I had my surgery in April to remove a very small tumor. Then 12 rounds of chemo. No side effects. I was HR2+ and am getting ready to start a targeted series. So far no talk about radiation. Am very happy with everything I have been through.
Hi My sister has undergone 3 lumpectomies and is undergoing her chemo treatment. She has 5 cycles of chemo at 40% strength but we are terrified of the side effects for the next 4. (she has completed 1 cycle so far) Can you shed some light on your experience please
Very informative....I am a breast cancer survivor and for 2 years now I have been cancer free and I thank God every day for keeping me alive...I took 4 chemo...then had a double mastectomy an then had 4 more radiation....because it did not spread to my lymph nodes and the test came back negative I my doctor said radiation wasn't necessary....I pray everyday for keeping me alive and I also pray for everyone that is going through breast cancer an every type of cancer.....cancer really plays with your mind an it is something without support it is very hard....blessings to everyone...
I was diagnosed with breast cancer and all your lessons Dr were very informative. In this two weeks i have gained such allot of knowledge from your lessons. By the time i had my appointment with Professor Apffelstaedt and Oncologist Dr Pienaar to discuss my cancer treatment plan, I had a better understanding what i could expect and it also gave me confidence as i had a relatively good understanding of my diagnosis. It also allowed me ask my Drs questions. Me being diagnosed with breast cancer give me the opportunity to learn more about cancer, because for me this is not always about a fight and survival, but also an opportunity to gain knowledge around the deceased called breast cancer and how to managed it better in its different areas of your life. Thank you so much Dr.
As an 89 year old in good general health with a clear brain, can I have a lumpectomy with no radiation on th grounds that my life expectancy is pretty ahort anyway?! I prefer quality of life to quantity! Endless trips to and from a hospital not nearby is not quality of life for me, and only worth it if I were young.
Talk with your oncologist. Depending on your individual cancer ( size, type, etc), and other things (oncotype score, etc), along with your age and quality of life question, it may be possible to opt out of radiation.
Thank you for the feedback. Make sure you visit the complete Breast Cancer School for Patients. Same video lessons, but organized in the order of topics you will experience them. www.breastcancercourse.org/

Hello dr Ihave a question I’m cancer survivor I had breast cancer stage 3 I took chemo ,mastectomy then radtion. My question why they gave me radtion if there is no breast and they removed all the lemph nodes in the effected area . So how cancer will recurrence in the same area after mastectomy . The bad things no one talk about the side effects of radtion . It’s worst than chemo. And if the cancer can recurrence why cancer patients take radtion . The side effects is the worst there is no any benefit of radtion. I regretted that I took radtion

Does Kadcyla treatment (14 IV infusions, every 3 weeks) after having a total mastectomy would help to avoid having radiation treatment? Previous to the mastectomy, there was 6 sessions of chemotherapy also.
I’m 38 yrs old diagnosed with triple negative stage 3 grade 3 IDC neoadjuvant chemotherapy and I’m only half way through chemo and my tumor is gone! Will I still need radiation if my tumor is shrunk that much to not feel it anymore? I will be having a bilateral mastectomy because I’m BRCA2 also. Idk if I want radiation because they said I can have implants if I have radiation..
I would also like to know.. You and I have the same diagnosis. I finish my Chemo Tuesday and then surgery. My Chemo and Letrozole shrunk my breast tumor and axillary lymph node tumors (only had 2) So I am also curious

Very helpful although I found your video(s) only after day 1 of 5 brachytherapy radiation for my stage 0, grade 3, pea size mass. I am surprised that radiation is used for a stage 0/non invasive, small cancer. I had 5 mm clear margins with lumpectomy. I am 67 and otherwise very healthy. The MDs at the hospital I'm using said the grade 3 is why I'm receiving radiation. I have declined the hormone blocker (AI) med although my pathology revealed E/P positive.

So Radiation is not required when the size of the tumor is less than 2 CM. And no lymph node involvement and Mastectomy has been done.
