I am one of those men thank you for the information I am 59 years old I retired coal miner I live in West Virginia. We have a lot of thermal wind here it is nearly impossible not to get blown up because the wind swirl, I am going to give it a try. And thank you. 🦌🦌🦌🦌🦌🦌🦌💥🔥
I been smoking my clothes this year and I’ve been having deer coming within ten yards and I’ll tell you also I tried.. balsam fir incense logs. I light one of those and let it smoke while I’m out in the woods. I’ve had buck down wind and never flinch and this is during archery. So yes I’m a firm believer that the smell of smoke definitely masks your scent and I don’t use any scent lock clothes. In fact I wear seclusion 3d total concealment camo that is screened since it’s still pretty warm out and I hunt on the ground.
Yup stand over a bee hive smoke can with wood or anything in the ground right before I walk out use a torch to get it going quick and drop a water bottle in it when your done takes 2 mins
The best scent cover you can get and this is from a serious Deer Hunter with 4050 years experience is to play the wind. I don't care what you're using when a deer comes up from behind you. They're gonna smell you always hunt with the wind in your face
So I'm curious if you think taking like an aluminum foil pan filling it with water and smoking it and then put that in the spray bottle and use that as well or instead
Back in the old days we used to camp and sit around the campfire all night. I think back then those generation of deer knew the hunters all smelled like smoke and avoided. I think with less campers these days the deer aren't aware. Im talking deer camps where 30 campers would all have a fire and also remember when everyone leaves deer walk through these camps and investigate and learn.
I just smoke cigarettes while I'm on stand lol. Seriously though, I've had deer and hogs come in more than once while I was smoking a cigarette, while my non-smoking buddies didn't see squat lol.
Yeah iv heard that before I don’t smoke but don’t mind smelling like a bondfire doe’s move right under my tree and they are always the ones to bust you if your gonna get caught. I change out and try and keep clothes as sweat free and sent less as possible but there’s only so much you can do at times.
This has been the best way for years, I read an article that Fred Bear wrote in the late 1970tys, and this was his go too.. I personally like Apple wood or cherry wood, they both last for days...
As you're hunting with smoked filled clothes and the wind is in your face, you could bathe in gasoline and it wont matter. Guy around home wanted to try diesel fuel and hydraulic oil because thats what leakes off tractors and combines. He never tried it.
I'm big on scent control, as any serious hunter must be. That said, I feel the urge to bring some light to the topic of "cover scents."" Im a professional k9 handler/master trainer, and so the science of scent is directly in my wheelhouse. Deer, just like dogs, have the ability to individually distinguish over 100 scents simultaneously. To illustrate this to my students, I use the "vegetable stew" analogy. When you and I smell the stew, we may pick up one or two of the more prominent scents like onions or garlic, but for the most part, we smell the totality of the concoction... the sum of its parts. Deer, on the other hand, smell each odor individually and simultaneously. It is literally just as impossible to cover-up your human odor as it is to completely eliminate it. If you are fooling deer, its because you are wind and scent conscious. I do believe you can reduce your scent signature and fool a deer into believing you are farther away that you actually are. The commercial hunting industry has soaked billions out of the everyday hunter and I'm here to tell you that its all placebo. Nonetheless, I really do love the channel and hope you have continued success. God bless.
I certainly appreciate your perspective and have read of the tests with dogs and a guy with a carbon suit on. If we know anything about these creatures we know the good Lord gave them a sense of smell that us humans can barely fathom. However, taking variables into account, like hunting in areas where deer are used to harmless human intrusion, or maybe just the possibility that a deer might be distracted from a certain smell by a different smell, like I’ve seen with my Labrador….how can you be 100% certain that the success testified here for smoking clothes is 100% placebo?
Yeah I recently watched a test where they took a search and rescue dog and would walk him into a field down wind of a human wearing different cover scents and cover scent clothing. There were several giant boxes for the human to hide in and each time they turned the dog loose he ran straight to the correct box like it was nothing. If you can't fool a dog's nose you certainly can't fool a deer or hogs nose since they are both better. Quite a bit better actually. My routine for years has just been to wash hunting clothes in cheap scent free detergent and rinse off in the shower before going out but this is just to help eliminate any extra and unnecessary smells. Not to cover my scent. The only way you're doing that is by playing the wind and hoping it doesn't change on you
makes sense my grandpa would go into the woods pick out a place to sit and start a fire not lying and every year shot deer. So point taking stand around the fire pit at night then wear the same clothes in the morning.
Been trying to get close to a local coywolf pack by using a mixture of water, baking soda, and Hydrogen peroxide but while to works ok for Deer the coys can still smell my foot tracks 3 hours later on my game cam with their bionic noses. I'm going to rethink my approach and give smoke a shot. Thanks for the tip

Had a hunting buddy in the 90s who used this approach. When we hunted from tents it was really all we could do.

Does it turn women on at the bar ?
Hmm, a 30.06 and a muzzle loader. I’m guessing there was some distance involved. Was scent control even necessary?
Yes.. at all times.. a deers nose is it's best defense
@@kuntryboy4lyfe125 I think you missed my point.
@@russelllangworthy8855 you sound like a bow hunter purist

I agree, but that's a lot easier said than done.
I use a $10 bee smoker each time i go in the woods. Works perfect
Will it cover up the smell of a Marlboro? If not then i will just keep playing the wind!
So I'm curious if you think taking like an aluminum foil pan filling it with water and smoking it and then put that in the spray bottle and use that as well or instead
Thanks for the info, I am always so concerned with packing clothes away at night when we have a camp fire going.
What part of north east Oklahoma are you from I’m from around Pawhuska

My grandfather use to build Fires in the woods while hunting and my uncles use to laugh at him until there heard him shoot a buck everytime.
Thanks man. Thats pretty good advice
Good video, thank you for sharing. I’ll give smoking a try.

But you'll never kill a mature deer promise I did the same thing then young dumb ones who don't know what it is is what your seeing
@@tyler1671 Already have, And don't leave out the hogs. They're smarter than deer.
BTW the native Americans also used to use tobacco smoke as a cover scent.

Fred bear never used camo or scent blocks play the wind use the smoke. I leave my clothes outside like my pappy did it helps.
I'll be doing it thanks !!

I boil cedar shavings strain the cedar water into spray bottle and spray down everytime before i go in the woods and I smell like a cedar tree !
That’s a good idea for those of us who can’t burn things. I’ll have to that!
NEVER HEARD THIS..but ironically I've seen 3 separate videos on this where people SWEAR by it! I've killed many a deer with a Marlboro lit!!!

Who's the black lab mouth breather constantly distracting me during the video that's behind the camera? 😆
I agree 100 percent
Yeah because all animals run towards fire😂😂🙄🙄
Native American Indians did this
Scent blocker don't work - I can prove it - next time your on stand fart & I promise you will smell it - proof it don't work 😂
lol, dude you need to mix up your diet...and take a probiotic. Good luck!

A deer can smell way better than a bloodhound. You aren't tricking them.
