@@alvinkoh5556 Mr. Alvin, if you speak Tamil through out the whole state of peninsula Malaysia, it's very difficult to find anyone who can speak Tamil language, even the Malaysian Indian with their own mother tongue language, they can't speak their own language in front of Malay, Chinese or any other races, otherwise they will look down on the one who speak Tamil, unless the Indian with same race or religion, but even though sometimes they didn't respect or talk among each other when pass along side by side. Thank u for this video. I used to have Jamal's mutton soup in the cold nights coming towards the end of the year. Every Saturday i will do my usual long jog from telok kurau towards bedok jetty and i will always jog past the abandoned buildings. The paintworks still remains good.
It is kind of sad moments because they have to move out to other places 😭...but I'm happy because they all stand together as One, regardless of their Race or Religion ♥️👍🇸🇬...
my parents used to run a small coffee shop here back in mid-late 90s. i believe they were the predecessor of jamal’s restaurant or maybe the one prior. they have both passed on. being born in 96, the first few memories of my life was me playing around outside the shop. how i wish i was born slightly earlier so i could have more memories here. having only spent a short portion of my life around here, this video gets me so emotional, i cant imagine what these people feel after having decades of memories taken away from them. hope all of them are safe and are happy now :)
I'm a Malaysian Malay Muslim man age 34, from Malaysia. Yes, you are right, because my uncle 71 has told me story about old Singapore during the year of 1957, when he start to attend in primary 1 B, of Dunman primary school, Tanjong Katong Road, Singapore, at that time only Dunman lane. Sometimes during school holidays, my grandpa and he will visit my causin at kampong Siglap. There they will go for swimming, from the beach he could see Siglap oberlisk ( stone monument ) my grandpa will swim close to that monument, the sea water was a little bit shallow, especially during low tides. The monument now could not be seen, which have been covered by reclaimed land somewhere around area carkpark (E) of East Coast Park, 1 km before Bedok jetty. I think my young fellow Singaporean friends of my same age didn't know about it, which has been told by my uncle is a Malaysian and my late grandpa is a Singaporean senior citizens in Singapore. If my grandpa is still alive, his age is now 106 years old.
"Teh tarik laa...nasi briyani laa...roti prata laa...curry-curry laa...chicken, mutton, all have...semua ada situ..." My mouth has started watering now after listening to Uncle Jamal's list of delicacies ....hehehehehe!
2020 now . four HDB blocks are opposite of Siglap Center along East Coast Rd . just looked into google maps . the whole block is empty . i havent visit it as of yet . always pass by without noticing the 4 blks .
Siglap...reminds me of My Opera Estate Boy's School...in the 70's.. (sad)..this place have to go...now i staying in Malaysia...Wow i love the FREEDOM...here.. (But Fidelio Street i always remember)😃
Wondered how’s that place now. Have not been passing there for years. Used to go to the hair salon further up the road mostly at weekends. Loved the old areas. 💕
Yes, I'm a Malaysian age 34, from Malaysia, my uncle 71, has told me about old story during that time along East Coast Rd, the Katong Bedok Bus Service is their route started from Lrg 6, Geylang, Guielimard Rd to the end junction of Bedok Rd. Singapore.
I was weird the Malay people speak English and cinis. I was terkejut shocked about it. Somewhere you know like in Shanghai or New Xealand. Saya harap mereka boleh bercakap Bahasa Melayu dengan lancar serta berbudi bahasa. "HARAP FAHAM LAH"/Hope to mean it.
I litterally walk there every Monday, it's sad really that such a place is left empty, I still remember that Prata Shop and do I miss Mr Soh? Yes, I remember going there to take picture for student card for my first day of Primary school
I used to frequentthe wet maket here with my mum when I was a little girl.. I love to sit at the little stall while waiting for my mum n eating chee Cheung fun

A limousine is a long luxurious car. This means that you're not limousine drivers, you're taxi drivers. Singaporeans are always using the wrong english terms.
I live in US now since 1980 and I used to go to Jamal and Wong"s Clinic. I attended Siglap Sec Sch, walked to the wet market and ate at Jamal.
We respect Mr Jamal moustache guy. His hokkien conversation is second to none. Respect him
Rudy Lopez wait till you hear my Tamil, then you will throughly understand what is second to none! :D
Me too!!😁♥️👍🇸🇬....

Should tell stories about Siglap when Tok Lasam opened the village in year 1809. This is part of Singapore history.
I live in Australia now, but Mr Soh took my passport photos for me in 1979. the siglap wet market was across the road right?
So much memories at siglap
Till now its still there, left looking untouched, abandoned but filled with many memories there.
Yes weird they have not done anything to it
I feel kinda sad when the uncle say people don’t take pictures anymore and he barely had enough to survive I mean at that age I hope he’s doing ok
I didn't know about this old estate but I did explore the Siglap enclave with the eateries.
