I watched the old anime Ranma 1/2 before the remake. Overall it was decent, I especially liked the new opening (but still prefer the old one), and overall the action production is better for me than before.
All right!! Let's gooooo!!! 😂 First of all let me be the 1000th person to say you're thinking of Happosai. In the original Anime I believe there was a "Please Knock" sign. For the remake they made a few changes to ensure that Akane would walk in on Ranma by accident. Nabiki and Kasumi directed Akane and Ranma separately that the bath was available, and did not check with each other first. And Akane does NOT notice Ranma's clothes in the hamper as she did in the original. She probably thought she had the bath to herself. In the eecind case, Ranma was probably about to walk in on Alane without checking if she was in there first, but Akane opened the divider first. Ranma might have hesitated to open the divider because he suddenly realized Akane might be there, but it was too late. I prefer the original version from the 80's though. In Japan, it actually isn't considered unusual for people of the same sex to bathe together. In particular, Akane and her sisters would often bathe together. Look how big that tub is! So when Akane went to intentionally bathe with Ranma, she was symbolically welcoming Ranma into her family. Everyone else might have been disappointed that Tanma wax apparently a girl, But Akane was reaching out to someone she thought was like her. By removing the hints that it wasn't an accident, they make it more relatable to Western audiences. But the Japanese audience will pick up on the cultural subtext. I'm glad to see you watching this. I can't wait for the next episode. I'm referring to Ranma as "him" since that's what feels he is. I'll also note that par this point, Akane also refers to Ranma as "him" no matter what form he is in.
This was the first Manga I read as a kid. I remember shopping at Suncoast videos for the anime. That fact that Mappa is doing this is such a treat. This thing was progressive before progressive. Love it.
You're right. Regardless of his condition, Ranma is definitely a boy, since he identifies himself as a boy, since he was born and continues to live as a boy. The thing with cold water turning him as a girl is just an unusual curse/condition, even if it's funny.
This will be a riot on Twitter as some people will force their idea and make Ranma what they want to believe (Ranma himself hated this curse so much to begin with)
While I'm excited for the show, I'm even more excited for my next anime convention. Cause while I love anime, I'm more of a comfort rewatcher then seeking out new anime. So its starting to come to a point where I'm not recognizing a lot of the art work that fans are making, so next year hopefully I'll see more Ranma 1/2 that I can buy
Ranma 1/2, is a must-see classic. I remember that in France, there was a TV channel called Manga. It’s thanks to this that I got to know great animated classics of my big sister generation, Yū Yū Hakusho, Dragon Ball, Hunter x Hunter and of course Ranma1/2. Ranma isn't trans, he identifies as male
I think it is wrong to say that Ranma is more popular in Spanish-speaking countries than in Japan. It is so popular in Japan that there is not a single Japanese person today, young or old, male or female, who does not know it.
Mappa really keeping everyone exception with the remake happy they are not providing unecessary censorship also the image of Female Ranma at13:35 imagined by Akane is the most crack moment I have ever seen. Really enjoying this remake
In the 1990s, it was the most popular manga and anime among fans in America. Viz Media is the biggest manga publisher here, and their first big success was Ranma in 1992. If you look at archives of fanfic written back then, posted to places like the Usenet group rec.arts.anime.creative, about 30% of it was Ranma stories - it was the series everyone knew about. Lots of people wrote fanfic for it even if they hadn’t actually read the manga or seen the anime. I know people who were in those communities back then; they can tell you stories about all the arguments people would have about things like which girl would be best for Ranma. Inuyasha was also popular when it came out here, but by then anime and manga were much more popular - lots of kids were watching Pokémon, Dragon Ball Z, Yu-Gi-Oh!, and so on. By that time, Cartoon Network had even aired shows like Tenchi Muyo, Cowboy Bebop, Outlaw Star, and Gundam Wing. So Inuyasha didn’t dominate fandom in the same way.
