Kobie sabotage the relationship, Shaquille played college & dominated his position..Kobie grandfather was send him vhs tapes of Mike by the time he started in H.S. he thought he was grown..but a young spoiled punk,..Phill did great he kept Shaq from breaking Kobies spirit..Kobie played 19-20 years & won two championships credited to him (although Artest 22pts highest, rebounds & tenacious D won that for Kobie..but yet hes mentioned as a possible GOAT mainly b/c he was a Jordan clone & yes outstanding highlights...Now I'm not trying to tag on Kobie but he has a lot of negative years & stupid stuff in his resume..He was a legion in His own mind & he turned many players vs him as a leader you must show some humility in a intense Male dominated arena, they lost opportunities b4 Phil but being Phil the greatest coach ever! (How can you blame Phil) if it's TRUE what Kobie said Shaq said ok dont throw me the ball, do it yourself...Kobie couldn't...until Phil came & came back again...lesson..respect your elders esp teammates who you need to win..Kobie was his worst enemy. One of the greatest of the greatest..GOAT....UM????.

What you don't know or forget is that Kobe's improvement was extremely quick as soon as he got in the league. And everyone noticed it, including Shaq. That's the only reason Shaq even had beef w Kobe bc Kobe held his own and then some.

Read his book "Mamba Mentality" and how he breaks down every aspect of the game and how he would approach different types of other star players on both offense/defense. We not talking like that on some fan BS, he REALLY studied the sport to the point of almost fanatic obsession...

@@keithjoseph128 TBF...I've always said that it was, in this order, the level of fault:
(1) Shaq's
(2) Phil's
(3) Kobe's
(1) Shaq was the senior player, and he set the tone on Game Day and in the locker room (loose, fun), but that's not the only places where you have to set the tone. The training room, the practice floor, and your off days are where the real work is done and Shaq - as he openly admits, was NEVER about that. It's why Pippen NEVER questioned Jordan, Worthy and Scott Never went at Magic, and the other Celtics followed Bird; those guys ate, slept, and sh#t basketball and you were going to have to KILL them to take it from them. Again, Shaq prioritised having fun over being serious about his craft, and that's what it got him.
(2) Phil, as the "old sage", had the perfect situation in Chicago as he had an Alpha Dog who always set the tone AND was charismatic, so all he had to do was manage egos and strategize. In LA, after the first Championship, he has a "charismatic leader" - Shaq - who has poor work habits, and a "workhorse leader" - Kobe - who is socially awkward, and he , in my opinion, never figured it out. In fact, I think he took the easy way out, by making Kobe his whipping boy - like he did with Pippen - but that didn't go over well; I would say that he made the situation worse. I think that the ultimate solution was to trade Shaq after they lost in 2003 - who was the primary reason they lost to the Spurs - and properly build around Kobe, but they weren't going to do that. Phil improperly handled two Alpha Personalities : Shaq needed to get his ass in shape but Phil wasn't going to bash him because he was sensitive, and Kobe needed to become a different kind of leader, but Phil botched that as well.
(3) "Young Gun" Kobe's main issue was that he didn't play well with others and was a perfectionist. The only world that existed for him was the gym, and nothing else, as plenty of his contemporaries have said. A lot of his issues were "environmental" as he didn't grow up in the same social atmosphere as a lot of his peers. The closest player to him would probably be Grant Hill, as he came from a privileged family, went to private schools, and attended Duke. Kobe grew up in privilege, lived in Italy for many years, went to school in the suburbs, but never got "socialized", like Grant did, in college - he never had his adaptation phase, he never had to deal with "reality". That bubble burst with the Colorado rape trial, and suddenly, he's no longer America's Golden Child, and his team is mediocre. It isn't until Phil - to his credit - returns and a team builds around him that he has to organically grow with. He's still a bit of an Ass, but not to the extent that he was earlier in his career. I do give him more of a break because he was the youngest of the three, and he didn't know better to know better.
Also, as a side note, I will always BASH the Lakers for this : they NEVER got the right wing man for Kobe who could take the ballhandling responsibilities off of him so he could pace himself. I was apoplectic that they just didn't go and get Andre Iguodala when they could've...AAAAHHHH!!!!

Shaq was a powerhouse locomotive on the court with footwork that's never been displayed on court by a huge man. He'd he stayed in shape, the story would be so much different. Watching this video and remembering Kobe and Shaq together. If Shaq had gotten in shape and stayed in shape like did when he first went to Miami - I have no doubt that the Lakers would have won at least 3 more titles to rival Jordan and Pip or perhaps they may have even topped them. The two were unstoppable together, you had to double/triple Shaq and that left the Mamba to do his thing, if you didn’t Shaq was getting 30-40/game - easy!!!
