    PLEASE HELP!!!! UA-cam does NOT support my channel!! I am permanently demonetised; when people click on my videos, I don't make a single dollar. This channel runs on donations from my viewers for 100% !
    The type of content I make is very expensive and time consuming - such as filming the whole life cycles of butterflies and moths in captivity, which takes months of dedication! I am also an independent researcher, conservationalist, moth breeder and hobbyist, and the funds I raise online go towards my videos, my research & breeding projects that promote the importance and our knowledge of insects and other animals - on social media and in reallife! It helps me make videos, and it helps me help the insects I care about!
    Consider subscribing to my Patreon for as little as 1$ per month: / bartbutterflies - it massively helps! On Patreon, people can buy a subscription. Patrons also get unique rewards, like voting on content, personal FAQ videos, or participating in my videos once in a while.
    Send a single payment through PayPal: paypal.me/BartCoppens - consider it to be like a "tip" if you like my content. Through PayPal you can send a single donation, which will help me produce more videos.
    Send a tip through Ko-Fi: ko-fi.com/bart... - through this platform, users can send small finacial "tips" to support their favorite artists or creators.
    Want to donate with VISA or Credit Card? This is possible too, via LiberaPay, a trusted online platform. My LiberaPay is here: liberapay.com/...
    Did you know that I make custom merchandise such as cards, calendars and more with my moth & butterfly designs? The sales help my channel; find my Etsy shop here: www.etsy.com/s...
    Did you know that on Amazon.com there is a store where you can find ALL the equipment I use and recommend so that you can copy me? My cameras, my breeding equipment, everything! Find my Amazon storefront here: www.amazon.com...
    Patrons & People who have donated can expect to see their names in the credits of my videos sometimes, get shoutouts, or participate in events or special FAQ videos - on top of getting my gratitude of course. Your donation helps me research insects, and helps me spread love and knowledge for them world wide!
    I allow RANDOM followers to send me RANDOM items to my HOME ADRESS through Amazon Wish List! It's super interactive and fun - you can send me anything from video games, butterfly cages, books, energy drinks, breeding boxes, flower seeds for my butterflies, hot sauce, ramen noodles, silly outfits, memory cards, underwear.. it's crazy and hilarious! It is much more personal than donating money, because YOU decide the item I get!!
    ** Please Read How it Works Below! **
    There are TWO versions of my wish list on Amazon, a Dutch one and an American one. If you order through the Dutch website, the shipping costs are very low, because it is my home country! Sending me gifts through USA Amazon is much more expensive on shipping! However, both websites offer DIFFERENT types of items you can ship to me!
    LIST NUMBER 1: (Dutch Amazon) www.amazon.nl/...
    LIST NUMBER 2: (American Amazon) www.amazon.com...
    Anything you send me, I will show off on my channel in a video at some point! If you send me books I will read them! They are items I want or need for my channel, but also some silly things viewers can send me to mess with my life!
    I have a personal website about breeding moths that I am proud of. It has tips and caresheets for many moth species. Here is the link: breedingbutter...

    Want to e-mail me? It's possible, but I get a high amount of e-mails and spam, sadly, so sometimes I don't notice your message (sorry). My email is: bart.coppens@hotmail.com (do not abuse)
    Did you know I often chat with my fans, have meetups, and chat groups for entomologists? Find my communities here below!

    This is part of a 3-part series! I hope all the people watching this episode will consider watching Episode 1, 2 and 3. I also apologise if there are minor mistakes & if I had to leave some things out, the entire presentation is about 4 hours(!!) long and I made it all by myself. Believe it or not, this subject is so long and complex I could spend 10 hours talking about it, but that would be unrealistic! Due to time constraints I made it into a summary. Everything stated here is backed up however, by scientific literature I have read and interpreted. I am trying my best to make it as scientific as I can! I hope so. My content is often a little superficial [moth breeding] but in the future I want to make it more scientific and deeper. I'm new to this so forgive me if there are mistakes. But all the things I state in these presentations are backed up by sources and literature, so I hope to make it scientifically informed

    Comparing humans to insects at the beginning is kind of fallacious since humans are one species and insects are a group with millions of species. A more adopt comparison would be comparing insects to tetrapods (land vertebrates). Tetrapods are only slightly younger than insects in geologic time.

