"Such an electrifying atmosphere at the Stormers vs Leinster rugby game tonight at Cape Town Stadium! 🏉 Was awesome to witness the clash live. Met some fantastic Leinster supporters - seriously, what a passionate bunch! Had some insightful discussions and we agreed that supporting our teams overseas often comes down to factors like currency exchange rates and the state of our countries. Rugby truly unites us all! 💪 #RugbyFanatics #StormersVsLeinster #CapeTownStadium"

Had a chat with a dude from Dublin at the end of the game in cape town about the weakened team that they sent down to SA and i genuinely belive that the media and pundits are the ones who feel the most disrespected and make the most noise about the Bulls issue... the fans(especially the traveling fans from up north) understand the brutal schedule for these boys... they fully understand why you'd prioritise some games or competitions over others...either way, great bunch of fans that took a 17h flight down on Friday just to leave back home tomorrow...the dedication is real👏🏽

A Quins fan at the Quins game here, and have to say I was over the moon with how we played in the 30 minutes we had 14 men. So happy to see Northmore score tries, Will Porter thriving and Smith/Evans giving great continuity. The show n go from Evans for Porters second was just a thing of beauty. Sets us really well for a tough match this week.
All credit to Saints though, because they’re a bloody good rugby team and I wish them all the best at Croke Park. Love to see an all English Europe final.

Totally agree about the accuracy issue for northampton.
1 aspect you didn't mention Tim was that Porter replaced Care straight away and has a massive influence on the rest of the game. He'd likely come on for someone else if care had been red carded, but saints take the lead almost immediately after the incident.
The other thing is the absolute embarrassment of the pundetry afterwards.

@EggchasersRugby on Dickson as well, I don't think he "sees his mate Care and wants to protect his mate because he's a secret quins fan" or any nonsense like that. I think he remembers Cares already on a yellow and thinks what he's been told all season: "Reds Ruin games."
Cares yellow was one of the "letter of the law, head contact, low degree of danger" yellows that everyone hates.
The poor state of the game is making refs look ridiculous.

    • @bolton121
      @bolton121 Місяць тому

@AlfredTheGreatestEver yes this all over. I'm a Quins fan and I think if the roles had been reversed and it had been Mitchell instead of Care that had got a yellow for hit on a big forward and then done the same thing Danny did then the same decision gets made. On its own the incident is a yellow all day long

    • @quofatavocant

Congrats to both ENG & FRA Women who both put on a very entertaining show (shame about the red card) in Bordeaux's packed out 28K Stadium, but there needs to be more investment in the Women's Game to help bring more teams up to the level of ENG's Full Time Professionals to really grow it! What a game between Quins/Saints & Tigers/Bristol! Fear for Quins defence vs TLS!

    • @EggchasersRugby
      @EggchasersRugby  Місяць тому +9

Not sure I agree about investment. I think the sport should grow organically, and be sustainable. When audiences grow, £ spent can grow. (it's not as if rugby is awash with cash). But agree England completely skew the picture because they have had mega money spent on them, not in this organic fashion. Good for them...but not for game overall, in terms of competitiveness.

Interesting weekend of games and incidents. was unaware of the "Harlequins Ref", history but was most surprised that a second yellow card was not issued as that was deserved. The attempts to explain it away made it look even worse. There were many Ref inconsistencies across games - with offsides and 5 second rules not being policed, not to mention very obvious forward passes. The Saracens try just before half time was preceded by the Ref calling use it at a maul and then allowing any extraordinary amount of time to pass (certainly more than 5 seconds), and unfortunately in this time Bath had thrown more bodies into the mix obviously hoping for a turnover and were caught short handed. Consistent off sides at set pieces and breakdowns is also slowing the game down as it eliminates space to attack. How often when teams are trying multiple times to get over the try line at mauls, and they go to the TMO to check grounding do you see numerous opponents standing in an off side position, but this is not penalised. In many cases had they been on sides the try would have had a greater chance of being scored.
The Glorification of Farrell by all - commentators included is also irritating. Superlative adjectives come out everytime he touches the ball, but far greater efforts by lesser mortals barely get a mention.
Game of the weekend Blues vs Reds in Super.

