Same, I'm not in any camp. I haven't listed to a Drake album since Take Care. I haven't rocked as hard with Kendrick since To Pimp a Butterfly, that was his magnum opus IMO. Similar to your Drake experience I found out about him almost a year before he started showing up everywhere. A girl left a rough copy of his album before he cleaned it up and dropped the official.
He was a creative lyricist with a good ear for beats and could sing. Had no idea what he looked like, where he was from, or what a DeGrassi was. I knew he was dope and could blow up.

It's specific things Drake has done that gave people reasons not to like him. Sampling a beat from R Kelly, basic raps in comparison to great rappers and how he blew up compared to their career. But now, Kendrick has given rap fans reasons not to like him. Selling out when he claims he's a true rapper, going in a religious route in rap, rapping in a more artistic way when he hasn't proven yet why he's 1 of the best. Taking breaks that last for years when he hasn't proven himself. And when you compare both artists to past greats, they don't live up. There's living legends right now that would cook both, that's not an improvement on hip-hop. They both need to step up and right now Drake is coming correct. I don't like either 1, I'm hoping Em comes out with that album soon and shows both of them how to do it
