When the first prospectors set out for the American west, they were looking for gold, and in Montana, they found their share. But some of these unwittingly lucky miners also found another dense precious mineral - sapphires. Most of the sapphires found in the 1800s in Montana were for industrial use. But in the late 1900s, heat treatment processes were developed that made Montana sapphires one of the most important American-mined gems. Join GIA researchers Nathan Renfro and Aaron Palke as they unearth the history and gemology of these stunning jewels.

I just ordered some sapphire paydirt from spokane , im getting others soon as well. I figured what better way to get stones to practice cutting with, maybe find an heirloom stone if im lucky and have it cut professionally .i find the subdued green/blue/teal/lavender/violet with a steely or silvery color elegently understaded. Same colors from tanzanite too...and iolite...zyrcon, spinell and diamond and some alexandrites . im sure i am forgetting some...for the deep and vibrant colors i like benitoite blue, Emerald blue green , deeper red ruby, spinell, garnet, and bixbite. Im not a fan of any yellow or orange colored anything but id happily take it as stone color . I do saddly keep seeing more or less the same exact information over and over about montana sapphire. Gia does not disapoint in giving one of the best and moat detailed. I still feel there has to be more to learn about the area ,by far. I have also just seen the rock creek map in a video that was made about 3 years ago. There was one section on the main river and after a bend in the river, certain segments of certain tributaries are highlighted. This is super cool Stuff! I was just wondering hpw many days more it will be before i get my dirt and this posts. So im watching , all super excited.33minutes and 22 seconds, Those inclusions look alot like Sperrylite crystal from the shape and color.
I love Montana Sapphires , best in the world . I have some

I think Yogos are the highest quality in the world along with Kashmir, and Burmese sapphire. Great unheated blue color, no color zoning, very little inclusions. I have seen some beautiful Tajikistan sapphire aswell.
