This video was a lifesaver yesterday. I had neglected to test my Apollo Twin on zoom before I used it for an event, and was horrified by the distorted gurgly sound I was getting. I figured it out thanks to you. Although, I kept having system overload problems and feedback glitches that I couldn't get rid of.

If a interface like my zoom H6 recorder says 6 in 2 out, does that mean my hardware will automatically feed zoom software a clean stereo signal, not the typical mushy mono output you were referring to. If so do I still need a virtual router to make a clean stereo. If I use the zoom H6 as a multitrack, then I’m sure I would need a virtual router to make stereo. I use the stereo mix option on my zoom H6 so I think I don’t need that step for now, but I am shopping for pc plug-ins for my Cubase to digital mixing on the pc instead of the H6. Thanks great video, very helpful.

Hey Tano, my non-techie neighbor is trying to do a meditation Webcast on Zoom with a 3DIO Binaural mic. To get the audio into her MAC, she’s going into a Focusrite Scarlet 2i2 USB interface. We changed all her ZOOM settings according to your instructions. We changed her Zoom profile setting to “Allow users to select stereo audio in their client settings”. She also changed all the required settings in her Zoom app. I assume that since the scarlet 2i2 only has two XLR jacks, it would only have two outputs going to the Mac through USB, so it shouldn’t have to go through any virtual audio device like Blackhole. We tested it out, by having her invite me to a zoom meeting. I excepted her invitation in two places, my Mac and my iPhone. I made sure that I clicked the button that enables “ original sound for musicians”. Everything I heard, was coming through both sides of my headphones in other words, mono. She was monitoring the audio on her scarlet 2i2 and said that she could hear it on the left and right sides when she whispered into the left and right ears of the microphone. Any idea which step I am missing on the receiving end or somethings she might be doing on the sending end?

THIS!! Was very helpful. Zoom was driving me nuts!! I resorted to using a completely different computer with a completely different audio interface. I used my performing computer/audio interface and sent an output to the completely different audio interface/mixer. Then I connected that to a completely different computer to run the actual Zoom meeting/performance. This is the only way I could get the sound I was hearing instead of the horrible sound of trying to use one computer to do the performance and the zoom session on the same machine using the same audio interface. You just solved the mystery for me I had been troubleshooting for over a YEAR!!!! Thank you! The blackhole virtual audio program will essentially replace the separate system I had been using. Thank you again. I'm so glad I found your video. It was the missing piece!

Hey Tano. Great video! I have an Apollo Twin Duo. If I want to run a bass, a vocal mic and a backing track, am I correct in assuming that you can run the backing track from your computer since you are routing system sound through the console and run the bass to one input channel and the mic to the other input channel thereby eliminating the need for an external mixer before the Apollo? Thank you (in advance).

Hey! Great video. If I can ask please, how do I receive sound from a person speaking on a multi person zoom meeting, through logic?. So, i just want to hear the one specific person leading the meeting, route that through logic, then send out to all on meeting. But i wont be in same room as the person leading. I will be elsewhere with my laptop, monitoring sound and sending out to all. Thete will also be a music track i need to mix. So will just be 2 tracks I receive through zoom, then through Logic then back out through zoom to all.

  • @bassinnovaofficial

Hey Tano, so I had followed your earlier video and created an Aggregate Device with my Scarlett and Soundflower 2ch. Was able to set up a mix inside Logic where all tracks go to stereo out (1+2) i.e. Soundflower and use a Bus to Monitor (3+4) Scarlett. Output of Logic is Aggregate Device. In Zoom, I can select either Aggregate Device or Soundflower 2Ch, and with all the settings ON as mentioned in this video, I still only get Mono audio. So is it that this only works with a console?...Cause doing it within Logic with an Aggregate Device still doesn't seem to work for me. Also I would like the flexibility of the Tracks in the DAW vs a console. Please let me know what Im doing wrong. Thanks :)

    • @TanoBrock

@@TanoBrock Hi Tano, thank you very much for your reply. So the funny problem that I seemed to have missed, turned out to be that in Zoom, 'Original Sound: Off' was doing more than just compression and background noise clean up, it ALSO makes the audio Mono! The moment I switch that to 'Original Sound: On' it becomes stereo, along with all the settings you mentioned. Simple, but easy to miss. Thank you again!

FANTASTIC thanks! Now I know why I was getting distortion. It sums it all up including the monitors hey. I've got Loopback for Zoom monitoring.. I'll set it up for input as well. Hey so do all participants need to select stereo audio or is that selected automatically by my master settings? Also.. how do you shut off the "gating"? I did a zoom concert and while listening to the playback recording that every time a participant talked.. it stopped the music. And vice versa while I'm playing I can't hear them talking. Can "FULL DUPLEX" be achieved?

Because my RME FireFace800 audio interface allows me to "Loopback" all its outputs back into a stereo input. So I guess that would allow me to directly select my interface in Zoom with high quality stereo audio without the need to use Black Hole, Loopback or Logic. How can I check to make sure?

This is extremely informative, thank you. I have a slightly different setup and I'd love to get your feedback: I am using an ATEM Mini Pro video switcher to do live edits between four cameras and Livestream into Zoom, using Logic Pro through a Saffire PRO 40 for audio. I have a PC running the Zoom meeting and a Mac running Logic. If I send a stereo out from my Logic into the Atem, and then use the ATEM as my audio device in Zoom, will I avoid the Zoom summing audio issue you mentioned? Thanks again for a great video.

Great advice man! I have one question for you or anyone in the comments. I route it through zoom but when I am playing the backing track through my DAW my students can't hear what I am playing on saxophone. only the backing track will be heard.. Suggestions are welcomed.

An issue I'm having is getting the signal loud enough on the receiving end of the call. I'm sending a strong signal to blackhole but at max volume on the receiving end of the call it's only a moderate volume.. not sure why this is.

Hi Tano Great Video.... I was struggling to get stereo sound on zoom. I have exactly routed as per your video but still I am getting mono sound.. I am Using RME FF800 routed to Nuendo 11 to Virtual output A to Zoom IN with all usual settings for stereo sound.... What I am doing wrong?

Will this allow me to play drums through zoom and get my mixed Logic sound? I would ideally run DAW > logic > Zoom so that the participants would hear the finished mix. Thank you.

I think the same idea applies! You have to use some sort of virtual audio device that can give zoom a 2 channel stereo signal. Voicemeeter Banana is one :)

I am singing on Zoom via Samsung cell phone; How do I optimize the sound for voice and CD player?

  • @sangkong9738

Thanks. I was wondering why it wouldn't go out in stereo no matter what I did. I also noticed that Zoom would ignore my UA Mute settings, so if I muted my vocal channel in the Apollo, it would still register Zoom. I got around that using Loopback, but I was using 6 outputs in Loopback and I guess it must have been summing that to mono, cause I could n ever get it to send stereo. Thanks for solving that befuddling problem.

BTW. I have a DAW too, but to reduce the 20 ms of latency or so, I decided to go this route. I didn't want my DAW running in the background either. I already have enough stuff running. The only thing I wish I could do with Loopback is to be able to add a Limiter plug-in before outputing it. Soundsource let's you do that, but I haven't quite figured out how to use them together.
