They wasted 4 years of Bluepoint's and Bend's time on... this? I hate what Sony has become, this obsession with live service needs to stop. Unfortunately, we know that they are still developing (at least) 3 live service games and if any of those is even moderately successful... well, let's just hope they aren't and that they understand how stupid this path is for them

They've stopped with live service I presume cos it was Jim Ryan's idea and he's no longer there and they've cancelled all the live service projects so I think its safe to assume it's over for those ambitions
People need to realise the live service direction was Jim Ryan’s plan, since he retired Sony are clearly trying to back pedal on this but it doesn’t happen overnight.

There's nothing wrong with sequels so long as they're of good quality. Bluepoint, Media Molecule, Bend, Housemarque, and likely Santa Monica are all working on new IP's.
The problem here for their live service titles is that none of these are free to play or attached as an additional mode to their single player games, which was how GTAV and other multiplayer offerings took off. The PS3 era had so many experimental multiplayer and co op modes which were frowned on if you announced it, but you may have loved it if you tried it (ex Assassin's Creed or Uncharted) etc

For example, if a game I'm following is in active development, and then it gets cancelled, welp, I gotta deal with it. No way. This information gives us insight into the health of these companies and let’s us know where they are putting their resources. It also helps us know if these companies have a good idea of what we gamers want etc.

God of war Ascension was dope and I played it for long after release only because of the multiplayer. The combat was fun and rewarding. I would’ve liked to see what they came up with this time around
Maybe sony saw somthing that they didn't think was worth continuing to put money into. I would much rather a canceled GoW game instead of a bad GoW game.
Sony just wasted the studios time with this. If they didn't, we already could have gotten a Bloodborne remake and Days Gone 2. And those likely would have made good money. Instead Sony flushed a couple of hundred mil down the drain. Just plain stupid.

Tightening up the belt loop on frivolous budgets on old format games is good idea. Take a page from Marvel Rivals. A Horizon open world mmo would be a sweet battler 🗡️ 🐴 👧
Sony last gen kept releasing good single player games from their first party studios. Now they give them a mp project and cancel them. Glad I skipped ps5.
