The Wedding Album is a great example of how a record album can be a piece of art itself, with the actual music only a part of it. It's been a while since I listened but I remember the music was just a documentation of the event, interviews and sound art to go with the other ephemera. You are definitely the only person I know who owns it on EIGHT TRACK though... WOW... it was smart to pick that up. If you ever need to prove your Beatles credentials, just say, "I own the eight track version of Wedding Album" and drop the mic! Ha!
It's like opening up a time capsule. John and Yoko's marriage is a point in Beatles history, and their desire to be taken seriously as artists is on display here. With references to their publicity stunts, it's sort of a treasure trove. I have to be suspicious of it being "minty fresh" though, with the dirt visible underneath the "shrink wrap" and such. Hope it didn't cost you a fortune.

If I felt myself that the wrapping didn't look Original, I would have opened it also, now if there was a Hype sticker on it Then of course ,You would have Known that it was an Original. As far as air holes go, If they are perfectly round then most likely it's an original. When I worked in a music store in the mid 1970s we also had a shrink Wrap machine & a Industrial hair dryer and it would never make perfect air holes, we would used an Ice pick to make a hole or a needle. I think it was meant by john to be more a phisical souvenir if his wedding than an actual audio record. Looking at this i think it works very well at it. I wonder if the eight track was a limited edition as there was not many with eight tracks i don't think, but really what the hell do i know right? Lol. Either way it was and is more of a collectable than anything else. I think as a collector your self it was a very worth while purchase
That may have been submerged under water at some point and then dried out over the the years. Everything seems to be rippled. Or exposed to extreme heat. I had a copy of the debut KISS album NB9001 without Kissin' Time/dry mix. It had been completely submerged in a mail truck during a hurricane/flood. The record itself showed no signs of this, labels were clean and vinyl played beautifully after a good cleaning. The front and back slicks survived and once dried looked fine. The cardboard itself disintegrated though.
The bubbling usually comes from storage in various locations. Most likely it was not kept in the "living" area of a house with temperature control for its lifespan but moved around from basements, attics, garages etc. Still a nice item for a Beatle collector to have, I've never seen one out in the wild. 👍
I'm surprised the shrink wrap is even intact after 55 years. The shrink wrap is just cheap plastic it was never meant to last. Sometimes as shrink wrap gets old it starts to have a chemical reaction to what it is wrapped around. The bumps and wrinkles in the box are humidity damage it looks like it might have been in a basement at some time. What looks like dirt is probably mold.
The 8 track did not sell at all. Story is John Lennon bought all unsold copies because he did not want the record company to take the loss and possibly tarnish his rep in the process. He put them in storage then later put on the secondary market by a buyer who purchased them from John at a drastically reduced price. I have yet to see an open copy anywhere for sale.
The artwork, packaging, inserts…fantastic! The sounds between the grooves? Laughable at best! 😂 I play the “John” “Yoko” track to freak people out! Ha ha! I have the 8track set too, it’s a nice piece. Glad you have it! Cheers

Hey Joe, I think it's cool that you actually chose to open a sealed collectible. Congrats! However, from my experience, it is amazing how much dirt and grime can enter under the shrink from just the couple of tiny airholes. I have found filthy LP's (under the shrink) that still have the hype and price stickers, so there was no doubt that the shrink was original. In this case, in my mind there is no doubt that the shrink was original, and time has done the item dirty 😁. Great to see it! Take care...

I would imagine that most people that bought the 8-track of this probably did not hold onto the box and inserts. I'm quite sure is an original copy. Albums like many things are organic. Sealed or not after so many years there is going to some decay. The indentations on the cover are the results of being covered in shrink wrap for nearly two generations. Good purchase!
I have the original UK vinyl. The gatefold sleeve of the record itself is beautifully laminated, and the vinyl looks mint - not surprising, it’s not exactly one you rush home to play. It’s amazing how much effort went in to presenting such a crap album, but I think the album is just one part of a beautiful package. I bought the cd-only version when that was released a few years ago (I didn’t need the box again, I already have the goodies), in case I ever want a listen again without risk to my original set.
I had a Japanese "reprint" I picked up in the 80s. two Virgins was funny and I still have that, but Wedding Album and Life With the Lions were just horrible.
I never had any interest in it though the artwork I now see was in itself collectable. I have a miniature model of his bed in guitar and the guy whom I got it from sent me the Same picture as the postcard. Good presentation.
Very cool pick up, Joe. I have a strange fascination with the Wedding Album. The package is what makes it special, but I actually enjoy listening to it every once in a blue moon. I can't say why - when I read about it before I ever got it I thought I would hate it, but I find Side One strangely hypnotic. Side Two is a nice historical document. Great find!

I’m so jealous 😅😂we have 4 ways of playing that 8-track in our house - quad deck, recording deck, portable, and car player ( quad and car are my husband’s hobby- he likes to fix old electronics - and the recording deck and portable are my old 8-track units that I saved because I made recordings as a kid on that 8-track deck!)
finally listened to my Cd Copy and boy is it bad. don't think I'll get to side two. Yelling John and Yoko for over twenty minutes is nauseating at best.

I can totally understand the lure of having an unopened item BUT sometimes to be able To have your hands on the contents of that item is worth it being unsealed. What treasure is included and indeed you have found Dome really nice treasure by opening not just the sealed 8 track but the booklets with the cartoons and articles SO FUN AND GREAT!!!! Not going to lie, I've never heard the album, but that is a nice box set, it's almost reminiscent of the Beatles deluxe box sets

I have a mint in box 8 track player from 1972. If i cant find a album that is rare i can still listen to it on 8 track.

The sponge has likely dissolved in the 8-track, but that’s totally repairable. Neat set.
Most likely since 8-tracks are known for self destructing over time, but can easily be brought back to life.
