I bought this and I'm extremely disappointed with it. They completely screwed up the player hitboxes, you're not allowed to get close to enemies at all without getting hit. There's a lot of other problems (some of the movement feels weird) but the jacked hitboxes completely ruin the feel of the game compared to the original.
Pretty, but not a patch on the original, especially the music (what's with the messed-up beginning to each individual character's theme?!). Kind of surprised they left in Akiko's pantshot though, and the cigarette packets too. (^u^;)

I felt the same way that you felt, but I think it's a "Whole new game" and I have no choice but to adapt.
