Last chapter. Current page 796. 10 years after the end of my story, two characters, teenagers back then, are now welcoming their twins in the world. It's been two years since I started writing and I was always picturing this beautiful scene in my mind. It felt like an imaginary scenario. God knows how many times I wanted to give up on my book. So many times... but I didn't. Now I'm here, writing my final chapter with tears in the eyes. Whoever you are, whatever your goal, stick to it. The satisfaction you will derive in the end is incomparable.

    • @lorenalori7938

Exactly. Even if it's already written by someone else or it isn't considered a good idea by all of people you know, if that it's what you like and care about, this is what you should write. Even if no-one reads it. The fact that you put your all and yourself into it, i personally think this is enough. At least, art shouldn't become something only commercial. And i am so sad when i see that a lot of people do things that they don't like or care about only to be sold.

I was just looking for some music to ease my mind so that I could write since I've been in a writer's block for so long. But then I saw this comment and it enlightened some confusion I always tried myself understanding just because I really love writing, and I guess maybe because I was so into pushing or more like forcing myself to write one, and it's just for the sake of me thinking if I did one I'll be feeling productive. But, it shouldn't be pointed or define writing as such, it's more about expressing yourself than to make it as some standard to make me feel satisfied.

Recently I've been feeling a lot of anxiety about my book, I haven't been feeling the same enthusiasm for the story and characters that I used to. I've been debating if my skills are enough to write the story how I want it. I have to keep telling myself over and over that I'm still only in High School, I still have a whole life ahead of me that I can use to find the momentum that I need to write this book. It frustrates me because I had this entire plan thought out and now that I'm nearing the end I'm realizing that I don't like how it came out. To me, it feels like a 13 year old could write it better than I have. I've been so excited to reach the second stage (or part) of my story but even though it's close, it feels too far away. I always give people advice to write what they love, give each of their ideas a chance if they feel like they are good enough, and sometimes even the ones that disappoint them. It's easy to tell that to someone in the comments of a UA-cam video, but incredibly difficult to tell that to yourself. I've beaten myself over the head numerous times on this subject and I just want to say that if you do read this, write. Try your hardest and don't fall behind. I may not be able to use this advice myself but it feels good that it might help somebody else in the world. Good luck, and I hope to see more work on the shelves soon!!!

I know exactly how you feel Aralei. And let me tell you, it's an entirely valid feeling. But you've got to keep going. You should know in advance that YES, the first draft will suck. It will be awful. It'll make you want to quit. And once you understand that it's just a fact of life that 99% of writing happens that way... you'll feel liberated.
The magic happens in the edit. So give yourself permission to continue. Feel free to write as crappy and uninspired as you want. Getting the words and ideas out on paper (or screen) will help you fine-tune things. Edit things. Change things around. And I promise you. Every draft will be a little bit better... and if you keep pushing... you'll end up with something that's actually good. 😃

You were walking through the beautiful forest, with beautiful greenery. It was night, and the area surrounding you was lit up by the stars shimmering in the night sky, and the glowing, buzzing fireflies around you. You eventually found a waterfall. It flowed down the hillside calmingly, sound so ever gentle. As you stepped over to the small, shallow pond at the end of the waterfall, you suddenly noticed something behind the water gently flowing down. What was it? It was an animal, for sure. It had a long snout, and it was fluffy. It tail looked soft, too. Although not much could be seen from the blurriness of the water, you could still make those very few details. Could it be a cat, perhaps? Or maybe a fox? As you crept closer, surprisingly, the creature didn’t move slightly. As you waded past the waterfall, you could see it now. It was..a white fox. But they live on the snowy mountains. What would an arctic fox be doing in the warm forest? Wait.. you could see it now. The fox, it was a female. It had a pup underneath its paw. The pup was a newborn, born last week. They live on the mountains, so why were they here? Could they have been hungry? It’s winter, after all. You gently crept towards it, facing the palm of your hand upwards, to show gentleness, and kindness. The fox did not move, not an inch. You decided to slowly move away from the fox. You went to a berry bush, ripe with berries, then returned to the fox. You have the fox, and her pup, the berries. The fox, was so fluffy she looked like a cloud. She had warm, gentle blue eyes. She looked at you, and gave her pup to you. Surprised, you looked at the tiny foxs’ detailes. She was a orange, sunset colour. Her tail faded into pink, just like an afternoon sunset. Eyes green, like the forestation around you. You now realised this fox pup you were holding was not a regular fox. Not an Arctic one, either.
(I promise I’ll finish the story if you guys like it so far! I’m a bit tired right now though, haha. Have a good night/day!)

