Jig Thursday - Gallagher's Frolics (E Min)

This was our "Jig Thursday" selection from February 22, 2024. O'Gallagher's Frolics appeared in the Mammoth Collection that fellow Boston resident William Bradbury Ryan put out in 1883. We learned it in sessions--and our version is pretty close to the old Ryan setting. Francis O'Neill thought it was similar to the jig Buried My Wife and Danced on Her Grave, but we're missing that connection. Either way... and no matter how you say Gallagher... it's a strong and enduring melody.

We started this 'series' on a diff social media platform. We wanted to share a few of our favorite tunes, and record them in a minute (so we could share the whole thing). It's such a small little project. But it's been fun to blast through a few of our very favorite jigs. We're putting the vids up on YT, for folks who want an easier way to search for titles.

Thank you for checking it out. You raise a good point, and you're totally right! These are wicked lo-fi recordings, just simple phone videos we shot for Instagram/Facebook... Definitely going for the quick share without having to set up mikes. Just something quick and live. Agreed that close miking would change the experience.
