I painted some finishing touches and was gone for half an hour and the whole project fell on the floor after someone accidentally pressed a light switch, but the switch controlled a gate. Apparently the project was resting against a gate, how about that. Well, with the original Game Boy circuit board behind it getting damaged and a few structural parts I had about 3 hours to fiw it before GWR's team came over. Luckily I had my childhood Game Boy with me and had a spare FPGA board, it was a bit painful but that was the quickest I had ever soldered. The whole project was a rollercoaster of stress and overcoming problems, but definitely worth it on many levels. The most important being the amount of improvement in skills that came with it; soft skills such as handling stress and all the skills required in producing the project in itself with limited tools. Anyway, thanks for the inspiration and congratulations. 🎉
I would feel this is a more worth it video to watch than the Arun's reveal video on the streets. The amount of work Matt has done is more remarkable than the reveal. While i would give credit to the idea, but after watching Arun's video, i went looking for Matt and making sure to watch this video till the end and like/subscribe to him as he deserves alot more credit in this creation. @@sclwrk Did you watch the video? They literally showed off mirroring but explained that it can't be used because it doesn't support touch from external displays which defeats the whole point of the project... So no, there was literally no way to use an iPhone because of how locked down and useless iOS is.
@@Notpoop906 I think you could still do it, with a bit of tomfoolery. Make a Hackintosh as the PC inside the giant phone, and then use that to do the mirroring to the real iPhone. The touchscreen would emulate a mouse/trackpad, and could then control the iPhone. Not like this project isn't hacky enough as it :)
Matt, this might seem like an odd tangent, but seeing your dad get more and more involved with your projects (whether it's with assistance or even just making cameos) has been a treat; it's great to see father and son working together on a project. And in this one, you even got the help of a ton more, too! Your collaborative stuff is always fun to watch, and I look forward to seeing more of it!
I think you’ve spent huge amount if money to build this project. But at the end - it’s just AMAZING! It was so interesting to see all the build steps (especially when you were making this huge touch screen). That’s so awesome!!!
It truly is ironic that Apples own restrictions have stopped what is easily the most impressive Apple related project from having even a single piece of Apple hardware or software
its kinda sad how regular PC components and a distro of Android x86 are being use to basically promote iPhones, but i guess views are views, giant iphone just attracts more people
I’m an American and my favorite economics model was made by a man from the UK: G. K. Chesterton. The model? Localism. And it seems that you Brits have embraced localism in part by supporting the guys who made that touch display, who appear to be local (as you were able to film on site). Helping local businesses (as long as my pocket book allows) is a priority to me. Good to see it elsewhere
@@sclwrk you’d still need to get this to do touch screen pass through which should be fine if you make it think the touch layer is a “usb tablet” Found this by running macOS in a c/m on a tablet and noticing it auto detected the touch screen function
This build was absolutely amazing! This must've taken you at least 2-4 months to complete! Even after all this, I would like to recommend a few more things which you should've added to make it resemble more: 1. Sensors that you find in an iPhone, like a gyroscope, accelerometer and magnetometer. 2. A SIM card slot. I know it sounds weird, but you could just make a big hole that looks like a Big SIM card slot and hide the slot behind the hole. These are the only things that I thought you should've added to the build, but other than that, I absolutely loved the build and the way you and Mrwhosetheboss presented it. One new subscriber is guaranteed for you!
Matt, this project is absolutely mind-blowing! Seriously, creating the world's largest iPhone isn't just some wild idea; it's a stroke of genius. The fact that you're pulling this off, even as Apple, the giant, looms over the tech world, is just incredible. How can you not admire their courage and vision? The touchscreen issue sounds like a nightmare, but honestly, that workaround? Using acrylic to separate the touch layer and LOCA glue to keep everything crisp and functional? That’s some next-level ingenuity! This isn’t just a massive iPhone for show; it’s a testament to what’s possible when people push beyond the limits of what’s expected. You can feel the passion and drive behind every detail. I’m so pumped to see the finished product because, honestly, projects like this are what keep the maker world alive and exciting. Matt is absolutely killing it, and deserves all the love and support for his hard work!

There are certaintly plenty of people who do this, being an expert on glue is a true skill. Did you know that on modern air planes many parts are glued? Because it brings less tension than welding, has better behavior if entering failure mode etc (a glue will bend, while a weld will break) and so on.

