It is crazy that the great Late Patrick Winston is still refered as Student in the subtitles. Says so much about calibre of M Minsky as one of the biggest minds to ever dwell on the topic of AI.
It was said that genetics/instinct only tells the body to "do" and that it is curious that there exists no mechanism for remembering bad things that happen to dissuade or inhibit wrong behavior. (at about 1:00:00) Doesn't fear, especially "irrational" fear (e.g. spiders, snakes, heights, etc.) do this?
Say I had a sentient robot, and the only energy needed to power it could be supplied via food as it has a human digestive system. Should it be able to see a mushroom and tell whether or not it will be dangerous to the body? If our creations don't have all the senses they need to make the right representations to survive then they're doomed
Took me a while to find this lecture so i am not sure you'll get this answer. One way: design a robust digestive system backup so when the primary food supply is poisoned it still can learn from the experience. Also, a sentient "robot" with a food chain is not easily distinguishable from "biological" beings. Sentient and robot .. which is forced labor or an automation of some sort .. I have question, too - what do you think - is it morally in order to force a sentient being into fulfilling extremely repetitive or hazardous tasks because its origin was of an artificial nature?
His voice got better imo his younger voice is more annoying. He is constantly making the weirdest noises with his mouth squishy sounds and lip smacking and weird coughing in all his lectures where he’s old
@@jazdinojames3250 I love his lectures , but those squishy dry mouth sounds drive me up the wall ... I can only watch it for half an hour before I start to go into a rage, so I stop and then come back after a while. I will never forgive the audio "experts" who put a sensitive mic cranked up to eleven right next to his phlegm filled throat. It's a travesty!
I listen to this guy to fall asleep besides sleeping aids. The guy has a kind heart and is brilliant.
Haha, literally about to fall asleep to this guy (on purpose 😂)
Also a pedo
I dig his mind too but apparently was an Epstein island regular unfortunately lol
No Way! Nothing surprises me. @@Matt67012

46:40 we need to enumerate all the intermediate interpretations when we can see them

Cyc, by Lenat, is the best AI project since 1984.

This difference between MIT and a Community College is a gold metal linked belt.
My dude, in no way that is a golden belt. Marvin always wore knit belts, this one's just yellow
Very enlightening.

They gave my boy a gold belt 😂
Listening to a few lectures by Marvin I found the most interesting thing he said was "Blah blah blah". Quite profound.
Totally agree!!! He's my sleeping aid at night. I dead serious. After his name dropping. But I like the guy. Go MIT!!!
thanks ❤️🤍
The Graham guy with pink hair commenting is not an MIT student.
Crazy how much his voice changed from earlier videos 😱

Didn’t think mit would offer such wishy washy courses in self-indulgence. Brutal
My neighbor graduated from MIT....... I use to be impressed.

Hey, at least MIT has a conscience on education and the BS besides money.
