    This is absolutely beautiful!!! I was a teacher several years ago in Zuni and I remember seeing the dancers and even participating in traditional dress at an entertainment night fundraiser for the high school band. Those were the best days of my life and I'm not even kidding!

    I wonder how long these ceremonies have been in existence? I'm moved to tears knowing your People still carry on what Creator has given you so long ago. Good to know your young adults participate & know the importance that this continues. Aho.. from Northern Cheyenne Nation, Montana.

    It’s amazing how consistent something’s are. The dance is pretty consistent with the description of Pueblo Indians in a book I’m reading about the Rio Grande (Great River) from 1953.

    when I was living in New Mexico I was "fortunate" enough to be there at the Buffalo Dance in Sandia Pueblo , and the other dances that took place that same day there, and I will not ever forget it...My eyes still water now from the tears I cried that day....It was so moving for me..It was much smaller than this one, 4 dancers in all I think...but very moving and Powerful too... I sure wish I could see one this BIG... with ALL these dancers...quite amazing ...In the middle of the dance, at Sandia, the guys all standing next to me, all at once, all lifted up their blankets they were wearing, and took out guns, rifles and pistols, and fired their guns up into the air...which injured my ears permanently, so now many years later, the extreme high pitched ringing in my ears never stops 24....7...for over 10 yrs now... I live with the sound of loud intense ringing in my ears......"tinnitus"... the doctors call it, and it has "no cure"... OH HOW I just wish they had warned us about the guns about to be fired right next to me, I would have stood back away during that time, and it would have spared me all these years of INTENSE painful.. suffering.....

      No offense but they don’t have to warn you about anything .

      There’s always a reason

    • @timmccarthy3034
      @timmccarthy3034 5 років тому +1

      @@kt-tu6jl yeah right, it reminds me of th estatement in that old western movie, Treasure of the Sierra Madre...when the guy asks to see the badges of the "sheriff", the guy replies back, "Badges? Badges?? We don't need no stinking BADGES"...... Well ...you do kinda offend me, 'cause it's not coming from a place of love and compassion the way you speak....it's coming from that "other place", the place of hate, violence, and racist thinking.....In fact, that's EXACTLY what they told me when I talked to them about it later that week, at the Pueblo tribal government office... to let them know I got injured.... and they told me basically, that they didn't "give a fuck"...(I guess it's their way of avoiding any possible law suits) ...., that "it was not their problem", and told me that they "didn't have to warn me at all.... about anything".......I told them I KNEW it was "already too late for ME" ...... that "the damage was already done" and it is "PERMANENT"...that "NOTHING" could be done for me, medically, so I was not asking them to pay my doctor bills etc........but.......I just asked them to "warn the People" in the FUTURE so "nothing bad happened to anyone again like it happened to me"....I am not too sure they are going to take my advice on that point or not, probably not......Too bad, because FOR SURE.... now some innocent little kid standing nearby, is going to get hurt, and it's gonna fuck up their entire life.......all because the Natives don't feel that they don't need to give a simple verbal warning" about gunshots fired at that certain point in the dance......WTF???? ...yeah yeah I know, it's their land, their Ceremony..etc etc etc, so I don't even have the "right to be there" right??? But hey, they DO LET IN THE PUBLIC in the Dance there at Sandia Pueblo..so..... in a VERY REAL way, I feel it's THEIR RESPONSIBILITY..to let the public KNOW .....(whom they invite inside)....... WTF is going to go on ........while they are inside the dance area, to warn them.... to protect them from possible harm....or as in my case, life long injury....I mean check it out Bro, they DO TAKE THE TIME to tell people that they cannot take photos, or recordings, or even draw pictures of the Dances, etc , so WTF DON'T THEY JUST ADD A FEW MORE WORDS.... AND TELL THE PEOPLE THAT "THERE WILL BE GUNS FIRED AT A CERTAIN POINT IN THE BUFFALO DANCES" AND THAT FOR PEOPLE WITH PREVIOUS INJURIES...OR IMPAIRED HEALTH CONDITIONS... THAT THEY NEED TO STAND CLEAR OF THE AREA DURING THAT TIME ....WTF ??? WHY CAN'T THEY JUST SAY THOSE SIMPLE FEW WORDS THAT WILL SAVE PEOPLE FROM BEING HURT????????....So, I ask you Bro, WTF is so fucking hard about giving the people standing around a little fucking warning about gunfire going off , for old people, it could cause THEM to get a stroke or a heart attack, for babies, it causes all kinds of traumas, for people like me with previously injured ears, it causes life-long painful injuries........The REASON I put THIS WARNING out there in this vid comment section, is to WARN PEOPLE of the danger.....so they don't get FUCKING INJURED like I got ..so I can SAVE someone from being injured for life.........it was not to get on here and "argue" with people like you, who think they KNOW better than me about my own personal life .......

