  • Everyone knows how important a healthy root system for a plant is. But do you actually know how to achieve this, how you can recognise healthy roots and what happens if you give too little, too much or water in an inconsistent way?

I have a question I have never seen addressed. If you have two pots that are the same liter size but one is rather short with a large circumference and the other is taller but more narrow in circumference which would develop the better root system?

I'd say this would depend on saturation, and soils uptake, if you can combine the 2 you may find your anwser, but if you have rooting powder spread throughout they should be equally heathy

When you check for moisture. Do you check the top then middle then bottom?
And do you check the center or the outer rim of the pot when checking.
Or just stick it in and read the meter.

Few centimeters deep into the soil. That way you know not only the top layer's moisture content

From my personal exp I check the bottrm then top if both are slightly moist I'll go and water but if the bitten is dry but the top is damp I'll leave it, all depends on what you are using at the time, I like using rockwool in the bitten of my soil pots as its so much cleaner when it comes to transplanting mothers

What has more to do with flavor.
Large full roots or full foilage.
I had this pop to me transplanting sprouts yesterday.
I pulled out some that had large leaves with a small root system and huge roots with small foilage.
    I know both matter.
But wondering if taste comes from a larger dose of mineral uptake from the roots.
And yes leaves pump the warmth for root growth and pressure for helping with exasperation of H2O through the leaves which expands them if the right pressure is maintained while supplying the hydration and minerals.
My guess is roots and sunshine being carrots taste good being a root and all.
I'm going to keep track of this plant this summer and compare it to the other like plants when comparing taste.
Or have a chart designating taste between all plants and when digging them up next fall compare the roots to the taste chart.

This somtimes is the case of bigger root better veg but with some fruits and veg the flavor comes with age not root system

What is the ph of the soil once you add lime to it?

    • @omarbaassiri8689
      @omarbaassiri8689 6 років тому +2

above 7. usually 8. 8.5 if you add too much. Do not apply lime if you live somewhere with calcareous soils. If you live in the USA, chances are your soils are sodic and need lime on a regular basis. This is especially true if you get alot of rain, much more necessary if your rain is acid rain.

less the ph, the lesser the acidic right. So lime should decrease the ph
