Hi MaryEllen! Love all your videos! I did a similar trip to Ireland after my husband passed, it will be six years this St Patrick’s Day…and our middle son passed away in August of 2008 at 20 years old…as we both and everyone who has lost someone very, very close to them knows grief never goes away but we need to learn how to live with it and love with the new person we have been forced to become. I paused your video and went right to Amazon to order the book you mentioned, so thank you for that and please thank your daughter. My wish for you is to continue healing and finding your joy…always remember, we are still here and that’s important. It took me 5 and a half years after our son passed to really have a genuine smile on my face but much, much shorter after my husband…not bc l loved and (still love him) less, but bc people like us unfortunately and sadly have a very specific skill set. Our losses are in reverse but I think it still applies. It helps me to think of them often(as if I couldn’t), talk to them often and talk about them when I can an encourage others to talk with me about them. You’re right no one knows what to say and that’s okay, just I hope they never forget. I love watching and listening to you, don’t change for anyone. Enjoy your trip!

PS me again... I hope you enjoy your audible book. Grief is so personal. Everyone grieves differently. I wish for you that you can put your memories in a special place in your heart, mind and soul and reach for it when you need to. This trip is such a big step for you. I'm proud of you. Spreading Michael's ashes in a beloved place with your loved ones will hopefully be a turning point to more healing. Hugs!

How did you get through this video without crying your eyes out!?! l too have lost my child (2 years ago). She was 25. I'm still in shock. I've lost my dad, oldest brother and went through a terrible break-up. 💔 At the end of the day, I'm just happy to be here...getting back into planning. Your videos are so helpful and comforting to me. l thank you!

All of my office supplies have names. One of my former stapler’s names was Dory, and when she broke, I cried. Because I needed to staple 500 things, not because I mourned her life, but I feel the note about the stickers.

Life is too short Mary Ellen! You’ve 100% done the right thing to take that money and go to Japan with your family! If you kept waiting for the right moment you would potentially of missed the opportunity! You can always replace the money into your retirement, but you would never get back the moment! Love your honesty and this spread is beautiful 😍

So glad to hear that you and family are going to Japan together to honor your baby, your Michael!! It will be bitter sweet but in the end all new memories are being made. Do what’s best for you and your girls. They will love to honor their brother to the fullest too!! Have an amazing trip to DC for Go Wild!! Would absolutely love to be there to meet you and so many others!! Would love to see memories done with your creativity and chat about it all!! Maybe make pages and talk through a little bit about pics and/or writing all the fun things!! #Gowild, #wildu, #plannercommunity 😊

I'm a new subscriber and I really enjoy your videos! You've inspired me to start decorative planning @ 54 yrs old! ~ I love your creativity and always appreciate your openness in your videos. ** My mom is Japanese and I spent half of my childhood living in Japan - near Hiroshima. It's a country that's easy to love: lots of culture, kind people, and great food. During your trip, you should try to do a little shopping in the GINZA (the shopping district in Tokyo) or at the large department stores. They have great stationery stores over there! I'm sure you would find some cute washi tapes, pens, stickers, etc. ( I can neither confirm nor deny that I still have a collection of stuff from my teenage days! 😅)

Crystal, I think it's so beautiful that you and your family are going to Japan to celebrate your son and spread his ashes. My mother always wanted to go to Hawaii and was so devoted to her children and suffering from health issues and never was able to go. After she passed, I selfishly wished she was cremated, so I could keep some of her ashes with me and then travel to Hawaii and let her body rest there. The cemetery is so far away and such a depressing place. Even though she's been gone almost six years, I can never escape the grief-I just cope and try to celebrate my love for her and honor her memory. I love not only watching you plan but listening to you when you share about loss and its impact. I can relate and your words are so authentic and healing. Thank you.