    • @kaylae3661
      @kaylae3661 4 роки тому +3

      Honestly with all due respect they don’t need to tell you or warn you about anything especially when they don’t even ask or expect anyone from public to come watch. If they allow it so be it still doesn’t mean they have to. Did you pay? They usually do these rituals and dances for higher purposes and to keep their traditions alive. In my opinion anyone from the outside should know and forecast or expect *ANYTHING* from walking into another cultures sacred or non sacred practices period. Is like when going to an American soldier funeral, they don’t warm anyone of shot guns firing up in the air, to them the public or invited guest should just expected. Similar to these dances or any other cultures customs, they don’t need to notify anyone of anything that’s normal and part of their festivities or whatever else. If an outsider wants to join let it be at his own risk.

      @@kaylae3661 You know what? That is the exact same, non caring, cold-hearted answer that they gave me, when I went back the next day to let them know how they injured me...If you "care" , at all, about people, then you have "respect", for all people, no matter "culture" they are "in"...or "from"..... and no matter "what" you are doing....Going to a military funeral, is NOT the same thing as going to a Sacred Ceremonial Dance , so your analogy doesn't hold up logically, in my way of thinking, because EVERYONE KNOWS THAT GUNS GO OFF IN SUCH AN EVENT.........first off.......And NO .....I didn't "pay" to go in there , but I think I did pay like a small fee, like 2 dollars, for "parking", because, not only was I just a poor struggling artist with no money, taking care of a very sick, injured and disabled wife, but, also, there was "NO CHARGE" for the event....If there was a charge, I would have not gone inside....It was "free", AND THE PUBLIC WAS "INVITED" to attend..........as most of the Pueblo Dances are....If they didn't want the public to come, they would simply have a sign , and gate closed , at the entrance of the Pueblo , saying "public is not allowed in for this Sacred Ceremonial Dance"...period...and that would be it......They can do whatever they want....it's their right , to invite the public, or , to keep them out.....In this case , the public was "invited".....OK? ...In my way of thinking, the most important thing , in life, is have respect for all people.....You don't ever treat people like a piece of dirt... ...You don't ever tell them, if they come to you , saying that you injured them, to "fuk off" in so many words, and "it is your problem, not my problem", or "too fukin bad" , etc.....You at least treat them with respect..compassion, or even the big "L" word, "LOVE".....instead..........TRY TO HAVE A LITTLE SYMPATHY for them......It's like this, if I am driving down the road....and I see a little kid, running out in the street, do I just keep on driving , because it is my legal right to drive on the road, and "oh well, too bad for the kid if he gets hit, he is breaking the law by running out in the road , so I have the right to hit him".......or , do I put the brakes on, stop, and wait, or at least ..."honk the horn", to (WHAT? HEAVEN FORBID).... "warn" him..... that I am coming, and may injure or kill him if he doesn't get out of the way? How easy is it , JUST to speak a few simple words "of warning".....(out of what I call, "respect"....."compassion"...."caring"..."LOVE")" to the public, who YOU invited to be YOUR GUESTS ....at the Dance , that they are going to fire off guns???? And that may bring SEVERE harm, to old people , as well as cause shock to little kids, OR babies etc, or VETS.... (people with severe PSTD°) ..OR.... PEOPLE LIKE ME.... WHO HAVE PREVIOUS EAR INJURIES FROM YEARS AGO....... How "easy" is that ?? It would take , like, what , 2....3....4 minutes tops , right? , to say those simple, few , caring, compassionate "words of warning" right? I AM RIGHT OR WRONG ? OH YES... THAT'S RIGHT .I almost "FORGOT".....I ALMOST FORGOT.. THAT ICY, COLD HEARTED, ARROGANT REPLY THEY GAVE TO ME.....that "they don't have to "say anything"..."to warn anyone"......they can just do wtf they want ....and not care at all, if anyone gets injured...I DO UNDERSTAND THAT VERY VERY CLEARLY... They can also put a little cardboard "sign", a simple hand painted sign, in front , at the entrance, that gives the warning of the use of guns, so that no one gets injured...so that way , they do not need to bother "to say" not even 1 little fukin word.......