#1 reason for a buffer tank, is to keep the pump fed so it's not starved and ultimately damaged due to that starvation. The buffer tank and bypass hose are two totally separate entities that serve two totally different purposes. All in all, enjoy the videos bro. Keep them coming.
yes but you still have to wait for it to fill up. So if you have a big 275 ngallon tote you have 50-75 to fill just to start pressure washing again. with smaller tanks it allows you to start working again when you run out of water
I have a 8 gpm pressure washer and a 325 gallon water tank with a 3/4 inch fill line. And I still run a 2nd water hose most of the time from customer spigot to the top of my buffer tank which means I’m running 2 3/4 inch hoses to my tank while I’m washing and it takes just that to keep me from running out of water in the middle of jobs.
I run the 275g because I also use the soft wash pump from it to fill up plumbing rough-in pipes for inspection. Average house takes 50gal. But the truck/ van is a 1 ton.
Thoughts on running 2 separate 5.5 gallon pressure washers at the same time with a 225 gal buffer tank… i understand it will need to be at around 100gals to even start, that being said if i run water from the house into my buffer tank that starts at about half full, will that keep both machines going at the same time or will it run below the minimum required amount to run the machines?
You could do that. You can tie together and run 11 gpm. The biggest thing is you really don't want to run with a half a tank of water. And if you don't have a truck to pull that if you don't wanna run it full either. DJ runs a 10 gallon a minute pump with 100 gallon tank. Are you planning on setting the gun down and talking to people and not flowing your pressure washer? If you answer yes to any of these questions then yes you will need a buffer tank. The buffer tank is designed to keep the pump from overheating. With a 4 gallon a minute pump you can get away with a 35 gallon tank for a buffer tank.
@@kingofpressurewash I plan on working it straight through. I'm a 20 year professional painter by trade and I have finally decided to give soft washing a proper place in our business. We absolutely have to wash ALL exterior surfaces that are to be painted anyway. Softwashing goes hand in hand with the exterior painting business. So you don't think I need a buffer tank??
Shellcracker Lover All it takes is 2 to 3 minutes of not holding onto that gun will burn that pump up. If you’re planning on doing a trailer or leaving it in the back of the truck I would definitely probably do a buffer tank.
@@kingofpressurewash First off, thank you for all of your videos/tutorials. You have been a great help. To my question. I have a 4gpm AAA pump (I know it's crap, but that's what I have). It does not have a bypass line from the unloader to recycle the water when the trigger is let off. It does have a thermal relief valve. Can I remove the thermal relief valve and put in a fitting to plumb to my buffer tank?
Gary Pick so you will have to install a Hudson flow valve and a bulkhead fitting in the top of the tank. This will allow the flow in from the garden hose coming from the house. This will help with low water flow but if you don’t have a water source you will need a very large tank to be able to wash a houseWithout water from their house. So the purpose of a buffer tank is to keep your pump from overheating and also keep it from starving from water if it is low flow water source. Does that make sense?
@@kingofpressurewash And, is there a certain number of gallons that need to be in the tank in order for the weight to give it the required 30-40 PSI flow into the pressure washer? I can imagine if the water level gets too low there won't be enough pressure and the pump cold 'starve" as you put it. Uphill? Length of tube between the buffer tank and the machine? Also need a hose connector at the bottom of the tank for outgoing?
What is your experience with an 10 to 11 gpm system and the use of a buffer tank? Thinking that if two supply lines are ran (if possible) then they can not always keep up wirh demand. Taking out 10 gpm or 11 gpm Putting back in 9 1 to 2 gpm short of demand. Take that short and divide it by your H2O supply tank ( and HS is to be considered in as well) and you have the time you can run toll out of water. Other factors asxwell but this gets you in the ballpark.
Jason, I’m looking to start a mobile wash & surface cleaning business. I’m torn between a 55 gallon tank and a 250 gallon. I want to try my best to stay away from using customer water because they will ask for a discount & definitely don’t want to put strain on my truck. What’s a good size you recommend?
Make use of home water clear in the contract at your agreed upon price, just make sure the buffer is in the lower quarter or less when you're done so you're not taking advantage.

The water tank is designed to keep your pump from overheating. Now you can use it where if you want to haul water all the time but you will need a big enough truck and trailer to pull that
It's too dangerous to drive up and down the highway with a big tank full of water, a 35 gallon tank full weighs 300lbs hell it's all about keeping the pumps cool. People don't think about the weight, they don't realize how hard it is on breaks and if that load is not properly balanced it is a disaster waiting to happen. I use the customers water 💧 it's cheaper and safer, if they don't want me connecting to their water I refuse the job period. I tell them these tanks are for chemicals and keeping my pumps cool. If pressure is weak I use a pump which helps to get the volume I need. Many people want to have this nice build but a lot of that is not going to make the job anymore effective if you don't know what you're doing or if your riding with an unsafe load on a trailer that's not rated for all that equipment.

