@@Sgt.Hairynutts So what your saying is they shouldn't have tried to search him. Admitted him to a hospital with a concealed firearm which by the way is illegal to carry in a hospital whether you have a LTC or not. And if hes willing to open fire on police and kill a paramedic just for them trying to search him at the scene who's to say he won't try and kill a nurse or a doctor when they ask him to empty his pockets and change out of his clothes when admitted to a hospital. Plus I have a feeling that if he shooting at police and paramedics just for trying search him the fire arm hes carrying is illegal.
@@ColonelCommissarGauntWhy is it illegal? Who made it illegal? You think the cops are there to protect you? This man freedom was going to be taken away, if he allowed them to search. Was he bothering anyone, before the cops showed up? Why did the cops have to get involved in a medical emergency, in the first place? Can a car be considered illegal, since they have a higher mortality rate? Cops are people like you and me and why should they be the only one to carry a gun? Cops shouldn't have power over the people!

An honorable mention goes to the family of the shooter. They put out a statement acknowledging that the officers made the correct decision in shooting him after they saw the body cam footage. It is refreshing to see a family mourn the loss of a loved one and also have the courage and character to stand by law enforcement through their pain
I agree with your statement. It's very sad and I pray I'm never in their shoes but to acknowledge the wrong doing of their son must have been hard to do after losing him, yet they still did. It just sucks this even happened in the first place
Rest In Peace Mitch Lundgaard _Mitch was a 14-year veteran of the Appleton Fire Department when he tragically lost his life in the line of duty. It started as a routine medical call at the city’s transit center, when a man who had been revived after a drug overdose opened fire on police officers and firefighters who had just saved his life. Mitch died of a gunshot wound to the chest._ _While Mitch had a passion for serving and helping those in need, his family was the most important thing in his life, and it was obvious to everyone who knew him. He was a loving son and brother. He was married to his high school sweetheart, Lindsey, for 12 years. His love for Lindsey was demonstrated daily, and they were best friends. He was a devoted and amazing father to his three sons, Evan, Logan, and Ryan, who were nine, seven, and four at the time of his death. He loved spending time with his boys. On his days off, he was home with the boys and loved having that time with them when they were young. As they got older, he enjoyed coaching and watching his boys play in their many sports. He loved taking his family to Disney World every year, and we think he even had more fun than the boys!_ _Being in good shape was important to Mitch. He spent a lot of time running and exercising. Right before he went on his last call, he convinced the guys at the station to try to do 100 Man-Makers (Cross Fit exercise). They had completed 50 when the call came in. They are now referred to as “Mitch-Makers” within the department and with many people in the Appleton area._ _In his free time, he loved to golf and watch Packer or Brewer games. Sunday afternoons at Lambeau Field was one of his favorite places to be! Go Pack Go!_ _During his career, Mitch spent eight years as a firefighter/inspector before returning to the line in January 2019 as a relief driver. He completed several trainings at the National Fire Academy for fire investigation and was a Certified Fire Investigation (CFI) Technician with the International Association of Arson Investigators. He was an active member of the Wisconsin Search and Rescue Task Force. Mitch held an associate degree in fire protection and was two classes away from earning a bachelor’s degree in fire and emergency response management from the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh. Mitch was strong and confident in his career and built many great friendships and bonds with his AFD brothers. He was posthumously promoted to driver/engineer._ _Mitch is missed every single day by his family, the fire department, and his friends. His legacy will live on forever within the community of Appleton_
So beautifully & thoroughly written, thank you. Life can be so unfair even to an outstanding person like Mitch. A true hero. Condolences & 🌞 to his family & friends, from apparently one of his favorite places filled w/great memories....Florida.
I cant believe there are people in this comment section literally defending this junkie. He killed a FIREFIGHTER. Someone who dedicates his life to save others DAILY.
I can't believe there are people who have hundreds of likes in their comments that are all about sadistic shit about killing the shooter... Two wrongs don't make a right. Instead of promoting police shooting people dead with less hesitation, I think it'd be a pretty damn good idea to strip overdosed people of all weapons before waking em up. Absolutely the dude was a piece of shit who killed an innocent firefighter, but calling for blood and "he should have been dragged by the ambulance" etc. is just the path to becoming one of these fucks.
@@sarcasm-83 I think a lot of people are just venting and aren't really sadistic. This type of hyperbolic expression helps otherwise good men deal with the emotional stress of seeing innocent people killed and injured just for trying to help a prejudiced bigot who flies into a murderous rage because he didn't want a certain class of people "touching him"
Was shown this when it first happened, back when I was in EMT school and had to watch it again now in my medic program. Absolutely heartbreaking every time, none of this had to happen.
He took a hostage got her wounded, killed his saviour. Begged for his life and then killed his helpers. That's gratitude for you, the poor family left without a father.
That escalated out of nowhere. To lose a firefighter (or any responder!) is a tragic loss. To lose him from a gunshot from someone who’s life was just saved by his actions is heartbreaking. Damn.
The scumbag Pig cops and medics were trying to make more of it than they should have .... you even here the pig cop on the phone deciding rather or not they should "escalate" things.... had they chosen not to escalate things Mitch would still be with his wife and kids!!!

