I think they let him talk most of the time because he's the song writer and most of the questions Steven asked were about the lyrics. Based on Billie Joe's body language, you can tell he's nervous when he's being interviewed, so it's not something he enjoys. Most of the time in interviews, the interviewer will ask the singer most of the questions. Steven gave Billie Joe a lot of eye contact which made him answer first.
We don't know the full story. And he doesn't owe us the full story. It's his life. He's been sober for 4 years now. He's better and that's all that matters.