It isn't necessarily happy or sad or melancholy or angry, but kind of just is. It is kind of perfect for that just creative brainstorming phase of storywriting, you know? I’ve been working on a story for 7 years now. Many dead ends, many rewrites, many friends made along the way. There are times when I am embarrassed of the time it took for the little progress made.
I realize now, it’s a shame if I stop. Not an embarrassment. The years spent writing are years I’ll cherish and, if life permits, continue to do. The years spent writing are not lazy days, but weeks and months of obsessive determination. It’s not an embarrassment at all, and it’s a shame if I stop because I can’t just let something like that die.
If you are a quick writer, I truly admire you. I wish I could conceive, flesh out, and refine a story in months.
    I cannot.
I am a slow writer and I believe there are many others out there. Please, do not let time grip your shoulder. Be slower, if you wish. More methodical and more nitpicky. Extend the deadline and be proud that you kept an idea alive for, as in my case, entire chapters of life.
This is as much a personal rant as it was for any others worried about inkless pages. It will happen and damn all the rest.
    Thanks for reading :)

I'm 16 with a big story in the works but for a warm up (my keyboard hasnt been working so I havent been able to write) I plan on writing a story about a character I always make in rpgs and in literally every game I can. His name his Tomalio, its a name that I've been using since I was 9, thats 7 almost 8 years! So far the only thing I have had in common between all the games I have made this character is that he has white hair, either red or grey eyes, and he's a swordsman. I think once I write a story about him though I will feel a much greater connection when I make him in games because I can imagine a backstory!

Hoping to complete the last chapter of my most loved story by the end of the day.

I've been writing stories since I was a child, but as I got older I became harder on myself. I loved the ideas I came up with and I have hundreds just sitting in my mind, but when it comes to writing them I feel exhausted. The mental strain I put on myself to write, the writer's block, the poor motivation, all of it just became too much. I've started and abandoned so many stories. But recently I've decided to try again. I've planned out my characters, a few chapters and maladaptive daydreamed some ideas to songs. And now, I've started to write it. I'm only on my first chapter and listening to this helps me focus. I keep being so hard on myself. I've wanted to give up so many times and I'm only on page 4 (863 words in), but I want to keep going too. I thought maybe if I leave a comment here, knowing that other people know of my story, then I can use this to "force" myself to push on. If people know I'm working on something, it'll be disappointing to let them down and give up right? So I'm going to push on. Do what I can. I keep reading the quote in the video "you'll know when you get there. For now, just keep typing". I'm trying to ingrain it in my mind. I will keep updating this comment in the replies and hope that it helps another writer out there. One thing I need to tell myself and that I want other writers to tell themselves too is that it is okay to start bare. It is okay to start without a title, without fleshed out descriptive paragraphs. Write a step by step of how you want the chapter to go on notepad or something, then flesh it out a bit in your actual story. Then go onto the next chapter. Once your story is finished and you have the "skeleton", add the muscles (the description, the detail, etc) and skin (the title, summary, etc). Start with the skeleton. Always start with the skeleton. You'll exhaust yourself if you try to do the skeleton, muscles and skin all at once. And remember that its okay to take a break. Whether its a week, a month or a year. So long as you keep your notes, you can always pick up your story again.
Edit 10/4/2023 (D/M/Y): Day after posting a comment here. Currently at 5 pages and 1616 words. Not much progress, still on chapter one, but I'm still going.
Edit 11/4/2023: The external hard drive my current story was saved on, along with all my stories and plannings of the past couple of years, isn’t working. Fatal Hard Drive error. I’m crushed. I lost all my notes, names, the 1000+ words, etc. Im trying so hard to fix this, but it seems to be unrecoverable. If I can’t get it back, I guess it’s a sign I’m not meant to write stories anymore. I’ll update.
Edit 20/6/2023: I got my drive data back a little while ago. I had given up but started planning another story. Now I have my old story back I’m confused and torn between which to focus on. I think I’ll focus on my old one. My old one (that one I was working on in my og comment) is animal fantasy, like Watership down or warrior cats. The new one is supernatural fantasy. New one has a lot of action scenes that would be difficult for me to write whereas the old one is more simple and straightforward. Action is minimal, no extreme battles planned. I have real life animals as references. Etc. Might be lazy of me to go the easy route but I don’t want to overwork my brain and I really think my idea could be good. And during my time planning for my new story idea I’ve learnt some new things that could work for my old one. As usual, I’ll update.
Edit 24/9/2023: I am not actively working on my old story idea, as there were issues that messed up my brain and led to me feeling demotivated. Instead I am working on my supernatural fantasy one and it is going well. A few roadblocks here and there, but I've planned out a prologue and two chapters. Currently planning out chapter 3.

Well it won't. Which is why we are often either very misunderstood or very respected. I feel the same now, but remembering the reason behind writing is a strategy I often use.
I also keep a note in my Main character's name, once I see it, I forget the whole world and start writing. Because, after all, we aren't doing this to gain anyone's respect or pride, we're doing this to ourselves, and to our characters. THAT is our duty as writers!

I am so sorry for your loss. Also, I like how you're pretty calm about it. Not that I'm underestimating the pain you feel. Happy it helped you just as it helped nearly everyone in the comments!

It has been two years since I started writing. I am happy that I had chosen my childhood aim as my leisure time. It's a satisfaction to bring an imaginary world into a book. Sometimes, it helps to forget all the pain inside you. All the best to all of my fellow writers.

This... Helped me a lot with my book. It makes me feel good. This music makes me say: ''This book is going to be awesome!'' But a lot of people were saying that I would never be good at it. It was like that every day. But this music helped me a lot from these bullies. I hope that some people will read my book. And I'm sure that they will be impressed. I hope you read this because I just want to say one thing... Thank you.
