    I rarely comment on UA-cam videos but this is one of the best channels on UA-cam. I bought a boat in December of 2022 (Robalo R200) and have learned so much from this channel.
    Joe, you are an outstanding individual in terms of the material that you present, your delivery (which is flawless) and your generosity in sharing so much of your knowledge. I loved the last episode when you towed your brother's sail boat to the dry dock facility and your "how to" videos in general. That said, you are costing me a lot of money! 😂 I've bought so many products for boat repair and maintenance after subscribing to your channel.
    Keep up the good work and thanks so much for such a great channel. 👍

      Wow, thanks so much for your comments! I appreciate you taking the time to let us know what you are enjoying about the channel and the videos we are making! Haha, and sorry about all the money I am costing you! They say BOAT stands for bail out another thousand!

      @@FishBumpTV, the 2016 Robalo R200 has never been in salt water and was really well cared for so it's in virtually new condition. I spent a little over $500 on various products that you've recommended and also bought a DeWalt buffer/polisher so not a lot of money, and nothing compared to the other upgrades that I'm working on. I just have a few nicks, scratches and dings to repair in addition to keeping the gelcoat in great condition. Thanks to your channel I feel that I should be able to do a good job.
      This is my first boat so your channel has been and continues to be a valuable resource. I sincerely hope that your channel continues to grow and becomes the leading UA-cam authority on boat building, repair and maintenance. I've looked at hundreds of UA-cam boat-related channels, and none of them come close to the level of detail or quality of content that you're providing. It must be a lot of work but what you're doing is absolutely making a difference. Thanks again! 👍

    New subscriber. Just bought a 1984 31' Chris Craft Commander that's gonna need some work. Learned so much from you already. I have a soft bow deck/V-birth ceiling. Would to see how to do the procedure where you partially drill a grid pattern of holes half way through the bow deck into the balsa wood core and inject resin or epoxy in the holes to stiffen that deck. Thanks for what you do!

    How long would you say that it's ok to leave a 2 stroke motor hanging from a lifting lug. Im going to need to pull my mariner 2 stroke 115 hp inline 6 to complete my restoration on an 88 procraft bass boat. Will it hurt the motor to leave it hanging from a lifting lug. On a cherry picker if I put a 4x4 block under the skeg and take some of the weight off? That old "tower of power" weighs around 450lbs! I have been following your channel for a while now and really enjoying the content. This restoration project is just the thing I wanted to see. Please take the time to show the rigging work when you install the new motor. I would love to hear your thoughts on how a DIY guy can get the bottom of a trailered boat gel coated as well. Sorry such a long comment. But I'd love to pick your brain on these types of challenges. You are "THE MAN" Captain thanks for taking the time to do these videos and reply to all your fans

    • @FishBumpTV
      @FishBumpTV  5 місяців тому +1

      I have never heard of any problems with leaving a engine on a hoist like you are describing. Especially if you let it rest on a block on the skeg. Glad you are enjoying the videos and finding them helpful! Sounds like you have got a great project boat, and I hope our upcoming videos will help you get her done!

    Dude, poly tanks are where it's at. I understand if you have money. I understand what the LEGEND capt Joe is saying, boats old, that was a specific poly tank that they made and now you can't find the exact replacement. But. If were just talking how a material holds up over time. Which is basically physics. Like Einstein stuff. Plastic will last 100 years. And that could be a naive answer...

    • @FishBumpTV
      @FishBumpTV  5 місяців тому

      Agreed! Poly is great, as long as you can find one that fits. I hope we can find a exact replacement! Thanks for your thoughts !

    Looks like y'all have your hands full. Can't wait for y'all to start on the transom. I've was given an older boat, and i need to rebuild the transom. I have a question, the old transom is wood. Should i stick with wood or use coosica, pvc, or pour a liquid transom? Thanks, and I'm looking forward to all these videos on this rebuild.