My nephew is an EMT, and he was on this call. Luckily, he was getting things out of the truck and didn’t get on the bus. Such a rotten man to want to kill someone trying to save your A$$.
Late mention but I worked a couple blocks away from this. There was a massive tribute parade for mitch with at least a thousand people lining the sidewalks. He was honored immeasurably for the sacrifice he made
Shoots at the people who saved his life, kills one of them and proceeds to shoot at police and tries to take a hostage and later begs the same people who he shot at to save his life. Unbelievable
In Germany he would not have been punished severely. He shot someone, there is usually a life sentence. But that's only a maximum of 15 years here. Then he did it in affect. He was also drugged and the police forced him to be examined. Then he felt threatened and shot. Maximum penalty 7-8 years. That's the law in Germany. I would rather live in America. There are still just punishments.
@Mark Travis I want to agree with you, but I’ve had more than one person I love die from opiate overdoses. Opiate addicts usually do fatally OD, but some get sober, and live happy lives. My father OD’d, and so did three of my friends. They all died.

Sorry that's wrong. The sadest one was the shooting of a armed suspect after Pursuite. In this Video a K9 officer loses his life in friendly Fire while solving his duty. Poor doggo.. :(
Kevin Murphy You have absolutely zero perspective. The guy was a drug addict going through withdrawal due to the medication that was administered by the paramedics, he was angry and didn’t want to go to jail. That’s a cocktail for destruction. How do you think he got hooked on drugs in the first place? Why do you think he had a gun? There are a million possibilities as to how he could have come into the situation that you see in this video. The person you responded to is 100% right in his assessment of the situation. The killer in the video did not wake up that morning and think about how much he wants to kill some emergency responders, that’s a ridiculous, completely emotional conclusion to make based on the video. All I said about the killer can easily be applied to the man who was unfortunately killed as well. But this is life, the firefighter and Houston could’ve easily been in the opposite shoes of each other had each of their lives developed differently. So yes, the entire situation is heartbreaking... A man died, and his family is going to be in grief for a very long time. And a drug addict who wasn’t in his right mind (this isn’t an excuse, it’s just the reality of the situation) murdered someone, and when he sobers up in prison and has years behind bars to think about his actions, he’ll most likely be in a state of constant guilt for the rest of his life. Life isn’t as black and as you seem to think it is.
D M the saddest part is some how idiots will make this in poir black man, not what it really is. People doing their jobs reviving a human being and that a person been un grateful -- and innocent people suffering, praying for the family of the real victims in this stupid incident

