  • Cordyline - Cordyline australis UK ( How to take cuttings from a Cordyline ) Cordyline Propagation - Cordyline Care
Welcome to this extended video on Cordyline's showing Cordyline propagation, as we show you how to take cuttings from a Cordyline to create new Cordyline plants, Cordyline care and everything you need to know about growing Cordylines ( How to grow Cordyline ).
A Cordyline can come in many different sizes and colors but I have been successful with cordyline propagation using the methods within this video in obtaining new Cordyline plants for Cordyline red star, Cordyline Australis, and several other varieties of Cordyline.
In this Cordyline video, we show all the steps of Cordyline propagation plus show you how the Cordyline plants are doing 4 months on in this extended video.
The Cordyline has become a very popular plant to grow and in particular, Cordyline Australis has become a very popular tree throughout Europe and in the UK.
Cordyline Australis UK over the last 10 -15 years is now found growing in many gardens and public parks in the UK.
As the Cordyline can survive in temperatures dropping down to minus 10 degrees it has become a firm favorite in the UK to bring a subtropical look to English gardens and parks. In our garden, the Cordyline has survived minus 15 and snow!
The Cordyline Australis tree originates from New Zealand and can grow up to 20 meters tall with a stout trunk and sword-like leaves that are a meter in length. Cordyline Australis is also known as cabbage palm or cabbage tree.
Taking cuttings from a Cordyline is a very easy process as the Cordyline is a very hardy plant and within this video, I show both methods of taking Cordyline cuttings that I use.
If you need some rooting powder to get your Cordylines off to a good start, here are the Amazon links:
    Amazon.com. amzn.to/2AzpLn3
    alternative on Amazon.com amzn.to/37r2NdM
    Amazon.co.uk. amzn.to/2AwvTws
    alternative amzn.to/2UGsTEx
    Amazon.fr. amzn.to/2BVJQ7o
For large containers with built-in water reservoirs that are ideal for large plants and Cordylines:
    at Amazon.com : amzn.to/3fBvFmA
    at Amazon.co.uk : amzn.to/2YdamC3
Cordyline Australis are very easy to care for, the only jobs we do is to remove the Cordyline flower stalks after flowering and to remove the dying cordyline leaves.
As the Cordyline Australis grow the lower leaves turn brown and dry up and we simply pull the leaves of the tree and this helps create the fantastic looking bark of the Cordyline - don't worry about the cordyline leaves that are out of reach, after strong winds your see all the loose leaves on the ground.
Growing Cordyline Australis is very easy and they do not need a lot of care and maintenance hence why they have become so popular with their stunning all year exotic look.
Cordyline Australis flowers in May and the flowers consist of a long spike ( flower head ) clustered with hundreds of tiny white flowers, our main trees are now covered with these huge flower spikes every year.
The flowers of the Cordyline Australis smell just like Jasmin and during the month of May into June our garden is filled with the fragrance of our Cordyline trees.
After the flowers die back the flower spikes of the Cordylines turn into clusters of little red/purple berries.
As Naomi is a Filipino living in France, I wanted to create a subtropical garden for her and our guest to enjoy and the Cordyline plants really add to the tropical feel of the garden. The australis becomes a highlight of any garden.
I hope you enjoyed this video entitled " Cordyline - Cordyline Propagation ( How to take cuttings from a Cordyline ) Cordyline Care ( Cordyline Australis UK )" If you did I look forward to seeing your comments below.
I bought my first Cordyline back in 2006 and spent 300 Euros for a pair of Cordyline Australis about 6 ft tall for instant impact - these Cordyline are now over 20 ft high and over the last 14 years have supplied me with many free cordyline plants which I have either planted in our garden or given away to friends as gifts
Let us know also if you have any other methods of Cordyline propagation that have worked for you and if you already enjoy cordylines growing in your garden.
What species of cordyline have you got growing in your garden? Have you got a Cordyline Australis?
Thanks so much for watching - all the best Naomi & Mark

Hi Mark, I had a very poor success rate with cuttings in new pots bedded in compost. The reason I put this down to is the cuttings become loose like you suggested in the video. I now still put the cuttings in pots but mix 80% soil to 20% compost resulting in a much firmer bed. I don’t lose many now
    Thanks
    Peter

Great video. How much water should we give these little shoots once planted in a pot? Should the soil remain humid or should it dry between watering? We are in Chile. Our plants do not grow as fast as in France even if we are in a Mediterranean climate. After 4 years, ours only measures about 1 meter.

Thanks for your video. I have one in my garden and have many baby plants on the bottom. In fact they’re a bit older and some of them developed the trunk already. Can I cut them and replant them??

Hi I detached two large sucklings from an old stump and put them in a jar of water on my kitchen windowsill. Will they root this way?

    • @r11hno
      @r11hno  2 роки тому

I would have put one in water and the other in soil and see which does better, if they have no roots it does not work every time

I have cordyline red star but I'm not sure it matters for the principles here? My mother plants are 10 years old, they've both reproduced two "babies" but they're growing under the soil so I didn't know how to separate them to replant them. If it's same principle now I know how, and I can replant 4 new free plants :) thank you ❤️
