Keeping Rustinox happy. Heh Heh because of you mentioning him one day in your old shop I have been watching him. Michel is a very humorous and clever fellow. well worth watching. Like you!
Just had a "why didn't I think of that?" moment! Time to make extra keys for my big vee blocks so I can use them in the SYIL X5 as well as on the Bridgeport. Thanks for the inspiration Max.
Enjoyed the machining Max. Good job you got the material to entertain us before the new year. Very nice fit those keys, you make it look easy. If only. ATB Tony
Cheers Max, thanks for the excellent instruction and showing detailed set ups. Also the lamination defect was very interesting. Happy New Year to you and yours, I hope 2025 is a brilliant year for you.
Hi Max, Can I wish you and yours a very happy and prosperous new year. I have really enjoyed our back and forth conversations this year and look forward to more in the new year. Best wishes, Mal.
Thanks for the video and best wishes to you. Still many more of your videos for me to watch, still catching up on the old ones when I can. Nice looking vee blocks. I mix my “Martian purée” half and half with water, seems to be better at getting to where it needs to be and doubles the amount of fun per dollar…………love the tail stock chuck. Cheers.
The Joys of Christmas Freight. Had a win here too my new Mill arrived in the Melbourne Docks on the 18th and squeaked its way into town late Friday by some sort of Christmas miracle. Now to find the remaining space to de-crate for a looksee and start making a frame for it so I can really play. Happy New Year to all 🎉
What great video work. The workflow with your comments is first rate man and machine. Thank you Max for the instruction as the year now past. Hope it's fair to a new season, new year. Regards from Washington state, US. M.
Great set-up and procedures, nicely done, good catch, and analysis on the steel lamination defect; as you say it's quite common on steels, can be just sent out anyway by the Mills. Ref milling cutters, I've been using Powder Metallurgy (PM) 3 to 5 flute cutters, less rigid than carbide, but harder the HSS, cost is midway. Spot on on oblique cutting using facemills. Great video Max, and maybe I wish you and your family a Safe 2025.
Hey Max! Great to see ya! Just watched the gift box reveal and it was great. You do great instructional work and I always stay up way too late watching 😂. Cheers 😊
Hi Max, laminated steel, used to catch out our techs doing ultrasonic thickness testing in the refinery. Quick setup for the Vee blocks, definite time saver.
Happy New Year to you Max. Thanks for posting a proper video for us, instead of the shortish ones others are doing. The UK 🇬🇧 pretty well shuts down these days between Christmas and New Year, trying to get any materials and tooling is almost impossible.
Great to watch just after Christmas - thanks Max!!! Really useful information on the centring of the work in the fixed steady to stop the workpiece coming out of the jaws of the chuck. My only complaint is that you didn't do this a couple of weeks ago as I had exactly that happen to me (for the first time) and couldn't work out what the problem was...... Please get your timing right in the future!!! Cheers mate, have a great New Year!
Well g'day Max, just back from my shop, mucking about with my twin cam, and here you are! 40:58 whats the little lathe behind you Max? Fantastic wind down to my weekend mate, thanks so much for sharing, heres to a great one 🎉
G'day Max. Excellent video from start to finish. "V" blocks looked better than store bought 😅😊. Great setups with the larger diameter solid round steel ( pins ) in the lathe as well as in the "V" blocks. Extra sharp drill bits did the job The new pins, are they 4140 ? Have a Great & Prosperous New Year 2025, & be safe to You & Your Family. 🎉 💸 💵 💲 🤑
Have a safe, happy & prosperous new years Max. I do need to make both V blocks & Angle plates for the Bridgeport one day. Finding the material is the issue.
when you were using the face mill on Olga there was a very noticeable chip as the trailing side went over. Does the old girl need a tram ? What do you think was causing that
No , the head is square . May be a little wear in spindle bearings . Usually only shows up with the larger face mill . You can off set the tram to get rid of it . 👍
Thanks for the videos Max. Couldn't help but notice that the 100 mill. dia face cutter was cutting on the backside. Isn't that a sign that the head needs to be trammed in ... or ... the spindle bearings are worn? See you in the new year !!
Hot rolled material can get striations, common when the steel has cooled too much when heading into the forming rollers. Edit: Merry Christmas and happy new year!
The stuff has it's issues , it sets solid when left in the air . You have to clean your tooling off straight away . My go to is WD40 with a dash of Rocol in a jar . The mix seems to stay around the cutting edge . 👍
No advantage as far as i have experienced . My go to is WD40 with a dash of Rocol . The Anchorlube will set solid on the tools if not cleaned off straight away . 👍

Always impressed with amou t of steel removed. Wouldn't want to see a cutter failure. Such machines need plenty of respect.

Does that Martian puree really work as well as it's claimed Max? I've pretty well stuck with Rocol RTD, but its a bit heavy on the costs.
Max seems to like the Martian marzipan. I certainly think with stainless steel at least RTD is quieter and smoother.
The stuff has it's issues , it sets solid when left in the air . You have to clean your tooling off straight away . My go to is WD40 with a dash of Rocol in a jar . The mix seems to stay around the cutting edge . 👍

whats the advantage of the martin creme v good old cutting oil ?
No advantage as far as i have experienced . My go to is WD40 with a dash of Rocol . The Anchorlube will set solid on the tools if not cleaned off straight away . 👍
I stopped using the Martian Snot Max, if you miss a bit when cleaning up afterwards, you end up with rust spots. Shame, as it works well.
And it goes crusty ! 👍
Normally, fufkka wouldn't be permitted, but as all in Oz know, Fukka is a technical term..