@@isitoveryet9525 Actually it literally does. It means that their job is many times less dangerous than other normal jobs. You are less likely to be killed as an officer than as a taxi driver
At least he died in fear and pain. As he was leaving the earth his life likely flashed before his eyes and he realized that his entire existence was a miserable failure. He never accomplished anything and couldn’t even afford a car. The only thing he looked forward to was buying the next bag of dope from his dealer. He was obese and had a low IQ, hadn’t gotten laid in years, and likely didn’t even graduate highschool. He never even shot his gun in his life before this moment, he just carried it to try and look gangster. The only notable thing he ever did in his life was murder a really good person. Now he’s gone, and soon to be forgotten forever. Good riddance

@@CNW0a drug did not cause him to fire his weapon at the police and by standers. He made a choice to draw his weapon because he did not want to go to the hospital. Your son sounds like an amazing man. A son to be truly proud of. You and his Father must be amazing parents to raise such a son. Prayers for strength and protection whilst your son performs his duties. 🙏🙏
They actually had more than enough grounds to cuff him. He just overdosed. He was making irrational statements. He was having trouble forming clear and concise thoughts and speech. He did everything he could to stop the officer from patting him down. (Huge clue right there) He made numerous statements that he took prescription drugs not prescribed to him. (Crime committed). All these things together gave them more than enough reason to cuff him. The officers were too nice to him after a certain point. Unfortunately their niceness caused someone their life. Always cuff the overdosed party for officer safety and their safety. There is a high probability that after being given narcan the person will wake up combative. If they are cuffed then it is no big deal. They can be combative all they want to because they are cuffed and are very little threat. If they aren’t cuffed, well, now you know the possible outcome. Just because you cuff people doesn’t men they can’t be uncuffed. RIP to the firefighter.
I cannot imagine the pain that the Llundgaard family is experiencing. The universe is chaotic and utterly unjust. The word tragic is overused, but this incident is truly tragic. You know how bad that would reflect the emergency services images if they were to leave a unhealthy man alone just like that? The consequences that'll follow? They would've been fired, the media would have a field day with that story.
@@Potandthekettle I was talking about the procedures that all three civil servant need to take, police, paramedics and firefighters "the ONLY procedure they should be following". Police procedure takes into account constitutional rights as well. Yes, they do pledge to uphold and defend the Constitution, that's the end goal here. But I'm talking about procedure that the police operates on to be consistent, professional, something practical. Just like the common law, these procedures are built upon precedents, cases, and practical application of the law over the time. I wish we live in a simple world where we only live by few rules but we don't live in that world. The constitution is important, I know, but don't be so single minded that you don't take into account other factors. By the way my media comment could've use a little clarification, I meant the effect the media frenzy will cause to the police, paramedics and firefighters. The media frenzy will cost the paramedics, firefighters, and especially the police slot of flak from the public and you know how the mainstream medias are. It may not sound so important to you personally but it affect the people working in those three civil servants sectors. You can already see this happening. They want the police to be defunded. Police without proper funding will turn out shit. Like the saying goes, you get what you pay for. If you want a real life example of shit policing just look at South Africa, a place where majority of the policing is done by private security companies, which doesn't have to swear an oath to protect the constitution. Btw, leaving the man to die? It might be easy for you to say that from a position of hindsight. Do you know what Duty of Care is? And the possibility of a major lawsuit if the guy dies and knowing that they could've gotten him to the hospital but didn't because CONSTITUTION! A lot of them are gonna be fired for not doing their job properly. It might not affect you while you sit at your home preaching and insulting people in a comment section of a video for almost a year and saying that upholding and defending the constitution is the only procedure that they need to follow. But many lives would've been ruined. But what happens to those people doesn't matter, right?
That was one of the hardest notes to take from this video. Watching for educational purpose, think to yourself what can be done next time... God forbid police, fire and ems treat everyone including drug addicts in the process overdosing just like they would anyone else is this is what they get in return. I hope to see a call for some type of Narcan policy reform or at a MINIMUM call for immediate handcuffing before Narcan is administered. Its prejudicial but if it saves lives? Im sure the suspect would've been patted down if he was supine on the ground and accessible but being in the seat made that difficult. The officers have to be dying inside. The split second decision to take cover and flank from the other corner of the bus left the Fire fighter without cover, a vest or a weapon. Obviously the worst case scenario.
IKR, they were even nice, polite, & professional towards him even after he killed the guy who saved him!!! Not a single one of them came off as a racist power abusing prick, not one.