Unrelated comment- I work night-shift and make use of all of your "artificial window's" series. I make them for me an my coworkers, when they bring me old TVS. I love them, set em up to timers and have them do daylight cycles The basic TV ones are easy to do, but the ones where you shine a LED through a soapy acrylic door look sooooooo nice. I want to do one of the acrylic ones in my closet, but i fear my closet isn't deep enough to really sell the effect/ idk It's been a while, and these are perfect for basement dwellers; if you ever think of a more compact design for the fancy ones, you should post it!!
I built one much like that big fancy one Matt made using a standard bowens mount reflector. It's not amazing, but it's very small and cheap. You can also get more expensive and larger bowens mount modifiers that work better. Instead of making a gigantic tank of water to put in front I was able to use the filter mount in the reflector to put the filter much closer to the light and therefore make it much smaller. Also containing water is a massive pain (not to mention heavy), but I found out that certain clear bathroom silicone caulk has the same effect. it's so much easier to work with, you just squeeze it into a mold and wait a couple days for it to dry and you never have to worry about leaks or water getting gross. I believe I used clear GE bathroom silicone (the cheapest stuff in home depot), but you might wanna try out a couple of different ones to find the one that looks the best. The filter I made works really great though.
Well it's hard to even call this DIY anymore. Many people collaborated and factories. So Design It Yourself - partially cause software was done by someone else Assemble It Yourself - also not quite Build It Yourself - not at all with many parts ordered outside and built or milled to spec.

That’s incredibly impressive Matt. The camera part I don’t fully understand how they will work knowing how fiddly they are to get going when turned on and needing access to the camera to go through the menus. But also, I don’t understand what you are using for the front camera, I don’t think I missed it, did I?
Hey Mr Bloom! The front camera is an OBSBot Tiny 2 with all its pan/tilt features removed. I found it to be the 'webcam' with the best image quality by a significant margin (same class as a DJI Pocket 3 imo). The other cams are indeed a bit tricky, but it was the best combo I could find. The Sony presents itself to be connected to as soon as the phone is plugged into mains power (the camera is left 'on' so when usb power is detected it activates). As for the Canon, the rings need to be removed (they're magnetic) and an FN button pressed followed by a confirmation on the touchscreen, which connects it to a mobile hotspot that the phone is also connected to, so it's able to be accessed whenever without disrupting Internet access. It's a bit convoluted but it's the best I could come up with!
@@Sithhy It goes to both of them. It was a team of 10 people who made thw whole thing possible and these 2 are the head of this product so they both get credit

That's a great story! Sounds impressive too!
That is indeed an impressive story! Thank for sharing it, and for the compliments!
Superb job done by Matt and putting all the parts together to make it itworking device. Just like Apple, the credit goes to Cook and team, but no one compliements the designers and the assembly team.. Great stuff @DIY Perks. 🎉
Bro, I was here in your profile looking for a new video and found nothing, but boy oh boy I wasn't prepared for this, imagine having this mounted on Arun's tv room, with just the usb cable going to the outlet, must be a incredible center piece for a tech nerd (as myself), I would love one of these in my room!
INCREDIBLE work my friend, congratulations, You keep outworking yourself after all these years!
Lamar helped so much to make this happen, what a G.
Any time he needs me, I'm happy to help
Of course, I am beyond impressed. But my favorite aspect is that in order to make the best, most expensive iPhone, it had to be an Android.
well, they could've made it an iphone using a mac mirroring an iphone but they used android because it's open source
This video deserves 50 million views. This is the most impressive thing I have seen all year.

@@MunshiShamsulHoque No, they've made world's first gigantic android iPhone 😂.

How ironically fitting it is that the "World's Largest iPhone" needs to be powered by Android.
it's only because iOS is proprietary and android is open source, though they could have achieved this using a mac mirror

This build was absolutely amazing! This must've taken you at least 2-4 months to complete! Even after all this, I would like to recommend a few more things which you should've added to make it resemble more:

I work night-shift and make use of all of your "artificial window's" series.
I make them for me an my coworkers, when they bring me old TVS. I love them, set em up to timers and have them do daylight cycles
The basic TV ones are easy to do, but the ones where you shine a LED through a soapy acrylic door look sooooooo nice.
I want to do one of the acrylic ones in my closet, but i fear my closet isn't deep enough to really sell the effect/ idk
It's been a while, and these are perfect for basement dwellers; if you ever think of a more compact design for the fancy ones, you should post it!!