Thanks For watching
If there was bleach in my buffer tank and I clean it can I use it as my water tank
Yes
Hey Jason im up grading to a 5gpm 3000psi belt drive pressure washer and i bought the plumbing kit with it i have a 65 gallon legged tank with a bulkhead on the botton of the side of the tank can i run it from the top of the tank or should i run it from the side . I was wondering because i will have to grind out the hole to use the 1" bulhead
Thank you for the video
Thanks
Hey so I just bought the Mi-T-M 3500psi 3.5gpm hot water machine. Is a buffer tank suggested on ALL machines or only the ones that get up to the higher GPM levels? I want more GPM but gotta start somewhere AND I don't want to damage my equipment as I'm building
Do I need a buffer tank on a 4gpm machine?
@@kingofpressurewash Thank you, sir!
Appreciate the facts 👍
Excelent video
who else is doing follow ups and having Jason in the back ground? haha
Are you still monitoring this page? I have a question or two...
I do

First off, thank you for all of your videos/tutorials.
Would u sell any of them hose reels in the back ? Lol
Good stuff
Dave The Window Licker thanks for watching and commenting
good info
And, where can I buy a buffer tank? The water tanks I see online don't have the hose-in section.
What do you mean by the hose in sections
@@kingofpressurewash I might be a bit confused about the water flow in and out of a buffer tank.
And, I thought this was going to help me do projects that don't have a water source or have limited water like well water systems.
Does the same rule of having a buffer tank apply to an electric power washer?
daniel ramirez no cause a lot of the electric ones will shut off when it builds up pressure
What is your experience with an 10 to 11 gpm system and the use of a buffer tank?
Thinking that if two supply lines are ran (if possible) then they can not always keep up wirh demand.
Taking out 10 gpm or 11 gpm
Putting back in 9
1 to 2 gpm short of demand.
Take that short and divide it by your H2O supply tank ( and HS is to be considered in as well) and you have the time you can run toll out of water.
Other factors asxwell but this gets you in the ballpark.
Everyone keep saying the tanks are cheap... where?!?
Jason, I’m looking to start a mobile wash & surface cleaning business. I’m torn between a 55 gallon tank and a 250 gallon. I want to try my best to stay away from using customer water because they will ask for a discount & definitely don’t want to put strain on my truck. What’s a good size you recommend?
That will be very difficult to not use customer water. Even with a 250 gallons tank. We have never had an issue. I personally would go with a 55
I personally don't care to use customer water and if it's a problem for them you probably don't want to work for them way I look at it
Make use of home water clear in the contract at your agreed upon price, just make sure the buffer is in the lower quarter or less when you're done so you're not taking advantage.
I didn't know any professional washers used the customers home water spigot.
Hi Jasón thanks for take your time and make all videos with that info, your r awesome person, I have a question, I have a pressure washing machine 4000 psi 3.5 gpm hondagx390 I want to put a buffer tank, but I’m not sure if what size is good I’m thinking about 35 gallons tank, and the second think is if I have to put a 12v 5.0 pump after the tank to supply water to the pressure machine?? Tanks
no you shouldnt need a pump to feed machine
Pressure Wash Help thanks Jason, thanks for the info!
You don’t drink coffee??? I’ll have to rethink my subscription lol
Do I need a buffer tank if I am running 4 GPM pressure washer?
You can get away without a buffer tank on 4GPM. You have to make sure it don't over heat your pump by not leaving the trigger open
Thank you for the videos.I am currently building my trailer an using a 65 gallon buffer tank.Running the supply from the house to the tank with a float shut off .Then plumbing from the tank outlet to my washer 4gm .My question is do I need a booster pump from tank to washer.Tank outlet An washer input at same level.
@@TripT5 no you do not need a booster
So I need a water tank for what exactly?? I'm confused
The water tank is designed to keep your pump from overheating. Now you can use it where if you want to haul water all the time but you will need a big enough truck and trailer to pull that
@@kingofpressurewash thank you!
You wanted a new transmission anyway
The number one reason for a buffer tank...
Crap, now I'm drunk.
Many people want to have this nice build but a lot of that is not going to make the job anymore effective if you don't know what you're doing or if your riding with an unsafe load on a trailer that's not rated for all that equipment.
dude dont look at yourself on the phone screen. Look at the camera lens. LOL. That way you will be looking at you audience when we watch the video. Nice video though. LOL
Im getting better. i started filming where i cant see the screen
Guys are idiots there tryna trick the costumers into thinking they don’t need their water 😂 that big ass tank they need more of the costumers water than somebody without a buffer tank
You need a buffer tank if you want to get jobs done efficiently!