    • @FishBumpTV
      @FishBumpTV  5 місяців тому +1

      Thanks, glad you are enjoying the videos! The different transom materials all have there place. Plywood is going to be the cheapest and easiest to get, but if done poorly it will not last as long as the others. Coosa board is a really good choice, and is probably what we are going to use in our project boat. If access to removing the old transom core is very difficult, then a pour able transom might be a good solution. I hope this helps and thanks for watching!

    Thanks Capt. Joe! I will really enjoy watching you progress through the restoration. A comment on "Getting Started". I've done some aircraft and auto restoration work. A case of resealable freezer bags and a some permanent markers are the ticket for keeping track of small items, fasteners, etc. Freezer bags are sturdier than sandwich bags, and you can easily label the parts in the bag with the marker. Really handy, when you start on the outboard.
    As a DIY'er, I hope your project is a good candidate for a pour-able transom! It would be great to see how a Pro tackles that. Thank you for sharing your knowledge with us!

      Glad you are enjoying the videos! Yes, I agree, freezer bags are are great way to help keep things sorted and organized on jobs like this! I will be organizing some of the small parts soon. The previous owner had started the demo, and everything was in bulk in the back compartments, so I didn't get to label as we went. Thanks for the suggestion and for watching!

    Watching your videos I'm struck by the similarity between the folks in Alabama and my home in Eastern North Carolina. Breaker/cheater bars, yellow flies, summer humidity and the occasional tropical weather system are all the same here. Boat building is a big industry as well with World Cat, Hatteras Yachts, Grady White, and Jarrett Bay within a 50 mile radius of my house, not to mention all the one man/family boat building operations along the coast.
    I have a Key West 239 FS, but have always wanted to try my hand at boat building and am contemplating a small skiff or jon boat that would allow me to get into the rivers and creeks that are too skinny for the Key West. Your videos are a wealth of information and are giving me confidence to think seriously about moving forward with that project.
    As for the project boat, one recommendation would be to make sure to provide good bilge access. I love my Key West, but the one complaint I have is that from the size of the access hatch they must have assumed that a five year old would be the one checking on the bilge pump and fuel/water separator!

    • @FishBumpTV
      @FishBumpTV  5 місяців тому

      Wow, thanks so much for your suggestions and thoughts! Yes, I have always said and thought that your part of the coast and mine are very simular! Your area definitely has more Big name boat builders though, we do have Cape Horn and Blazer which are pretty well known.I like your idea of a skiff build! I have built a good number of small boats and have thought about building one next winter here on the channel. I agree with you on the access to the bilge problem that many boats have! That was something that was very important to me when we built our custom 29. Again, thanks for watching and best of luck with your future boat projects!

    Seems easier and cheaper to build a new boat

      It might be easier to build a new boat if you are a professional builder with a shop, molds, specialized tools etc. Most people watching the channel are DIYers with boats that may have some of the same problems this one does, so it makes it great for the kind of content we are putting out. I hope this helps, and thanks for watching!

      @@FishBumpTV Ya, looks great! Just meant paying someone to do all that would be easier. to buy a new boat..Could build a cored one-off style hull, some vacuuming bagging and light fairing could be easier....Rebuilt a couple boats before LOL

    Always wondered why people use aluminum tanks. Watched a dozen videos about aluminum fuel tanks leaking and needing replaced.
    Any perks for using aluminum over plastic fuel tanks?

      From my understanding, years ago plastic tanks didn’t have baffles which prevents the sloshing, not sure if that’s the case now.

      One of the main advantages aluminum has is that it can be built to custom sizes and the tanks can be built larger and with internal baffles to help control fuel movement. The downside is corrosion issues. Most factory aluminum tanks are built out of thinner aluminum and may not be properly coated so as to slow or stop corrosion. We installed a heavy duty epoxy coated fuel tank in our 29 and I expect it to last a Very Long time! If you want to see the install, it is in our boatbuilding series of videos.For smaller boats and tanks, plastic can be a great option. I hope this helps and thanks for watching!
