General Printer Error fix on HP Officejet 6500A and 6500 Printer

  • HP printers often give an error code which is different everytime. For example it can be same issue, but can have an error code 0x60000xxxxxx and so on and would change everytime you hit ok. In any case, first try to check if there is a piece of paper or a small object inside the printer, then try removing printhead and see if it clears the error and asks you for the printhead. Clean printhead contacts if that was the problem. In this video. The gear went bad and I replaced it. The purge unit would not move since the gear broke. Check it out. It should be an easy fix.

    That's the ticket! What someone threw out has been saved from the landfill and I have a far better printer than I could ever have afforded. Thank you my friend! Very generous of you to have shared this.

    This tutorial from 303 Electronics is spot on. Factory HP diagnostics web based assistance is useless. The bottom line I've learned is that a lot of HP 6500A error codes are derivates of plastic gears either cracking or stripping out on the metal rods that drive them causing print head alignment or paper feed errors. I have 6 of these printers 3 of which that had plastic gear problems that I fixed (thanks to Gorilla Super Glue) and now work perfectly. These printers are descent quality and ink tanks can be refilled without having to buy factory ink tank replacements at 10 times the cost which is the new 2022 industry standard (no thanks)
    Great video from a very knowledgeable you-tube expert.
    Thank you!

    This fix work wonder on my HP Officejet 7500 A WideFormat. This model doesn't have an easy access so everything I had to do with some patience and some small pliers. It had the same problem with one of the gear broke (I just super glue it back together) and originally the complete piece wasn't even on the rod. I just push it all together and in a few moments the printer was working again. I wanted to share my experience just in case it happened to anyone else. Great video and thanks!

    Got yourself a sub! I had already found the solution but this is the first video I could find(makes it so much easier). Only gears i found are in china, saw a guy made his own with a 3D printer(you might consider this!). China takes 2 months, fawk them!!!! If super glue don't fix it, I'll try computer max or city or what eva the name is this week. THANK YOU!

    Super glue and baking soda - very strong and instant. Remove oil with alcohol, carefully dust the crack with baking soda, add super glue, press together - works better than first the glue then the baking soda. Works also with metal.
    "What the baking soda does is to act as a catalyst instantly hardening the superglue into its plastic form upon contact."

    Your videos are Great, I have an issue that I could use some help with. (HP6500) I tried to epoxythe gear on the document feeder (from tray) and it did not hold . I found the gear on line (10 tooth) and disassembled the printer and replaced the gear. After reassembly I now get a document jam error. The arm that drops down to feed the document works but will not come back up, the print carriage goes all the way to the left and turns the printer off. Obviously I did something wrong in the reassembly but not sure where to look. Do you have a parts diagram or any other info that could help?

    Are you familiar with the error “0xc19a0020” which is “Ink System Failure” and which part usually fails? I have installed new ink cartridges and a new print head with no success. Also all of the flat and pin contacts on print head have been cleaned as well.

  • @michaelmccathrin9167
    @michaelmccathrin9167 4 роки тому +3

    yep, I had a cracked gear. HP does not care about customers. I hope the gear last long enough for the printer to be considered outdated, thus forcing you to buy a new printer. More profit for them.
    Maybe time to fire up the CNC and make one out of aluminum or even wood.
    Even better yet 3D print one with a high strength filament.

    • @sueporter8812
      @sueporter8812 3 роки тому +1

    • @mccwho
      @mccwho 3 роки тому

      @@sueporter8812 I'm looking into it. I have an idea to use either the metal or chopped carbon fiber filaments for 3D printers. Might be a while I need to learn more about those filaments and then there is the learning curve in actual use. The time I can spend on this is limited as it mostly jut a hobby until I can figure out a business use for this technology. CNC would be nice but than there is the problem with mating the metal gear to the shaft. So that is probably not practical. I actually found the entire carriage assembly on ebay for $30 so I just replace the entire assembly. Next time I'll buy a Cannon or other brand, NO MORE HP Printers !!!!!!!!!!!!!!! But if and when I do do this I'll post something back on here.

      I sometimes have them, but currently do not. I may in a week or so. I tried to order some aftermarket gears from China, but size was off. Can't find another listing I can point to currently. Have you tried adding glue to the rod and gear to see if that helps? I wasn't successful because of tension.

After putting the arm back in, sometimes the car moved normally but other it had the same stucked behaviour. So I think it's not an ink issue!! Maybe other gear inside that exposed side...

      The reason may be that there is a lot of ink gunk build up on the right side or that gear is broken. You may need to open the right side cover to manually spin the gears and that will release the ink carrier.

      On HP 6500A, you can continue printing when color ink cartridges are low, just hit "OK" when low ink message pops up. I'm not sure if it will override the low ink error if ink cartridges are empty, but I think it will.

    • @motorrad2
      @motorrad2 3 роки тому

      Mine did the same. I believe the small gear holds the entire arm mechanism on the shaft. The shaft is knurled under the gear, and if the gear splits, the inner diameter expands and the knurled shaft just spins. When it spins, the arm is pushed outward and off the end...I didn't think mine was split, but when I removed it, there it was. I super glued it and have it squeezed in a vice right now, not real confident it will hold, but there are gears out there if needed. p/n CB057-CG01 or CB057CG01

    • @303electronics

      The ink cartridges have to be installed in order to use the scan option. Even if the ink cartridges are empty or dry, it will work, but if you remove ink or printhead the printer will not let you scan to computer or card. If you have error code, it needs to be taken care of first in order to scan also.
