    She’s telling you the truth about calendula.
    I made calendula salve way back in the 1990s. I saw that stuff heal everything from diaper rash to bedsores.
    I made the calendula into a glycerin tincture and added the tincture into petroleum jelly and stir with a toothpick or novelty ice cream stick

      Its true! I swear by this plant for healing. Half my face was ripped off in an accident and this plant healed my face like it almost never happened. I would NEVER have believed it if I didn't do it myself.

    So good Morag, you make it easy to understand.I have made a balm using these instructions, of hemp & comfrey infused sweet almond oils, adding a couple drops frankinsence & lavender oils, using beeswax from my neighbour’s hive which still had honey in it, smell8ng delicious.I'm next making Calendula oil simply & plainly without any extra additives, for my daughter in law to use as nappy cream. Thank you so much, you are lovely. 🌼

Some will go to my daughters for themselves & their children, & to my daughter in law, for herself & her baby. Thank you so much! 😊 💛🌼

    So thank you. I have been learning about herbalism and plant uses for a long time. Cold infusion, I will now look into deeper. I didn't think "wet" plant material could go into oils, assuming it would spoil.

    hello, i'm going to be making this in a bit using hemp oil instead of coconut oil also plan on adding maybe a tbsp of cottonwood bud oil that i have infused. I grew Calendula this summer specifically to make myself face salve so was happy to find this I might also add that tsp of shea butter since I want it a bit softer and i don't have cocoa butter . If it goes well i'll be back to let you know.

    If you like to experiment, you can make small batches in the microwave on half power. Use a Pyrex custard cup and do it half power in 20 second increments. Stir with a chopstick in between. Then pour in an old jar.

    Lovely video full of great info! I would personally not use fresh flowers as I feel they contain too much water for my purposes. I also dont use olive oil as it contains too much plant matter and can go rancid so easily. Seed oils have much less fleshy content. You can also use the “gelling” test to be sure you’ve got a good ratio of solids to oil by dropping a bit of the warm finished product onto a cold surface to be sure it will set up properly.

    I'm very curious. I really want to grow calendula. But how do i know what seeds to buy. The last ones I bought were marrigold seeds which don't look like calendula seeds I've seen before. Some people said they were the same thing. Are they healing properties the same or are they two different plants.

Because now its so solid and stiff that it's very difficult to scrap a tiny amount onto my finger to put on my skin. gently remelt it and add some more oil - either coconut or calendula. When it sets it should be much smoother. You could also add a bit more of the cacao butter too.

      Pretty sure bees wax IS 'vegan'.
      Bees produce the wax but it's not exact FROM them. You're not using bee parts. Only the nectar they collect from flowers. And they collect waaaaaaay too much for themselves. That's why we can take what we do.

    Great video, Morag!
    I'm curious: is the coconut oil an essential ingredient? In other words, would a salve made up of 3/4 cup infused oil + 1/4 cup wax give good results? I imagine the coconut oil contributes to the texture.

    • @acebuggers2744
      @acebuggers2744 6 років тому

      I believe the coconut oil is needed, if not using coconut oil, another type of oil in its place would be needed. Beeswax and olive oil would probably be too thick and sticky and may not even meld together properly without the coconut oil. Just my thoughts.

    • @MoragGambleOurPermacultureLife
      @MoragGambleOurPermacultureLife 6 років тому +1

      Yes, you could simplify even further to these 2 ingredients. I add the coconut oil into this mix for its the texture, smell but mainly the antibacterial and antifungal properties it adds. If you prefer not to use it, you can still make a great salve with great consistency.

    • @danielleptc
      @danielleptc 6 років тому +1

      I can't believe I'd forgotten about coconut oil's amazing properties! Given the specific healing purposes of this calendula salve, using it makes perfect sense, but I'll make a note that it's not an essential ingredient in salve-making. Thank you!
