean about getting a good first paddle experience. I just think a lot of beginners want to get a taste first, and then upgrade if they really like it. Something to get them on the water, with great stability since they are new at how to balance, etc. By no means is paddling the SE330 or SE370 anything like the Razorlite, which paddles way faster, but is a lot less stable.

      All those kayaks you mention are solid kayaks! Unfortunately I haven't had a chance to test them, and so I can't give you detailed feedback on them. What I can say is that I'm a fan of Old Town, Delta and Eddyline kayaks. The thermoform construction of Delta kayaks helps to keep the weight down, and so that might be a key factor for you. I'm hoping to try a Delta kayak soon, so stay tuned for that review...

      @@PaddleTV I'm a subscriber to the channel, so I won't miss the review! ;-). Indeed, the weight of the Delta 12AR is interesting (42 lbs.) compared to 54 lbs. for the Loon 120 or for the Sorrento 126SK (but this kayak have 2 bulkheads that is an advantage). The weight difference is not that great with the Pungo which is relatively light at 49 lbs. I would have to try them. But it's hard to find a store where you can try them before buying. The only ones I have tried so far are those offered for rent (mostly ROTOPLAST CHIC or similar kayaks). I also want a kayak with a more comfortable seat than the molded plastic seats! ;-) I will look forward to the next kayaking reviews which are always very interesting. Thank you for the information. Unfortunately, I've watched dozens of your videos today, so now I'm second-guessing myself. I'm looking for a kayak that has great comfort for the lower back, holds 270 pounds, broad shoulders, karge torso, and sits someone comfortably at 6'1.
    I would be using the kayak in some strong current situations such as the Wikkie Watche River for manatee watching, the French Briad River for daily use, and inland lakes and rivers in Northern Michigan.
    I feel an open kayak tends to have more comfort options, but I'm not apposed to a sit-in. My price range would feel good around $600, but I'm willing to spend $1,200 if I can cross multiple needs listed above.
    Are there some models that call my name that you would recommend? Maybe you've done a video on them?
    I appreciate any help.

    • @PaddleTV
      @PaddleTV  2 роки тому +2

      Hey Matthew. If you're looking for something that's comfortable on the lower back, a good seat is the key. To get a good seat, you can expect to pay more than $600. For what you describe, I think a 'rec touring' kayak or sit-on-top in the range of 12' long would do the trick for all those uses. 'Rec Touring' would include boats like the Wilderness Systems Pungo 125 (designed for bigger paddlers), or the Bonafide EX123. These boats are sit-inside, but have huge cockpits so that they're easy to get in and out and very comfy. As for 'Sit-on-top' kayaks... The Bonafide RS117 (my review is coming soon) would be good, or the Wilderness Systems Tarpon 120 is a long standing favorite. These are all in the $1000 range, and would easily support 270lbs. Hope that helps!
      PS. Just came across a kayak that is more in line with your budget. The Pelican Ultimate 120 is significantly cheaper. I doubt the seat will be as comfortable as the others I mentioned, but it's worth checking out.

    • @matthewc2810
      @matthewc2810 2 роки тому +1

      @PaddleTV I appreciate the recommendations. I would like to ask if there's specific models you think would really fit my needs that are over the $1,200 cost point? Perhaps $1,800 price range would be more appropriate?
      Thanks, and I will look for the new review.

    Hi Ken. I’m a big fan of your channel. Keep up the great work! I’m curious as to why the Dagger Stratos did make your list? I’ve seen it recommended by others as a great starter kayak that has great versatility and room to grow as a paddler. You seemed to enjoy it during testing. So, why didn’t it make the list?

    • @donkeyavenger
      @donkeyavenger 2 роки тому +1

      It's a nice boat but it has a learning curve since it's not as stable as a lot of the boats on this list and has a rep for dumping beginners in the water since it's very responsive. If you're okay with taking a few spills while you work on skills it's a boat I would definitely consider/test paddle

    • @PaddleTV
      @PaddleTV  2 роки тому +1

      Don't get me wrong... I think VERY highly of the Stratos. I definitely considered giving it an award. If this 'Best in Class' video was 'Best Hardshell Beginner Kayak', it would have definitely received an award from me. The biggest reason I didn't choose the Stratos (or the FeelFree Aventura) is because they're both quite heavy and difficult to carry/transport. It was a very tough decision to leave the Stratos out...

      @@PaddleTV I understand. Thanks for responding! My wife, daughter and I have been taking beginner kayaking sessions at a local club which are held twice a week for the past year now. They supply the kayaks, PFD’s and paddles. We love it and are ready to purchase our own kayaks. We’re currently in the research phase. We’ve been training in sea kayaks, so we are comfortable and stable in a narrower boat. We plan to mainly kayak on lakes and rivers with nothing more that class 1/2 rapids. So we’re looking for something versatile that will be good for both. Maybe even the odd adventure in calm seas. Currently, the Dagger Stratos is on our short list. What do you think? I’d love to have your opinion and suggestions on what may be the best fit for us regarding both model and length. Thanks so much!

      @PaddleTV  2 роки тому +1

      @@derrickrudolph4819 Sorry for taking a while to respond Derrick. Stratos would be GREAT for what you're talking about. The Feelfree Aventura would also be good. It's cheaper, but it's not as comfortable as the Stratos, and so if you can afford the Stratos, I would opt for that one. The P&H Virgo is another kayak that you definitely should consider. One of my favourite boats of all time. It's about $600 more than the Stratos though. The other one that's worth checking out, which I haven't tried yet, is the Eddyline Sitka or Delta 12/14. These are both thermoformed kayaks, which means they're significantly lighter than Stratos, Virgo or Aventura. I haven't tested them yet, but I've heard good things. As for length... unless you plan on doing more paddling in current, and wanting to play around in that current, I think the 14' Stratos is probably the ticket for you, because you don't need the extra maneuverability. That being said... I truly believe that you can't go wrong with either size. Hope this helps!

      @PaddleTV  2 роки тому +1

      Hey Dominic. I think you're looking in the right direction. While I haven't tried the CK1 yet, it does look like it could do the job for you. It would be fine in Class 1 and 2 and flatwater, although it won't be fast on flatwater. I think you have 2 options... a sit-on-top kayak like the CK1, or a recreational touring kayak that accepts a skirt, like the Dagger Stratos 12.5, or the FeelFree Aventura 125. These recreational touring kayaks will perform much better than the sit-on-top kayaks on both flatwater and in the rapids, and they provide more room to 'grow into'. The downside is that they're a little less stable, and you have to be comfortable with the idea of paddling a sit-inside kayak with a skirt. You wouldn't want to paddle these kayaks in Class 1 or 2 rapids without a skirt, as they would get swamped. They now have a high pressure drops Stitch floor for rigidity. That's what kept me away before. I think that's my next Kayak as it beats a hardshell hands down for portability.

      @@truesimplicity I have the Airvolution AE3029 and love it, 33" x 13'.
      I lend it to folks that used a paddle board but are leery of a kayak, to me the Airvolution is definitely a cross between a kayak and paddle board (leaning towards the kayak end off it).
      Keeps up with the Pungo 125 and perception Sundance 12.
      A bit pricey though.