    Was an odd decision.
Otherwise it was a good game but defences were definitely second best.
Marcus Smith won the battle of the 10s for me. But these two young men should be trusted to move the national team forward, with thanks to Ford and Farrell for all the years of service.

That was a decent side. The problem is less games now means they have less game time together. With 19 Leinster players going into Ireland camp they need a huge squad to cover international duties, but less game time these days. If that team had more game time they’d be competitive in URC. Go through the team again and look at the quality. I can understand other team supporters having a go but for Leinster supporters to disrespect Leinster players is poor form in my books.

Leinster could afford to send the subs because they have a run in that looks very doable in the last three games. Glasgow have to travel to South Africa for two of their three. Leinster have 2 home against Ospreys and Connacht and their away game is up the road in Ulster.

The difference for Leinster is they trying to win both competitions. All of the other URC teams can fully concentrate on getting the best position for the URC knockouts whilst using their best available players. Leinster have two home games and an away game to Ulster left on their remaining fixture before the knockouts. Glasgow have to play the Lions and the Bulls at altitude. I still think Leinster will finish top of the log and will secure home advantage for the knockouts. If we don't win any trophies this year we will deserve any criticism that comes our way but if we win the double it will be seen as an act of masterful squad management.

The referee in the Quins/Saints game should receive the highest level of professional censure possible for that decision regarding Danny Care. Your perception is correct. He visibly changed his mind about penalising this most cynical of plays, when he realised it would be a second yellow for Care. Brazen 'howlers' like this just open the floodgates to referee abuse from coaches and spectators alike. 'Howler' is being kind - a howler is just a bad call - this was a deliberate reengineering of what was there for everyone to see.

The comparison was between 2 teams playing in SA one week and in Europe the next. I understand ANY team who changes their squad for that. 2 games in less than a week and travelling is brutal (especially when, unlike Munster, there aren't rest weekends around it either). Clearly EPCR think so too as they've said they want to avoid back to back knockout games in future. Season schedule needs some work

Leinster may well be banking on Glasgow losing at least once in SA and getting back on top with 3 winable games back home, it has to be said that the strenght in dept of the Leinster front row is very very questionable, Alaaltoa leaks penalties every time he gets on!

Leinster fielding a weakened team in the URC is worse than the champions cup as it has has huge implications for all the teams trying to make the last 8. Like Connacht, they face full strength Leinster who no one can beat, and get no points, yet, Leinster play second team against the stormers, who Connacht and others are battling for top 8 finish.

URC refereeing has got to be the worst of any competition in the world. It actually spoils the games and competition.
On the couch since Thursday due to medical recovery, I watched most of the SuperRugby matches this weekend as well as the URC matches .. and all it did was highlight just how shocking the URC officials are.

Its kind of weird Leinster sent out a weakened team to SA again after it backfired so badly last year.
If they fluff it and win nothing there will be questions.
Glasgow are away in SA for the next 2 games so despite being a supporter i doubt we stay ahead of Leinster/Bulls. Finish at home to Zebre though.
Munsters run in is nice, i can see them winning it again. Stormers form is good but they might have left it too late and gave to ot the hard way. The shootout for the last 3 top 8 spots will go to the wire.

I’d love to see the number of minutes played this season for those Leinster players, compared to previous years third string .
It feels like since SA teams joined and no games during international windows, Leinster don’t have the time to give to up and coming players like they used to.

leinster are sure a shite is brown and smelly putting all their eggs in the WIN THE CHAMPIONS CUP basket.
It's clear as day. Leinster are not trying to do a double. which is what scuppered them over the last few year.
Now its all about that 5th star.

Bulls and Leinster fielding weakened teams are completely different! A knock-out game in the biggest competition V a regular game in the domestic competition having already qualified for the playoffs.

Not sure on the Bristol hype just yet. Results have been great but playing relentlessly from their 22 shouldn’t have worked given they made so many errors that went unpunished. Bristol don’t seem to have a plan B interested to see how they go against Saracens. Tigers capitulation was alarming, seem to be lacking ideas on the pitch and depth from the bench. Pollard has been a flop… so deep and poor kick choice… seems disinterested.

Leinster are still in the URC that’s the difference they respect all competitions. One day world rugby will have the good sense to hold a World Cup in Ireland and the will see just how much the Irish care about rugby and sport.
