Texas Spring Turkey Hunt {Catch Clean Cook} Smoked Turkey Legs

- Turkey season started out slow with bad weather and the birds not cooperating I had to get back out there. I headed to the ranch to self film a turkey hunt. the morning started off a little slow after making multiple calls and not getting any calls back. After the third or fourth spot I called at I had two jakes gobble back. I got my decoys into place and no less than three minutes they were right on top of me. I have been wanting to make some turkey jerky so I decided to take one. The particular turkey I got had some sort of previous wound. I have never seen this before but it appeared to be from last turkey season. I was shocked that he was still able to let a gobble out. I ended up smoking the turkey legs on my Traeger grill and they turned out fantastic. I hope you are all getting out there and enjoying the outdoors on this Easter Sunday. Stay safe and godbless!

“I’m gonna let em marinate for a few hours ...... so it’s been about 3 days “😂😂👍🏻
There's something wrong with this bird.... prolly why he came in to my calling. Hahaha. Had me rollin!
You can't go wrong with the recipe that has a good amount of Critter glitter in it. Happy Easter Mullet Man and family! Hope y'all are being safe especially with a little one on the way. My family and I just love to watch your Channel. Please keep the hunting, gardening, and taking care of chicks and chickens videos coming. With love from Michigan!
I've never smoked them, but I've used a bake bag, and fried them. Both methods I inject them, and rub them with the remaining marinade. Let it sit for 2 days, and then cook. Fried to me is better, and pretty good. Baked is slightly tougher. A young jake is the best. Congrats!
Brining wild turkey for 12 hours is the best way to keep them juicy. I brine them overnight, and coat them in honey before smoking on a very low heat for 3 hours then cranking up the heat until the internal temperature reaches 165!
Heck yes mullet man on Easter Sunday love the videos man
Seen it 2 times and actually got 1 time on camera, mine were from bobcats getting them. It's called the craw where they crush the seed I think.
U done great video buddy u always do prayers to u and ur fàmily happy Easter God and Jesus be with u and ur kin ur friend Rob in the hills of Virginia keep the greatness coming hoss !!!!!!
You did awesome job filming it, when it comes to Turkeys you can't worry about trying get every film footage, they hear anything they are gone, in my smoker I use a small pan of water or Apple juice, really makes the meat moist! Have a wonderful Easter! God bless👍
I HAVE NEVER SMOKED A TURKEY LEG..I THINK I TRIED IT IN THE 70s BUT COULD NOT KEEP IT LIT ...LOL
JUST KIDDING...
GOD BLESS YOU AND THE WHOLE OWENS FAMILY
HOPE YA'LL HAVE A GLORIOUS EASTER
Happy Easter, Mullet Man and fam!
Awesome video man love turkey hunting
I love your videos I wanna be like you not gonna lie
Hey man. I know you have talked about Base Maps alot and I downloaded it recently. Yesterday I went turkey hunting on opening day here in NC to a new piece of land I just got permission on and I got turned around pretty bad chasing a turkey. I had to use Base Maps to get me back and if I didn't have it I would have been in trouble. Thanks for recommending for all of us to check out!
Awesome vedio! Man you make everything look so good! Stagmy safe!
Love county fair turkey legs, then, a nap.
I could see from the way you were continually munching on it that you truly did enjoy it.
Good job and happy Easter
Love your videos man keep it up! Going turkey hunting for the first time this Friday here in KY so hopefully I bag one🤞🏼
Love all your content bud. Keep up the good work. Learning a lot by watching you and applying it to my channel thank you. Dropped a new coyote hunting video this morning. More to come.
Great turkey hunt, great video, and Happy Easter to you and your family. : )
I’m out getting ready for my turkey hunt now! Hopefully we get some down
Love your vids man! Happy Easter
Pan fry nugget sized pieces in butter then at the last two minutes of cooking put some bbq sauce on. That’s my favorite way to cook turkey
Happy Easter mullet man
Mullet man I’ve been watching all your videos up here in Tennessee love your stuff man keep it going
The wings are awesome to!!
