In This video, we discuss the role, function, and powers of the House of Lords.
The House of Lords is the second or upper chamber of the British Parliament.
Historically it is the oldest legislative chamber of the world.
Its membership is not fixed. It is a permanent house which is never dissolved.
Its members are not elected directly by the people, they are appointed by the King/Queen.
Members come from many walks of life and bring experience and knowledge from a wide range of occupations. Many Members remain active in their fields and have successful careers in business, culture, science, sports, academia, health, politics and public service.
It is generally stated that the house of lords is a hereditary house.

Sir u mentioned in your lecture that women can't participate in house of lord. ....but .... 24 july 2023 there was a youngest member made member of house of Lords .... Can u please clarify this kindly sir

Historically, women were not allowed to be members of the House of Lords in the UK. This changed with the passage of the Life Peerages Act 1958, which allowed women to be appointed as life peers, giving them the right to sit in the House of Lords.
I should have updated it. I used my old css Notes that I made from an Indian writer.