Potandthekettle 1) it is a crime to take prescription pills that are not prescribed to you. 2) therefore the guy who was unconscious committed a crime 3) the suspect admitted to the crime 4) therefore the officers who are paid to uphold the law were doing there best to get this guy the help he needed and to follow the law which is why they would need to get “crisis” involved. When people follow the law these things won’t happen.
@@Potandthekettle I know you're more than likely trolling, but if you watch and listen to that full thing they do say (firefighter and the guy that was on the bus in the blue shirt) that he needs to go, dude was being sketchy as fuck aswell. I dont know US laws about having a firearm while under the influence, assuming it's a no no and I'm gonna assume he wasnt meant to have it either with the reaction. Totally. And the reason laws are so harsh (at least here in aus) for assaulting members lf emergency services. I have a friend that pulled his arms towards himself whilst getting handcuffed and instead of resisting arrest, got charged with assault, which I see as an abuse of this law...but this video made it so clear why these laws exist. Ralph Northam was he technically a criminal tho? he overdosed sure, but they hadn’t accused him of any crime. They asked him to go to the hospital because he’d been given narcan and he started shooting. Editing this to say I’m not defending the suspect. I’m trying to defend the firefighter by saying his death isn’t his own fault. It’s the suspects fault. The firefighter and officers didn’t realize the danger till the very last second before he shot
@Ralph Northam That's really easy to say while watching the video, but this guy didn't look like the type of guy to carry a gun on his hip, so the firefighters didn't think they were in danger.
@Ralph Northam hindsight is 20/20. The guy didn't really exhibit indicators that he was violent u til he started shooting. If anything the police should have done a pat down sooner, probably while he was unconscious in his seat. But alas in 2019 a pat down for a Terry stop is racist if it's performed on a black person.
It's not one way. It never is as long as there is time left on earth. I pray he repents, atones for his crime, and seeks forgiveness from the family, society and God.
Something to add here is that it came out earlier this year (2022) that Houston was released on a reduced bond a few days before this happened. News report said that neither the judge who signed the reduced bond nor the DA knew about Houston's past criminal history, which includes spending time in a federal prison. Basically, all this could've been avoided.
Imagine saving someone, that doesn't want to be saved to begin with, only to be killed by that person after saving them and then retaliate against that person and then try to and re-save them.
I dont think he was in any danger of actually dying. He would've come out of that high sooner or later. People go out like that all the time. I know this from first hand experience. So his life technically was never in danger in this encounter. 2 shots of narcan to come out of an OD? Hardly fatal. When you get to the 4+ shots of narcan needed then I'd worry he was going to die.
Why for defending himself AGAINST criminal law enforcement terrorists. They moved to assault him first. His body his right wether he wants to go to a hospital or not. The terrorist traitors caused it to happen if they would have let the firemen handle it and left the man alone and not terrorised and bullied the man nothing would have happened.

Very true, if he had simply overdosed and died on the bus the world would be a lot better off right now. Prime example of a true piece of shit. Unfortunately, when a person is overdosing like he already was on the bus, they're dying of respiratory depression, their throat will make a lot of noise (really horrible noise to hear), someone would've called at some point.