Baldy is just a common (rude) way to refer to old people, whether they're actually bald or not Honestly I think Ranma was in his right to roast Akane that way given her accusation of him being a perv and still treating him as being in the wrong. He even apologised before, that's more than she did XD It's like alright, I tried to be peaceful but you're choosing violence, so the kid gloves are coming off
Sadly Ranma became as many fans feared "censored". It was never a "corn" thing but what people call these days Ecchi. For my feeling it was always part of the whole Ranma being cursed. Now a big part is taken away. I hope the fun part won't go down so much. But for me as a german I am happy most voice actors from the OG show came back. except Male Ranma he died. That's why the rest never got translated.
What do you feel was "censored" in the 1st episode? It's almost a scene for scene re-creation of the 1st episode from the original version back in 87. ( I was curious, so I re-watched the old episode right after watching the new Netflix version). Or are you referencing the fact that the 87 version has discernible nipples in the bath scenes when there is no other obstruction in the way?
@@iandriscoll8407 I do watch the german version. There are some chaanges in the words they use. (Thats not on the creator) But they changed the nippel parts. Made the towel with Akane bigger. Changed the way both stood when they met the second time. Original the view was from the side on both of them. And you could see them. Then Ranma's missing butt "crack" see has now basically one big ass cheek. Instead of two. Then when see was shown no nippel there. Which is weird. Same goes when Ranma falls into the cursed pit. And checks the chest. It is clear that some changes always happen but nippel? Like do women not have nippel anymore. And it was one of the important things back then. :D
I agree, and it is a big shame that they decided to censor some scenes. Beyond censorship, I am afraid that some scenes will be completely removed or changed because there is too much political correctness these days. Some scenes are already slightly changed in the 1st episode. In addition, I have concerns about the color palette. For me, it is too candy-like.
@@Hawsk I don't care about politics or anything like that. Sometimes people where stupid and said stupid things. That change is good. But Nippels are Nippels and they are a part of the male and female body.
The animation is great. They recreated a lot of the original panels from the manga. My only concern is if the comedic delivery will be as good as the original anime, good part of it I think is the background music. The og anime It had so many iconic themes that would define the silly and serious moments in each episode. The music , at least in this first episode is good but not memorable.
In the Middle East this show was sooooo censored they changed the whole plot basically to make it suitable on a kids channel AND WATCHING THIS AS AN ADULT SHOCKED MEEE (it’s good tho lol) + I came from ur kdrama channel 🤍🤍
Im going to love watching this with you! Question for the chat, Does anyone know how far this remake is going to go? The original had over 100 episodes.
Just wait this is just the beginning of a whole bunch crazy Anything- Goes shenanigans. Edit: And don't about calling Ranma a boy OG fans are already use to it
The pond curse is specifically about a girl so it's not just gender change, he will change into a young girl forever even if he's 50, even women can get cursed like this.
I will not watch this in english dub. Because I'm scared of them making this classic into something it isn't. Im so glad they remade this this brings back so much memories. you're going to have a blast with the hijinx!
I literally was so let down watching this, I feel like I love it so much but it will never compare to the original for me. I posted a reaction video as well... I'm still contemplating my existence.
As an OG Ranma fan I had a mix feelings about this. Don't get me wrong I love the story. Not so sure about the stylish changes. I kind of prefer the old version ovet this.
Rumiko Takahashi would say he always identifies as a man but they act more genderfluid. The old anime Def has some episodes that read like Ranma's maybe acting like more of a man than she actually is.
IDs as a man, acts female when it's funny, and constantly over-compensates for his masculinity. That's why he hates that Akane rejects him, because as a 80s man, NO girl is supposed to make him feel "less." He eventually becomes slightly less toxic, but he's a product of his times. I'd be interested to see how "PC woke" Mappa makes this series, or if the radfems cancels this all to hell. Either way, I'm bringing popcorn. 🤣
Extenuating circumstances aside, Ranma does always identify as a guy. Interestingly, Akane sometimes uses 'she' when referring to him in his female form. I go with what Ranma himself uses.