Here is a tip for turkey leg's and thigh's. I use a low pressure chicken fryer and pressure cook them in water till they fall off the bone. Then take the meat and chop the meat up small and add mayo and liquid smoke. Very delish. Everyone that has tried it was amazed how good it tasted. make sandwiches or just eat on crackers. Add anything you desire to it such as onion or celery for example. I like it just plain.
Great video as always, happy Easter to you and your family.
I know that this isn’t for turkey but when ever you do ribs on the smoker spray some apple cider vinegar on it about every 45 minutes. Me and my dad do this when we cook ribs and brisket. It is really good it gives it a lot of flavor
I like the whole bird, a lot of people don't eat the whole time thing but I always do. I like Steven rinella's way he cooked turkey with Joe Rogan in California.
What we usually do is put the legs and thighs in a big crockpot with Spanish rice add some water and sauce if your choice and let it cook on some low for 8 hours and the meat will fall off the bone by itself
Try brining your turkey next time to give it more moisture. Fully immerse the turkey for 1-3 days before smoking it, that's what Steve Rinella recommends. Happy Easter!
I love your vids
I coat the legs in salt, pepper and olive oil then brown both sides in a skillet. Then braise them in a pot for about 5 hours with crushed tomatoes, onions, carrots, fennel, sage, salt, pepper, chicken stock and red wine. It is very tender and delicious similar to pulled pork
Looks like his craw got torn by something. Happy Easter to you and your family.
I keep watching all these turkey videos and it sucks everyone else is killing birds and our season in Michigan hasn’t even started! Great vid keep up the good work!
YEEYEE Country what part of Michigan are you from?
Jose Ochoa Southern Michigan, Eaton
I just went out this morning and shot my first turkey
Either he got something sharp in his crop and it punched a hole that never healed or someone's shot tore a hole in the crop. Either way, he could not digest his food properly. So, you have actually done him and the rest out there a service as he would be getting sick and possibly spread diseases among the turkeys in that area.
You had a great time in the field. How is your wife and baby boy to be doing? How is your garden doing? Stay safe and a HAPPY EASTER from the Wilson Family in Gallatin,Tn.
Favorite UA-camr
Nice harvest mullet man 🤘🏾
He was either spurred by another male, or he escaped a bobcat attack since it was near his neck
Nice turkey
Looks like he get caught up in a barbwire fence. Still a good Bird brother good job
I think you missed an opportunity when you chose Critter Glitter Red. Could have done something like Critter Glitter Horn and Hoof to keep the alliteration like Fish and Fowl.
Try brining them in a simple sugar/salt brine for a day before doing your second marinade and it will help it stay more moist!
Good Easter brother!
Marinate it in a brine solution can make it more moist.
Mike Happy Easter to you and Angel and your Mom And Dad. Next year “mini mullet” will be born and hanging out with us. Lol
Give LFG a call. He had something wrong with one of his chickens that could be related to what's wrong with the Jake you shot.
He needs to go take care of LFG's little cat problem lol
Love you content keep it up!!
Hey mullet- love the channel, been following for a while now. Suggestion: instead of marinating, try injecting your turkey. Imparts way more flavor, and you can cook them on the same day you shot em. Additionally, clean your traeger before it burns your house down. I hate those things. Oh yeah, put some smoke on them legs, with a weber grill indirect heat, then use the Texas microwave(tin foewl) let them cook in their own juices instead turning them into baseball gloves.
Nice bird man ! 🤟🏽🦃
My guess would be that an eagle grabbed him or maybe a fox or bobcat and he got away with a torn up crop. I've seen it a few times with my chickens when they've been grabbed by an owl at night and dropped. I've sewed them up and they've recovered just fine.
Dude that looked so delicious!
Happy Easter mullet man.
Do you know why the Easter Bunny hides his eggs.
He didn't want anybody to know he was f****** a chicken LOL
Try marinating them in butter and garlic and olive oil then inject them with a jalapeno garlic and cilantro puree it's delicious on wild Turkey
Mullet Man is a national treasure
Soak them in buttermilk next time .. they will stay juicy through out the cook..down here in south Texas I have been seeing the ring tails snatching the turkeys out the trees while they roost.. or could be bobcat or just fighting with other toms... Eat Good!!!
I make turkey nuggets with the breast and I take everything the legs, back and breast bone and cook them in the instant pot for about 50 mins. Pull them out, debone it and make turkey salad sandwiches out of it! Delicious!!!
