The Power of Thanksgiving Psalms 92:1-3, 10-15 It is good to give thanks to the LORD, and to sing praises to Your name, O Most High; 2 To declare Your lovingkindness in the morning, And Your faithfulness every night, 3 On an instrument of ten strings, on the lute, and on the harp, with harmonious sound. 10But my horn You have exalted like a wild ox; I have been anointed with fresh oil. 11 My eye also has seen my desire on my enemies; my ears hear my desire on the wicked Who rise up against me. 12 The righteous shall flourish like a palm tree, he shall grow like a cedar in Lebanon. 13 Those who are planted in the house of the LORD shall flourish in the courts of our God. 14 They shall still bear fruit in old age; they shall be fresh and flourishing, 15 To declare that the LORD is upright; He is my rock, and there is no unrighteousness in Him. NKJV I. What makes thanksgiving powerful A. Thanksgiving paves the way for fresh impact Psalms 89:20-24 I have found My servant David; with My holy oil I have anointed him, 21 With whom My hand shall be established; also My arm shall strengthen him. 22 The enemy shall not outwit him, nor the son of wickedness afflict him. 23 I will beat down his foes before his face, and plague those who hate him. 24 "But My faithfulness and My mercy shall be with him, and in My name his horn shall be exalted. NKJV B. It is the key to your supernatural victories 2 Chronicles 20:22-24 Now when they began to sing and to praise, the LORD set ambushes against the people of Ammon, Moab, and Mount Seir, who had come against Judah; and they were defeated. 23 For the people of Ammon and Moab stood up against the inhabitants of Mount Seir to utterly kill and destroy them. And when they had made an end of the inhabitants of Seir, they helped to destroy one another. 24 So when Judah came to a place overlooking the wilderness, they looked toward the multitude; and there were their dead bodies, fallen on the earth. No one had escaped. NKJV C. Multiplication answers to gratitude John 6:6-13 But this He said to test him, for He Himself knew what He would do. 7 Philip answered Him,"Two hundred denarii worth of bread is not sufficient for them, that every one of them may have a little." 8 One of His disciples, Andrew, Simon Peter's brother, said to Him, 9 "There is a lad here who has five barley loaves and two small fish, but what are they among so many?" 10 Then Jesus said, "Make the people sit down." Now there was much grass in the place. So the men sat down, in number about five thousand. 11 And Jesus took the loaves, and when He had given thanks He distributed them to the disciples, and the disciples to those sitting down; and likewise of the fish, as much as they wanted. 12 So when they were filled, He said to His disciples, "Gather up the fragments that remain, so that nothing is lost." 13 Therefore they gathered them up, and filled twelve baskets with the fragments of the five barley loaves which were left over by those who had eaten. NKJV D. Thanksgiving establishes you in the house of God. Psalms 92:13 Those who are planted in the house of the LORD shall flourish in the courts of our God. NKJV E. Sustainable fruitfulness Psalms 92:14 They shall still bear fruit in old age; They shall be fresh and flourishing, NKJV II. Why must you give thanks A. The breath in your nostrils has its root in God. (Psa 150:6) B. Every good thing in your life has its source in God. (James 1:17) C. A man can receive nothing except it be given him from above. (John 3:27) D. Everything people marvel at in your life is the Lord’s doing. (Psa 118:23) E. By strength shall no man prevail. (Rom 9:16) III. What are the dangers of ingratitude • Ingratitude hands you over to your enemies Deuteronomy 28:47-48 "Because you did not serve the LORD your God with joy and gladness of heart, for the abundance of everything, 48 therefore you shall serve your enemies, whom the LORD will send against you, in hunger, in thirst, in nakedness, and in need of everything; and He will put a yoke of iron on your neck until He has destroyed you. NKJV • Every glory turns into shame Malachi 2:1-3 "And now, O priests, this commandment is for you. 2 If you will not hear, and if you will not take it to heart, To give glory to My name," Says the LORD of hosts, "I will send a curse upon you, and I will curse your blessings. Yes, I have cursed them already, because you do not take it to heart. 3 "Behold, I will rebuke your descendants and spread refuse on your faces, the refuse of your solemn feasts; and one will take you away with it. NKJV • Destruction Acts 12:21-23 So on a set day Herod, arrayed in royal apparel, sat on his throne and gave an oration to them. 22 And the people kept shouting, "The voice of a god and not of a man!" 23 Then immediately an angel of the Lord struck him, because he did not give glory to God. And he was eaten by worms and died. NKJV IV. Enemies of gratitude • Covetousness- Nothing is ever enough to the covetous. Always remember that nothing multiplies until thanksgiving is engaged. • Murmuring- In the natural world, murmuring attracts sympathy from people but in the kingdom of Christ, it attracts judgement from God. Murmuring will keep you at the same spot if it doesn’t destroy you. • Pride- The proud always think that their success is all because of their input. They never remember that they are what they are by the grace of God. Jesus shed his blood seven times seven different places 1.
