Nice to see this footage…a great reminder of me and Dave Carlyle’s attempt in winter 84, a similar day : couldn’t get through the summit rocks also severely delayed by severe ice over everything, backed off but had a extraordinary ski back down the Linda …
3 climbers currently missing and presumed dead on this mountain currently. Came here to see what the climb is like. Glad you guys made the smart decision to descend.
Nice video Nick. What a slog for the team but great to see some responsible mountaineering in action! AND also great to see a bad ass mountain gal in one of your films!!
I love watching your videos and thank you for filming your sojourns up the apus!!! Absolutely honoring all three of you for the epic few days you had and for turning back when you were so close (I would say you succeeded for sure). Thanks for allowing us mere sea level peeps to have a glimpse of the magnificence of the alps!
Looks like a great adventure. Thanks for sharing. I saw Mt Cook from the Eastern side a few years ago and wanted to know what was at the top. You have showed me that! I still wanna climb it, looked like a slog 😂
Thank you, enjoyed ! What was your thinking on day 1, when you turned and came back to base ? The weather was perfect, why not stay up the mountain, and summit the next day ? This is only a cutesy question, with absolutely no weight on it. As I am totally unexperienced. Just after your take. Once again, great video ⛏⛏❄❄
hi, i'm really interested in getting into mountaineering but i'm not sure where to start. do you have any advice? i'm from melbourne australia if that helps
If serious in the long term, I’d suggest you begin in your home town by building up good level of fitness and endurance, join a rock climbing club to learn some rope basics and then you could work towards a trip where you do a multi day mountaineering course. For example NZ alpine club offer these, but you will get the most bang for your buck if you’ve got a good base before attending. All the best 👍
This was mid October, we spent an extra day putting in a skin track in up the Linda the day before, but you otherwise you just need 1 good day from Plateau hut
Guys, what conditions do you expect if that was horrendous snow? 5cm for skinning and what, 15cm-25cm for walking? How much better do you need it? You either ski in snow or on ice, either way you will have a bit of something, won't you? Sorry, a bit disappointed with the moaning about what I would say are amazing conditions....NZ or not

Same here, also think they were well prepared, and made the right decisions! Rare thing to see nowadays.

Brutal! Good work
Sorry you didn't get to the summit, but there's always another day - nice little video though, you seem to have enjoyed yourselves.

Did you guys need ice tools to climb up or was an ice axe with crampons sufficient?
Two tools are definitely required
@@nick_kowalski_film Copy thanks!