You are way braver than me, I wouldn't have eaten anything off that bird! 🤔🤢🤠
It took me way to long for me to find this comment lol
There should be one for every watch lol
I'm cooking legs right now. Onions and carrots in a crockpot with stock and let em go for 6 hours.
I've cooked a lot of turkey legs and pork chops which also dry out easy, what works best is to do a simple brine for at least 5 hours and up to a day. It's almost impossible to then make them dry, no spray or injection needed
Congratulations bo dingle
fish and wildlife would have issued you a new tag withought question...stay safe mullet man
I love turkey
Next time soak it in Italian dressing or a stout dark beer for 24 to 48 hours also next time put in a small amount of apple juice in the smoker as you do it will help keep it moist and really tender riser leg
Ill have to try this, I also wanna try the turkey jerky
The traeger has a meat probe take them to 165 they’ll be a lot more moist
Nice
I shot a turkey yesterday for my birthday and it had a 8 inch beard
Wow 😳
i shot one yesterday too just a jake but 60 yards
Jimmy Sapien yea
Josh Eubanks yea I had to tackle my turkey
I shot a turkey 4 days ago with a 10 inch beard it was my 2nd turkey ive ever killed in my whole life
nice tom
Jake, watch the video fully before trying to be 1st to comment. Jeez
Man In pa you would never get away with no mask lol
Right on man!!!
I put the turkey legs in the pressure cooker. Peel the meat off and then make turkey noodle soup with them or used the meat in homemade enchiladas. The pressure cooker in my experience keeps the meat moist and tender.
No way I would be eating that bird!
hard to believe you ate any thing from that bird.
Greg Harpo He killed it so he’s gonna eat it, it’s how he was raised
I know,bobcat food for sure,😷
Sick vid
I slow boil my wild turkey thighs and legs in chicken broth and with onions and celery for a few hours. Meat becomes so tender it literally falls of bones. I then use the meat pulled of the bones and tendons for turkey noodle stew, turkey dumplings, turkey carnitas or turkey pot pie
I would definitely say turn the heat down a little bit also inject them and also spray the turkey legs as well and that will be wonderful but when you do lower heat maybe 50° lower at 2:50 but you may have to cook them a little bit longer who knows but just try it out and find out.
225° until they reach an internal temp of 160, it takes about 4 to 6 hours. Wrap in foil and let rest for an hour, the best turkey leg you've ever had!
Boil em in a crockpot makes em tender a jake leg isnt really tough anyway 2year old and older is what's tough. pulled bbq brown sugar with rootbeer and hickory bbq 👍
How about an Insta pot
@@jimmysapien9961 dont know brotha never used one looks like probably so from what I just read about one
Super brother
I will film for you! LOL
Heck yeah bro just went turkey hunting here in south Texas but shot an axis deer instead 😂😂
Yo I just subbed to your channel
Toby Avery Ayy thanks bro that means a lot!
Gizerd
I put all my turkeys in an oven bag.......So tender
We're about to deep fry a Turkey I shot at 80yrds with my bowtech out here in Floresville TX.
Let's see you get one with a bow bud!!
Should've waited until he was inside 40 yards. That's bow range!! His shot with the shotgun was a better shot took more patients to let them get closer. But congrats.
Dam
I wish I could go on a hunt with mullet man he’s the man
Happy Easter mullet man you should do a catch clean cook on a gator
Damn down here in Canada we got big turkeys that’s a skinny turkey right there
I shot my bird in Wisconsin today at 12 I'm fricken pumped boys congrats though
The skin? You mean the skin you peeled off when taking the legs off of the bird? Lol!
Im thinking 1 of 2 things. Either bad shot with a bow or a fight and got cut. More than likely a bad shot with a bow. Thats why his beard was short
Thats possible yeah.
Shoulda soaked it in disinfectant to get that nasty infection off it all lol but happy Easter man !!
Went out yesterday saw a few never got a shot hogs got the place tore up man east Coleman county
Next time try a lower temp and longer cooking time, helps not dry out the meat as quick. Strong work man.
Atta boi
Mullet man!!!!! Would love to see you and deer meat for dinner make a hunting and fishing video together!!