You know, I always remembered Ranma as kind of a dick, but I gotta say, I feel like in this first episode, Akane was really out of line, the guy was literally doing his best until she walked into him bathing and then got called a pervert for it, even after the situation was explained to her. Akane shot first.

In the Middle East this show was sooooo censored they changed the whole plot basically to make it suitable on a kids channel AND WATCHING THIS AS AN ADULT SHOCKED MEEE (it’s good tho lol) + I came from ur kdrama channel 🤍🤍
Ranma is still himself even when he transform into girl
"Baldy" is a common insult in manga, no idea why.
Im going to love watching this with you!
Question for the chat, Does anyone know how far this remake is going to go? The original had over 100 episodes.
Waiting for Great Grand Master Happosai the great 🗿🔥
Love that fool Happy, but I'm more about the Queen of the Chinese Amazons Cologne.
@@dilyan_picollo 🗿oh
I missed this show so much
Just wait this is just the beginning of a whole bunch crazy Anything- Goes shenanigans.
Edit: And don't about calling Ranma a boy OG fans are already use to it
Definitely want to see more reactions of my favourite anime ❤
The pond curse is specifically about a girl so it's not just gender change, he will change into a young girl forever even if he's 50, even women can get cursed like this.
I loved the original and I'm sure I'll love this one too
Ranma !!!❤ How much I missed this anime so much are unimaginable....The last time I watch it was during animax prime day...
I will not watch this in english dub. Because I'm scared of them making this classic into something it isn't. Im so glad they remade this this brings back so much memories. you're going to have a blast with the hijinx!
RANMAAAA ❤❤❤❤
Love it just like I'd did in the past.
Love ranma 😂
I literally was so let down watching this, I feel like I love it so much but it will never compare to the original for me. I posted a reaction video as well... I'm still contemplating my existence.
and I've been a TRUE ranma fan for a little less than 20 years!!! I know it's not fair to judge until I see the rest of the series.
Pity you missed out on the original VHS from Suncoast video.
Or watching the original on Japanese TV in 1992.
I'm waiting for a small grandpa 😅
later on in the original anime Ranma is the male form, Ranma-Chan is the female form
You're right Ranma is "he". He always screams "I'm a man"
"I'm better built to boot"
big fan of the original show
I hope you react to all the episodes, I'll be here to watch!
As an OG Ranma fan I had a mix feelings about this. Don't get me wrong I love the story. Not so sure about the stylish changes. I kind of prefer the old version ovet this.
The original had AMAZING fight choreography too. If MAPPA doesn't deliver, then it would be one hell of a disappointment
Rumiko Takahashi would say he always identifies as a man but they act more genderfluid. The old anime Def has some episodes that read like Ranma's maybe acting like more of a man than she actually is.
Anyway assign gender how u see it I ain't ur mom and ranma isn't real.
1:58 Grandpa? Where’d you get grandpa from?😅
Man I really don't like censorship
Extenuating circumstances aside, Ranma does always identify as a guy. Interestingly, Akane sometimes uses 'she' when referring to him in his female form. I go with what Ranma himself uses.
I liked it a lot more than Urusei Yatsura the jokes in that anime didn't hit and felt very old
Why is the caption Japanese when the settings says English? 😅
cause we don't have option for different version of AI translation.
主要メンバーがみんな名探偵コナンの声優をずっと現役でやってるんですが、なぜワンピースや有名どころの作品で仕事している声優さんのイメージなんですか😂
cause I watch 10-15 eps of OP every week. so I jump when I heard Usopp and Brook.
is 15k in two days enough for an episode 2?
Yes, We Will post ep 2
13:18 thats a child??
The thought of begging annoys me, but for the people doing the remake, please please do not screw up Tatewaki Kuno.
Definitely Would
You know, I always remembered Ranma as kind of a dick, but I gotta say, I feel like in this first episode, Akane was really out of line, the guy was literally doing his best until she walked into him bathing and then got called a pervert for it, even after the situation was explained to her. Akane shot first.
Is it on crunchy yet?