@@PatrioticTexan1776 I don't doubt you, I just wanted to make sure my position was also clear. Stay safe Vance and that's an amazing name if it is yours. All emergency responders deserve a round of applause for their daily struggles
With him being uncooperative every damn step of the way I'd say they were at a solid 35 mph before any weapons were drawn. What a sad loss of life because of this scumbag
Agreed. I worked in KCMO for years. Unconscious or wearing a nun outfit, people like Houston were patted down nearly every time BEFORE I even got there. There were plenty of times that the patient was "checked for weapons" while I was treating the patient in those instances where we got there first.
Pat down is the standard of care ! What happened to the head to toe examination and is the scene safe. I agree this should be used in future training for all EMS.
They also walked away and left the EMS and firefighter personnel with him after he was hyper hinky about being searched. They even let him keep digging in his pockets after he was being hinky about being patted down.
The horrible kind of person it takes to have your life saved by a group of people who are clearly only looking out for your well-being and to then try to kill them is all just beyond me. Great job to the officers and responders involved, wish things had turned out better for the EMT guy that was hit.
That dude was on morphine 😮 the drug was still in his blood and mind. Over dose…. Standard procedure police should check for any kind weapons on unconscious man or women for their own safety 😢
It tears me apart that three cops watched a guy pull his shirt up to reveal a gun they knew was there, clear the holster, cock and fire it before they reacted. It's like watching a car crash in slow motion.
They tried to check him before but he refused and of course they must have been worried to use force on a man who had literally been brought back from the verge of death. The officer actually expressed concern that he hadn’t been able to check him for weapons. But the officer didn’t know if the man had a gun or not and if he had died as a result of the officer forcefully searching him and no weapons had been found he would naturally be afraid of facing a manslaughter charge. And then look what happened. Even if he had tried to search the man earlier they would have faced the same problem that he would shoot rather than give up his gun
@@Zarbon000 but trying to pull a gun out of his pocket would have woken him up and definitely provoked him to shoot given how he behaved later and so would have been just as dangerous
@christophervaughan2637 they literally put an oxygen mask over his face and pushed him on his chest many times to wake him..... they should have checked him for a gun while he was out. Im sure the cop hates himself for it.... Pretty crazy the EMTs didnt see the gun though when they were doing all that to him....
@@jessekittrell2946 mmmm I see what you mean… yeah it must weigh on his mind. I saw a video where a cop didn’t really thoroughly check a suspect he arrested and took to the station. Then as he filled in the paper work the suspect took out a gun and shot the same arresting cop dead. It’s just that easy to slip up. One day you are work, tired or with other issues on your mind, and distractions, and it has disastrous consequences
So sad, he killed the paramedic who saved his life. He is the lowest form of life.
The cops pressed the issue way too much. If the cops weren't so adamant on searching him, he would have gone to the hospital with no incident.

Rest In Peace Mitch Lundgaard
_Mitch was a 14-year veteran of the Appleton Fire Department when he tragically lost his life in the line of duty. It started as a routine medical call at the city’s transit center, when a man who had been revived after a drug overdose opened fire on police officers and firefighters who had just saved his life. Mitch died of a gunshot wound to the chest._
_While Mitch had a passion for serving and helping those in need, his family was the most important thing in his life, and it was obvious to everyone who knew him. He loved taking his family to Disney World every year, and we think he even had more fun than the boys!_
_Being in good shape was important to Mitch. He spent a lot of time running and exercising. Right before he went on his last call, he convinced the guys at the station to try to do 100 Man-Makers (Cross Fit exercise). They had completed 50 when the call came in. They are now referred to as “Mitch-Makers” within the department and with many people in the Appleton area._
_In his free time, he loved to golf and watch Packer or Brewer games. Sunday afternoons at Lambeau Field was one of his favorite places to be! Go Pack Go!_
_During his career, Mitch spent eight years as a firefighter/inspector before returning to the line in January 2019 as a relief driver. He was posthumously promoted to driver/engineer._
_Mitch is missed every single day by his family, the fire department, and his friends. His legacy will live on forever within the community of Appleton_

You know how bad that would reflect the emergency services images if they were to leave a unhealthy man alone just like that? The consequences that'll follow? They would've been fired, the media would have a field day with that story.
@@Potandthekettle I was talking about the procedures that all three civil servant need to take, police, paramedics and firefighters
"the ONLY procedure they should be following".
Shame. The responders were so polite and professional too. RiP

Why did no one check him for weapons? Once drugs are involved, it raises the possibility of other illegal items.
