You said your Japanese is self taught in the desc. How long did it take for you to learn because I'm starting to learn as well(self taught) and I'm interested to know how long it might take.

Hmm, well... Passively learning, from anime, movie and stuff, I would say, 10 years... and actively learning, for the Kana, Kanji, and grammars, a little more than a year, I think. The passive learning really helps builds up my vocab so, yeah... An advice I can give is to actually learn the Kana first so you can get an idea how a word is actually spelt and pronounce, helps a lot in trying to understand the word itself.
