Whenever you started playing, Minecraft updates have changed the game substantially over the years, and that means there are some features that have been left in the past. Oh and to those of you asking how long this video took to make because G was streaming in the google chrome bits - I recorded it through the course of a day. Those screen capture elements were added while franticly trying to edit this video as I left it to the last minute (as usual 🤟)

Yep thought i started playing in 2013 but then i realised i startes in the very orignal version and game with just grass and cobblestone. Ahhhh im so glad i grew up with dat but dammm minecraft today is soooo much better

107: Iron golems still hold out poppies. They do it with child villagers, and it is the cutest thing.

I used sugarcane, but it was somewhere around 1.4 or something like that when I played a lot. I should get back into playing, there seems to be so much new cool stuff nowadays.

Yeh, I remember all of these. I started roughly around the time the Nether was released. That thing you mentioned about beaches and snow being together REALLY brought back memories for me…good times. Then again, Minecraft’s come a long way and a lot of cool things have been added since I’ve joined. Time flies.

I fell in love with 1.7 because they added the sprint key, which made me super happy. I still love that key to this day. I also feel real nostalgic for old adventure maps that had no command blocks but also for a lot of old ones that used to be super impressive for their use like City of Love from Jigarbov

I remember when stairs wouldn’t connect at corners so if you were trying to make a roof with corners you’d have to use regular blocks
omg yes this was so annoying.
I never realized it but for minecraft on my xbox 360 I never updated it from the 2012 version so I was stuck building roofs and stairs with wonky corners lol

I started when minecraft still had a “trial” version I ran it on a Pc that could barley hold it at 10fps but I fell in love with the game watching this really brought back the original days, but boy am I glad it changed..
I remember having that bad glass texture back when I started playing this game back in 2012, I am SO glad that is no longer the texture cause now I can actually look through my windows without having to make panes!

I played it for about 3 years when it first came out (well abt 6 months after release) then when the LAN parties my then-boyfriend-now-husband organised (100+ people) stopped I kinda stopped gaming all together but the itch would come back but I couldn't find my old account and broke me never bought it again until COVID-19 hit and I got serious back issues that even prevented me from walking for a while so my hubby bought it after numerous attempts to retrieve the old account. And ehm yeah, kind of hooked and play it all the time. Back is slowly improving so hopefully I'll be able to use my pc instead of my laptop in bed and I can really play properly with no drifting mouse, no keyboard slip-n-slide and ergonomically better. In the meantime I just love creative mode stuff, listening and watching your and Grian's videos and enjoying the fun the hermits get up to.
Fun fact actually the iron golems holding flowers are actually a reference to studio Ghibli’s first feature length film, cult classic 1986 anime film castle in the sky where they have their iconic scene where a Laputian robot gives Sheeta a flower

This game has changed so much since Alpha, just picked it up again now after a few years. So many cool and amazing features has been added.
In the cords, the nether used to be stated as “Hell” when looking at biomes and the End was “Sky”.
Alice Bradley which makes no sense because when you fall off of the end you don’t hit the ground, you fall into the void.

Things I remember from OG minecraft:
Your world was either all snowy, or no snow. There was no in between.
Pistons were a mod which blew everyone's minds - prior to the mod, everything was just decorative and nothing moved (except sand and gravel)
The old fire mechanics. One spark could destroy an entire forest, it just never stopped burning and spread crazy fast

You forgot the satisfaction when there was snow on sand and it still exist today i think
I remember everyone being disappointed in the real pistons when they were added, because the mod pistons could be used to launch you or launch sand or gravel.

4:02 Y'all remember Cube Creator? I had it on my Nintendo 3ds, because it was the only Minecraft-like game on a Nintendo system at the time (which is why I was kind of miffed when they added Minecraft for the switch). It certainly wasn't on Minecraft's level but it was a decent quality game, and it had its own physics and concepts and whatnot. It definitely had its quirks (animals didn't swim, they just stood at the bottom of water, if you lost your stuff it was gone for good and the game kept telling you to go find it, and every resource was limited) but I still had a fun time with it. Darn, I'm getting nostalgic. I should go play some Cube Creator...

back when there was a demo version of minecraft, i remember replaying it over and over again. they only gave you 20 minutes, so i would delete it and redownload it every time

And I remember when placing two half slabs on each other, then mining it, would give you the actual full block instead of 2 half slabs.
And half slab planks somehow where quicker to mine with a pickaxe than with an axe (and also made the same sound as mining stone did)

Damn I really am old nowadays.. I remember classic coming out when I was in high school.. I remember also smelting ores by throwing them in lava with popcorn smelting. You'd build a kickass furnace with lava you found underground. No buckets either you had to build your smelting room in the molten room
I used to play in like 2014 (idk if that's old) and I remember playing on this server called zombie manic and it had this SMP type of thing were you spawn in and around you, you see this kind of anarchy server type of environment around you and then the further away you got, you could see it being more normal and it just brings back good memories of young me playing with my MC friends and I kind of wish I got to talk to them again

I’m playing an HQM mod, Regrowth, that is based on MC version 1.9 and boats can break of chunk lag! Not funny when big parts of the map in endless water and you take drowning damage almost immediately (drowning thing is part of the mod). You learn to have an extra boat always on you.

I remember when Minecraft hadn't added rails into pocket edition yet. I had seen a friend use them in java and decided that I could do that too. I instead made a tunnel and just put ladders on the walls and called it a day.

That was 1.9
meanwhile I played on ps3 and that was never something I could do, the moment ladders were added in they had to be a solid line to climb them.
It wasn't really a savings. They were more expensive to craft.

The simulation of the drowning effects, oh gosh, I do remember that. Water physics used to be *horrible,* and it's no accident that the newer swimming mechanics are part of why I've fallen back in love with surviving in this game.

Ah yes I still remember I've been playing before nether reactor cores was even a thing
I still remember the first time I played Minecraft when I was like 12. I had no idea what I was doing, and it was so much fun. My first base was in a jungle biome. I made a little hole in a hill and had like two or three wheat growing out front. I remember having to google the crafting recipe for a door. Good times.
I think my favorite update was when hoppers were added to the game. That’s the one I remember being the most excited for, anyways.

Not only did this remind me of old Minecraft, but it reminds me of the UA-camrs I used to watch. I still remember watching Stampy and how he made his world before jungle biomes.

0:22 true, I would always get lapis to put in my collection. Now, I have a chest near my enchanting room dedicated for lapis.
Also, lapis literally was the blue dye. You would use lapis to dye things blue, instead of there being a item called blue dye.
