- The security around the state of Israel is not there to oppress the Palestinians but is there to prevent the annihilation of the Jewish people, says author Douglas Murray.
Mr Murray joined Sky News Australia to discuss Israel at war with Palestinian terrorist group Hamas and to explain why the people of Gaza would have annihilated the Jews in Israel were it not for the borders.
"Maybe we have had a reminder of that in the last week,” he told Sky News Australia host Rita Panahi.
“We knew it, they said it for years - it is us that are stupid.
“It is we in countries like Australia and Britain and America who have been naive and we should so something about that.”
The people who warned against mass immigration are not at all surprised by this turn of events.

When people are being told they are bad for having a different opinion this is not democratic and is very much like the shunning in some religious methods. The thing is, Islam is naturally anti-jew, and in general cruel to all non-Muslims. We Christians surely did commit mistakes, but when we did, we were disobeying our religion. In their case, the more they obey theirs the more hateful they'll be.
And another problem is that the people from extreme left have an agenda, and the Jewish identity doesn't favor it, because you never assimilated too much with other populations, and never became weak or completely dependent on the government or easy to manipulate (despite some are quite naiive). But in general you have very well set strong moral values which will not pass away. The left wants every one to be uniform, equal and easy to control. Jews have strong identity, culture and family and always will be, and you're usually not ignorant.
