Great review! JBL Multibeam 5.0 has a Night Mode, pressing the mute button for 5seconds and then the - minus button. Makes dynamic compression lot better.
Browsing for reviews on the JBL as it is half off and looking for a quality PC speaker at a decent price. Already have a Beam 1 and a Beam 2 and love them both but those are cost prohibitive in this application. Great review and your assessment is spot on, as usual. I could clearly hear the difference in your samples. I think the real difference is DSP. Sonos uses it extensively and I would assume JBL goes for a more natural sound. Although that dedicated tweeter also makes a huge difference on the Beam. I know this is an older review on basically retired products, but I still found it relevant and helpful. Thank you!
Great review! I just bought the Samsung HW-q600a due to currently being in a country with no real options. I found it to be surprisingly adequate and for the price it offers good value. I would love to see a comparison with any other mid-range standalone soundbar or one with the option of a subwoofer to see how it stacks up.
Good review, thank you. But instead of using 'beam' vs 'multibeam' throughout the video, 'Sonos' vs 'JBL' wud have made it so much easier to follow.. I was lost half the time keeping up which is which..
Sonos seems to have a richer sound and the EQ adjustment is a big plus. I went for the Sonos Beam and added the Sonos Sub and 2 Symfonisk as rears for the office/game room LG OLED 55C1. I like the Sonos sound a little better than my Nakamichi 7.2.4 system on my LG OLED 77C1 in the family room. The expansion option was huge bonus compared to stand alone systems. Added a 2nd Beam to M. bedroom LG OLED 55C9 with another set of Symfonisk speakers and 2 Sonos Roams to place around the house, yard, or travel as needed.
@@neverenoughtech No, I have two Gen 1 Beams I purchase at the start of summer. Without having upward firing speakers, I don't think the Gen 2 Beam would that noticeable of a difference over the Gen 1 Beam? Sonos is smart enough to do a software update to add additional front One SL speakers to the Beam for improved surround and/or Atmos. Same software update to add up to 4 rear speakers also.
Will admit the beam gen 2 has great sound but no dtsx no extra HDMI no remote and requires the restrictive Sonos environment to be connected at all times or the sound bar won't work No thanks
Man, I was so impressed with the JBL features until it went to the sound comparison. The Sonos sounded better overall which is the most important reason to buy a sound bar.
Thanks to tour review! Can I Ask you, you says that bass is great, but between this bar (JBL or beam 2) is that better than a sony G700 who have a dedicated subwoofer?
I love the jbl. I'm sure the Sonos is "better" in some sense but I am glad I have something that's really good and clear and just one unit. Got it second hand for under €200.
my brother had a beam...the audio was unnaturally bass heavy in a way that can't quite be corrected. I haven't heard the JBL...but i have long since ruled out the Sonos.
Hi. Got the jbl 5.0, great comparison review by the way.. I was just wondering, is it nornal that the upper left part tend to get hot when I touch it? The panel between the power button and the upward firing speaker grill.. thanks in advance
Well honestly I don't know how to feel about it. The sound quality left me neutral. I come from a 2.1 Logitech (z623?) from around 13 years ago and I can't tell I hear an upgrade in sound quality.
Hi I have an older soundbar (12 years old Yamaha Yas 101) that is connected to my tv via optical. Will there be a big difference with this soundbar instead...i have arc but no Earc connection on my tv.
Yes expect a different kind of experience … the regular ARC port can still play atmos content from Netflix and other streaming services. Though I’m not sure which bar you are considering as I’m showing off two
Bro you can't even compare If you see the subwoofer from the 5.1 how big It's crazy!! The Sound is crazy. jbl 5.0 and sonos are little kids in compare with the 5.1
Easy choice....JBL Multibeam 5.0 all the way! Sounds fantastic for it's price! It crushes soundbars that are twice as expensive! Very nice deep bass without sub, very wide soundstage, perfect center channel intelligibility, everything is perfectly balanced. Besides movies, music concerts also sounds fantastic!

Newer beam gen2 might be better but has no remote and requires Sonos environment that it needs to constantly bee connected to just to work.Plus no extra HDMI no thanks.
The concave top of the Beam is to prevent the TV image reflecting on it, being distracting.
JBL BAR 300 now replaces the 5.0 multibeam. 4 drivers and 2 tweeters, voice enhancement, customizable EQ via the JBL One app.
Got the 5.0 for 188 bucks

You basically did two reviews in one and did a better job than most doing one. You covered all aspects that I would want to know about.
You heard about the Sonos Beam Gen 2??
Got my review out just in time

Bass is better than you would expect from a small sound bar. Does not compete with a dedicated subwoofer.

Plz do Much recommended bose smart 600 soundbar review compare with sonos beam
love the Multibeam! but I do seem to notice the Bass drowning out the dialogue during action scenes a bit. is this solvable by bringing down the bass?
Does it offer dialogue enhancer?
Music quality comparison definitely gives more deepness and details to Sonos

Do a review on the LG eclair.

Don't bother the center speaker dialogue is low on the eclair unless cranked way up and it sounds weird in some movies

The jbl multibeam is for someone who wants a top quality sound bar without extra speakers. As a standalone bar its really good.
JBL 9.1 still rocks.
