    The work I do with women veterans and service members, as well as those who are writing their way out of trauma, comes from the body. I've been exploring metaphor of mountains inside the woman since I came to study with you. It's not just changing my writing, it's rearranging my cells.

    Finally... writing wisdom that makes sense. Thanks, Lidia. You make me feel like less of an alien in the world. Looking forward to more of this!

    Thank you so much for this, I am looking forward to my cellular memories of a crazy, hazy and scattered life becoming the gift of art.

    Fantastic tip-off lecture on the corporeal writing journey, Lidia, and I'm delighted to be a contributor in this venture. At the moment, I'm typing this comment into a plain text document on Notepad, just to test the functionality of copy-paste into the UA-cam comments field for myself, as per Jane's experience.

    Thank you for making this online. I know you know my main metaphors, and I will drill into them relentlessly. You are what the world needs, Lidia.

    Thank you so much for sharing this light! I watched this before heading out, but will definitely examine and dig into my metaphors. This is such a great exercise for me! I teared up while watching. I am grateful for you, Lidia! :)

    I live and facilitate a method writing group of 30 students here on Maui. This is what a teach, a different way to approach writing. I also have recommended your books as an example of method writing. We are an experimental writing collective, an exploration into our art, our voice, coming from our experiences and our bodies. Thank you Lidia in being a role model for this. You rock my world. If you want please check out our stuff online. My site is called The Collective Underground. Thanks again and I plan to follow you and hope to hear you in person one day. Ivy Kaller

    Question: The metaphors I see in my work aren't nouns. I see myth, language, names. (Characters have multiple names and change names in all of my work.) Does that still work? Lydia's metaphors are water, the body. They are tangible. Will the exercise work if my metaphors are more conceptual?

    • @lidiamiles
      @lidiamiles 9 років тому +2

      +Aline Ohanesian OF COURSE!!! myth and language and names are sites of meaning making--places where meaning turns. myth and language are metaphors for me too. i have an essay up at Guernica called "Woven" that teases out myth/folktale as metaphor...xoxox

    Sounds fiery and loose, Lidia. Wrote, tried to paste here and can't.

      +Jane Eaton Hamilton Are you on a smart phone or tablet? If so, does copy-paste work from that device to the Web for you generally? I"m just trying to debug. Copy-paste from a text file worked for me fine, but I'm on a laptop.

    • @eatonhamilton8511
      @eatonhamilton8511 9 років тому

      +Mark Vanderpool A laptop here. Sorry, but I use my phone very infrequently, so I don't know the answer.

      +Jane Eaton Hamilton I'm taking my best shot at debugging this without seeing your screen or sitting at your computer. Somtimes that requires several steps. We know the public comments field let's you type something in directly, so it's odd if you can't paste to it. Make sure that your cursor is flashing in the field just like you're about to type something, but try pasting again instead. Is it possible to paste anything at all -- even something brief? If not, you may want to try a different web browser or download the latest upgrade for the one you're using. I recommend Google's Chrome if you aren't using it already. Lots of pesky interface problems come down to something like running a six-year-old version of Internet Explorer.

      +Jane Eaton Hamilton Mark, it seems to be length related. I managed with something shorter. Is there an alternate site where we can post longer pieces?

      +Kelly J Thompson Turns out UA-cam got difficult about video replies in comments thread, just about a year ago. The new plan is to post them on the Facebook events page. Can't wait to see yours! XOXO

    Bravo, Lid. You could read the dictionary and I would come out the other side rearranged.

      +Andrea Taylor that could be arranged.