      Yeah I get it, some other people brought that up too, I just wanted to say they are really old compared to us to awe people, semantically it's not really something important

    If someone supports you via PayPal or Patrion do you receive all of the money or do they take a cut? If they do charge you (which I understand, everyone has to make a living) which one is best for you?

      Hello there Andy; if you are interested, I recommend using what is the most convenient for you! I believe the standard rate for PayPal processing fees is 2.9% and $0.30 per donation. Patreon charges a 5% platform fee, however Patreon is a monthly subscription while the Paypal link is a one-off non-recurring payment

    I like this series concept a lot and its nice that you obviously invested a lot of time in it; but how can you talk about evolution and already in the second minute of the video you give completely misleading informations. Maybe talk about body plans; but its just wrong that we didnt have any ancestors 400.000.000 years ago (or even earlier). Insects are a fascinating group and an exceptionally big group, but especially for someone like you who apparrently uses phylogeny often i dont understand why you would compare Insects and Hominini(?), thats like comparing Brassolini and Chelicerata; so whats your point? I hope this is constructive criticism; i like your videos a lot and thank you for your effort!

    • @BartCoppens
      @BartCoppens  3 роки тому

      Huh? I dont think I claimed those things? I think you misunderstood. I was comparing the timeframe in which Homo sapiens modernised to the time hexapods have been around. That doesn't mean they don't have any ancestors(?) I think you didnt understand the point. Why compare them? To make it engaging. It is only to put into perspective how long the evolutionary history of insects is compared to H. sapiens.

    • @BartCoppens
      @BartCoppens  3 роки тому

      It's a simple fact humans have been around for longer than humans; and my example illustrates they have been around much longer than the modern human. Just to put it into perspective. This does not imply we don't share ancestors with them or that our evolutionary history is shorter. If you thought that, maybe you failed to understand the point

    • @BartCoppens
      @BartCoppens  3 роки тому

      The point was to appeal to the imagination of the audience by illustrating how much longer insects have been around compared to us. It's a FACT(!!!) they have been way longer than ANY hominid. There is nothing wrong with using humans as an example, to capture the imagination. If your conclusion is that we didn't have any ancestors, you are the one that is wrong. Maybe you have a wrong idea of phylogeny and evolution?

      @@BartCoppens But those Insects from 400.000.000 years ago are not closer related to extant insect species than we are to our ancestors 400 mil. years ago; so its exactly how you said, you wanted to make it engaging; but this message carries almost no information. Of course is an extant tribus like hominini (Im not talking about hominidae; this group is a bit older than 6 mil. years) much younger than a big clade like Insecta; the really engaging fact however is, that some body plans of those early insects were succesful enough to such a degree that some of their ancestors kept them til this day. And I'm kinda disappointed that you dont even consider the fact that you are comparing taxons of different "ranks" which in itself is a very difficult topic. For example i could just say; the evolutionary history of deuterostomia (which includes humans) dates back to 540 mil. years, comparing that to the group of insecta which is only 400 mil. years old really shows how old they are. You see this is pointless, because I'm comparing taxons of different "ranks" and also ancestors of the whole group insecta existed at that time; this ancestor was just not the ancestor of only insects, but other extant or extinct groups aswell.

    • @xenophilos8360
      @xenophilos8360 3 роки тому

      @@BartCoppens You said "...these silly creatures are humans, their evolutionary history dates back about 6 mil. years ago..."; but you cant say the group hominini is the group of humans if you dont say a chimp is a human too; so your not even talking about the genus Homo or even our species and "our" evolutionary history dates back much further, if you count every ancestor from us as "us". To put into perspective how long the evolutionary history of insects is compared to a single extant species is not really engaging or surprising; its pointless; like if you would say the evolutionary history of the species Polistes gallicus dates back a lot less further than of the group Malacostraca; surprise, surprise. I'm not here to defend the non existent "honor" of humanity, but to criticise your presentation of phylogeny and age of groups. And again I really like what your doing on your channel; i just disagree with what you said in this video and you havent really changed that yet.

      I'm sorry about that, I will work on making it more entertaining :) I guess I am paranoid about copyright strikes, so the reminder is to discourage people from doing that. It's within my right to use these images but I'm still paranoid