Oh you are going on a trip good for you! When my sister and I started cruising after our mom passed we took her ashes with us and sprinkled a little here and there, Spain was a big one because she loved Latin men😜. Online they have a jewelry place where we bought necklaces that you put ashes in. I have a clover leaf. Very well made and beautiful. Sorry I can’t remember the name, just google memorial jewelry. As for reading, I went and bought Never lie by McFadden, I read it in two nights, it was so good, so thank you for mentioning her, I will be reading more, I loved it and could not put it down! So excited for your upcoming things, you are living your best life. One day at a time, you got this!❤

Mary Ellen, I am 54 so I can relate to those 80's references you make :). My son was 25 when he passed away on Jan 12, 2019. He also really liked Japan. Luckily he actually got to go there with some friends a few years before he passed. We had decided to scatter his ashes, but when it came down to it, we just couldn't do it. I too have not been able to read any self help books about grief. My brother gave us one called "When your child dies" but I haven't read it. I have a box that holds all the cards we received, but I haven't been able to look at them since the funeral. I think you're right, we will never ever get over it, my husband says you just move through it. I say there's a Brandon sized hole in our hearts that won't be filled until we see him again. And I am a christian so I know I'll see him again. It's the only way I'm able to get up in the morning. And of course, people mean well but unless you've lost a child you do not know the intense pain. HUGS! Oh, and I totally agree with your friend, glad you're going with your girls.

Japan. Best place ever! GOOD walking shoes! If your planning to hike Mt. Fuji it's fairly steep in places and loose ground under ur feet. When we went in July there was still snow at the top. Highly recommend going to Yokohama...look it up, so much to do! Many ppl carry their trash and dispose at home, not as many barrels as u might be used to out n about. If you encounter a non-western bathroom be prepared to squat! They are super helpful and friendly. I would recommend getting a translator card that is for Japan, with pictures on it so you can point to what your looking for instead of trying to recall vocab. It's really all walking for the most part. And that initial time change is rough if u can't sleep on the plane. It is truly a wonderful place...I hated leaving. Enjoy!

I never thought of using the currently page at the end of the month and it makes perfect sense, even more so now having my KellofaPlanner the way it's set up. I honestly hadn't used a currently page as a "currently" in quite a while because it bothered me that the page was "before" the month. But, I will now be implementing your process in my journal, which was also inspired by YOU 🙂. P.S. I am not an ice cream fan either.

Tokyo: Is the Olympic Village still there - hostel prices? Definitely public bath, a couple of times until you are okay about it. The first couple can be awkward. Then it is so healing. Japanese stationery! Japan is the perfect place to honour your son, as the culture has death rituals and an imagination of perpetuity. Maybe have a monastery visit and talk about why you are there? An otter cafe? (Things I would do if I went back.) Those few basic phrases and courtesies he was learning will take you far with these hospitable people. A gift-wrapping class. It is art! A flower arranging class?

❤ beautiful page, I think it’s so great that you are going on your trip to Japan it will definitely be bittersweet but loads of new memories for your family. I will have to check out that book you are listening to, it sounds like a great book to help with grief. My sister lost her daughter 12 years ago and they are raising their granddaughter that belonged to her daughter she still has rough days because like you said grief stays with you when you lose someone so close to you. Big hugs to you.

This is a super cute Currently Page….I love the soft colours and the doodled squares.
I can only imagine how hard it must be to open yourself up on social media like you do, Mary Ellen. I hope you know just how much you help others. I’ve made a note of the book “It’s okay that you’re not okay”, as well as the novelist Frieda McFadden for my next book buys.
Thank you so much for sharing. ❤

Hey, you said you wanted to write about your son, but ran out of space. I think it would be cool if you haven't written in the big dream it do it sticker, to write about him there. Have a great trip!

Can someone please tell me the name of the video where she talks about why she's not engaged anymore? I can't find it, and i'm sorry for that. 🙈 I have followed this great artistic women for as long as she has been on UA-cam. I love all her videos💞 And really want to know what made Mary Ellen and her fiance chose to break up. Please💐🥰🌺

It’s from 2 weeks ago called “more life changes” chit chat self care page
She only mentions they aren’t together (I feel so weird if you’re reading this, Mary Ellen)
but she does not talk about why.
I’m sure you agree, it’s quite alright if she never mentions why, as she never needed to tell us they broke up anyway.
Any bit of info she gives about her private life is a well-thought-out choice so if she doesn’t elaborate more than that, just know it’s because it’s none of our business and she simply chose not to!
We’re lucky enough to be allowed in at all.
I hope you have a nice day, internet stranger. ❤