( as if they are living in a sacred "vow of silence"....and cannot speak to anyone)..WTF???? JUST WHAT IS THE EXACT "REASON" THEY HAVE..... FOR "NOT SAYING ANYTHING" TO ANYONE TO "WARN" THEM........WTF IS THEIR BIG FUKIN REASON?? Oh , that's RIGHT ...they DON'T NEED "A REASON"'......It reminds me , of an old classic movie I saw, the "Treasure of the Sierra Madre", where the guy asks to "see the badges", of the Mexican bandits, pretending to be lawmen, and they all laugh out loud, at the ridiculous thought of answering such a question, then, they truthfully reply, "Badges? Badges? We don't need to show you any stinking BADGES".......It's like that , exactly..."THEY DON'T NEED TO GIVE ANY STINKING WARNING"...I FUKING KNOW THAT ALREADY.........as I have been told a number of times........But MY "big question" is this ...WHY THE FUK NOT???WHAT IS THEIR "BIG IMPORTANT REASON"?...WHY NOT JUST "WARN" PEOPLE??? Isn't that better , more kind, more caring , more compassionate , than just letting them walk into a potentially very dangerous situation? with NO WARNING?? Even a fuking RATTLESNAKE HAS "THE COMPASSION"...."THE LOVE"......"THE RESPECT".....TO SIMPLY AND VERY CLEARLY "WARN" OTHERS .....not to get "too close".....YOU KNOW WHAT I AM SAYING ????? THINK ABOUT IT.....ARE WE LESS OR MORE INTELLIGENT THAN RATTLESNAKES? DO WE HAVE LESS OR MORE LOVE IN OUR HEARTS THAN RATTLESNAKES??? I THINK RATTLESNAKES HAVE MORE LOVE AND RESPECT IN THEIR HEART THAN MOST OF US HUMANS DO, by the way I have been treated by both, as no rattlesnake I ever dealt with, ever tried to bite me, unless I tried to capture or kill it..( when I was young and foolish)...and for that , I have understanding and respect for it.. (Many SW tribes have a bad feeling about Rattlesnakes, but I don't, that is why I use the analogy here)..... HOW EASY IS THAT ??????? HUH????...... JUST TO PLACE A SIMPLE, CUTE LITTLE HAND-PAINTED SIGN OUT IN FRONT.... TO "WARN" PEOPLE???????? THEY CAN EVEN HAVE A LITTLE "FUN" WITH THAT, TOO, AND MAKE IT A REAL "PIECE OF ART"......or , just have the little kids do it...( LITTLE KIDS LOVE DOING STUFF LIKE THAT°).......if they SERIOUSLY "don't have the "time", to do that , SERIOUSLY... to take out "the time", out of their busy little adult robotic lives, to simply care for the well-being and safety of the people they invite to their Pueblo Dances................That takes no time at all, just takes only a little LOVE ....A LITTLE CARE ....A LITTLE COMPASSION.........A LITTLE UNDERSTANDING.......A LITTLE BIT OF WHAT USED TO BE CALLED ...."HUMAN DECENCY"..... or "HUMANITY"......which has now degraded, and turned into violence, jealousy, arrogance, hateful pride, greed, and total carelessness........I ALMOST "FORGOT".......so, "thanks" .....for "reminding" me.........TO THIS DAY.....MY EARS STILL RING LIKE HELL........and I am sure it makes my cancer get worse by the day too, cause it keeps me up at night, (WHICH MAKES ANY CANCER GET WORSE .... LACK OF SLEEP from stress°) I suffer greatly because of it..DAY AND NIGHT........AND ...I DO PRAY for the beautiful bright day when my painful suffering "will stop".....the day that I die, will be "a good day to die" indeed... so I say , in all earnestness, "HOKA HE".... to go into the Spirit World......the day when I don't have to live here in the ugly World that the greedy, selfish, non caring, cold hearted, (2-hearted) robot humans have created...I would really appreciate it, too, out of "respect", if you do not reply back to me. I am not writing this reply for your benefit, because I already understand and see quite clearly "where you are at" , in your mind, and I have no desire to relate with you, personally....please understand that......"no offense" to you, but it is just that way.......It is obvious that you and me, are not on the same level, and so, you walk your way, down your own trail, and I walk mine.....I write this for others who will read this... That is why I write this reply...I also don't "trust" people who don't use their "real names" as their "computer "name", like yours, for example, is a real phony one too "care2020"...ha.....What a joke..What are you trying to hide? AND why are so afraid.... to use your "real name"? .... I hope I make "my view" more clear to you also.......Let me tell you this, also, I am not just some dumb "white guy" , who knows NOTHING of the Native cultures ....I practice the Lakota traditional Ceremonial Way of Life...It is the foundation of my entire adult Life, and will be, the same way, in my own Death as well....... It's been that way for me since my early 20's, and now I am 60 yrs old.....so, almost 40 yrs now, I have been living and praying that way....So , please don't talk to me like I am "some dumb little white kid", who knows "nothing".... I have been in many, many, many Inipi Ceremonies, and I was even given the right , the permission, granted to me , by the Spiritual Leaders, of the Puyallup Tribe, in WA state, "to do the Sacred Ceremony for myself, and others in need"....So, I KNOW , from a long time ago, what it is , exactly, to live in "2 cultures", at the SAME TIME.......I am very well aware, also, of what the most important things in the Sacred Way of Knowledge are, and that can be summed up in just 1 simple word that you can easily understand, a word you used at the start of your comment to me, ....."R.E.S.P.E.C.T"........for "all People".....and I like to add in another word too.... that being, "LOVE"........because you can't have the one , without the other......You can choose to walk down the "Black Road", or the "Red Road"....in your life , and in your death......That "choice" ....is yours....But once you leave your body, that "choice", you make, cannot be undone.....so, choose wisely......which way you want to walk......You can embrace RESPECT AND LOVE AND HUMILITY AND FORGIVENESS.......or you can choose to embrace PRIDE AND ARROGANCE AND FALSE EGO....AND HATE....

