The Irish brown bread is known as Wheaten Bread and you are right it is wonderful. Also, Soda Bread (mostly seen in Ulster/Northern Ireland) is also incredible especially when toasted or fried.
Fair play lads, it’s a great list. I would probably add Bacon and Cabage with a honey crust and served with new season potatoes (June/July). So yum. And yes Guinness IS part of your 5 a day
We've added to our list! Thank you for the recommendation, Happy Travels
What you ate is Irish Brown bread, which is extremely easy to make as the leavening agent for the bread is Baking Soda. Using buttermilk makes it especially tasty and if you cannot find buttermilk, just add vinegar or lemon juice to whole milk, which will give the same affect. The key to making good batter for the fish and chips is allowing the batter to be cold and using rendered beef tallow for the fat you fry the fish in....make sure the oil is a good temperature to make the batter go crispy.
Thanks so much for tuning in and commenting! I believe the “wheat flour” we have in the US isn’t the same texture as what’s used over there, but maybe I’m not searching hard enough. Thanks for the baking tips! Cheers and happy travels!
@@jimmyandbabstravels I am Irish, but I live in Orange County, CA. so the struggle is real for me to find some of my Irish foods. If you love the Irish brown bread, try King Arthur baking company, they sell Irish style flour for to make the bread you love. Its 14.95 for a 3 lb bag of flour and its not like other breads, you don't need to use yeast and allow time for it to rise. Using nice quality butter, salted, adds proper good flavor to your bread. Like I said try to use buttermilk which you can get, Knudsen have a nice Buttermilk here in the states and contrary to opinion, buttermilk is a low fat product.
What did you miss? Langoustines, aka Dublin bay prawns, basically mini lobsters. There is a festival held around the end of April every year celebrating this fantastic seafood.
There is also wood smoked salmon ( best on brown bread with a pomegranate & radish salad with horseradish crème fraîche)
There are many, many others, but that makes a good excuse to come back 😄
I'm from Derry City in Ireland and must say you peeps got them Irish food favs bang on..I would strongly suggest you come back every year and specialize on each one of them meals to find the best ones for quality and price😀.Plus Babs looks Irish anaway🤪..PS I'm struggling to think of what part of Ireland Jimmy is from considering he had the right name🤣...Good luck people and thank yoy😍.

Nice vid guys, im from dublin who has visited Galway many times, love the place, PS Babs you remind me of one of my fav singers Karen Carpenter. dont forget to visit Dingle next time on your travels.
Thank you Frank, I wish I had a voice like hers! We just love Galway! Happy Travels
In fairness, KAREN CARPENTER wouldn't have made the best food critic ever... (God love the poor soul...) xx SF @@jimmyandbabstravels
Spice bag, Ireland's most popular takeaway meal.
Added to the list for next trip! Thanks and happy travels
Maybe try a trip out to Howth next time in the dart..great seafood including Beshoffs fish and chips and King Citrics..
Thanks for the tip! Babs has been to Howth but we couldn't squeeze it in, definitely will visit next time!
Seafood chowder is available in Boston, U.S. I assume this happened because there are many Americans with Irish roots.
Been forever since I’ve been to Boston. Will have to chow down on the chowder next time I’m there. Thanks for tuning in and happy travels Gigi!

Ireland is on a food revolution
We totally agree! Can’t wait to go back in a few years and see it blossom even more. Cheers and happy travels!
Coddle is a native dish to Dublin. needs to be tried.
Ah we haven't tried that, will add to the list!
'CODDLE' is basically an IRISH STEW but with Pork Sausages and strips of smoked bacon instead of Beef or Lamb... (It's seasoned with herbs and black pepper...) In Ireland, it's often referred to as 'WHITE STEW'!!!! (There are LOTS of ways to prepare the dish... Some people add milk or cream (like in a Stroganoff...) It's actually pretty bland depending upon the herb and spice additions... (Some chefs add white wine or even brandy or sherry!!!! Also, the QUALITY/FLAVOUR of the sausages and bacon is all important... (INTERESTINGLY, because of Irish Immigaration to the city of LIVERPOOL in the UK in the 19th Century, 'Coddle' became that city's token dish!!! EXCEPT because of GERMAN IMMIGRANTS the dish was called 'SCOUSE' (after German Sausage) so NOWADAYS people from Liverpool are called 'SCOUSERS'!!!!!! (If Dr.Jimmy had some problems with IRISH STEW he's going to struggle with 'Coddle'!!!!! DONE WELL it can be gorgeous... But it can be REALLY BLAND!!!!) xx SF

Its Wheaten Bread; if you said brown bread in Ireland they/we wouldnt think of this bread.
Oh thanks so much for letting us know that! It is so so darn delicious!
We'd also refer to it as soda bread quite a lot, in Cork anyway.
@@MrRoryG maybe so, soda bread is a soda farl where I am (NI) and entirely different
You were obviously in Galway, best place anywhere for fish dishes.
Galway was such a pleasant surprise. Loved loved loved it!