    Ojibway from Canada here checking in. The Cree are the largest group here followed by Ojibway. Beyond your more well known groups in the US like the Navajo or the Sioux I don't know much so I'm on an 'internet quest' to check out US groups. This has a very 'southern US native' vibe to it, nice to see.

    We are Piikani and Lakota, my wife is Crow and Cree. Our 3year old son showed me this dance, I have relatives that are Zia and Jemez. I have never witnessed such an awesome ceremony. Therefore my son never has either, he said the buffalo men came to him and they had blue toes and showed him a dance! I asked how they danced and he said
    "Like this" and started as the men do...I asked what it was and he said "Buffalo Dance" he's a special kid...and since then he said there is Big Grandpa that follows him. Thanks for sharing and I hope to one day attend in support! Long live Real Humans!

      macaw feathers.....from the red and blue macaw parrots of the Amazon region, These feathers from the Amazon birds have been used for thousands of years, in dances of the southwestern tribes, the Anazazi used them....as evidenced by old feathers being found in Chacao canyon, Pueblo Bonito..and images of macaws, left in the ancient petrogyphls on rocks near Alb, NM...Long before there was any 'borders" or "border walls " or "fences"...the people traveled freely, up and down the Continents, of "North and Central, and South America"...Macaws were also raised in captivity much as they are today, to obtain the molted feathers, so no birds needed to be killed to get the feathers....and that way there was always a good supply of feathers at hand....

      @@k.mateya9475 Thank you so much for sharing your tradition with us. I'm missing watching my friends dance at Cochiti and Jemez. Different tribes and they wouldn't allow filming, so I appreciate seeing this. I've been to Shalako twice, and treasure those memories.
      Again, many thanks and I hope all is well in Zuni!

    If there are kids in my world who dont know Pueblo because Dad was adopted out in the 1980s. .. Im not sure what I'm asking... All those 3 kids know is that they are "not white." If they have never been exposed to Pueblo... is it right to make a "thing" of it? Father in his 30s with 3 little ones. So glad this posted!

    I apologize if Im wrong
    If the words are more important than the dance
    If I may listening helps see a very proud people one with respect to creator as well this animal this young boy moves as the men do .ready for a hunt ..so great a gift ..the way he moves showing respect for one’s elders is a value instilled from a young age by their parents.
    Looking and give thought
    gathering as a one voice
    One sound, bond of one people. If Im wrong will show a great need and time to find the words

      Yes in some tribes if you’re not part of the tribe or family you’re not supposed to is found extremely disrespectful especially to be use for your own public-social recognition... however from my understanding the individual who recorded this lives here so I’m assuming they asked for permission or is family. Some tribes are stricter and don’t like anyone to record. In a sense I understand but I also feel is too beautiful not to. If we record it’ll be something that future generations can have to remember such beautiful native cultural customs.

      Yes you’re not supposed to, from my understanding when Ive been invited in some tribes if you’re not part of the tribe or family you’re not supposed to and is found extremely disrespectful especially to be use for your own public-social recognition. Extremely offensive to Spirit too. However I think the individual who recorded this lives here in the pueblo. I’m assuming they asked for permission or is family. Some tribes are stricter and don’t like anyone to record. In a sense I understand but I also feel is too beautiful not to. If we record it’ll be something that future generations can have to remember such beautiful native cultural customs.

    It's unfortunate this song came from the mass slaughter of the bison.
    As in this dance from what i've been told is said to help the bison population increase.
