I see heaps of people say this but the truth is, those nsw teams were some of the best teams ever assembled. I'd even say that many of those teams that Gallen lead were even leagues better than this current nsw team. The issue wasn't how good they could play in a single game, it was just how utterly dominant Qld was. That special team has to be among the greatest teams ever assembled, not just in NRL but in all sport. Up there with the dream team USA basketball team and Barcelona in the early 2010's. Like seriously incomprehensible how absolutely insane it is to win 8 back-to-back-to-back. Just insane.
@@Yahboai lol only if league was a more global force then would your statement make sense. League's still too small for that kinda statement to hold any value because the pool to draw from with league players is about 5% of other sports, so they're good players, but it's not like there's a huge population of high level players.
Are you referring to the column that Peter FitzSimons wrote the day before.....stating that the Blues would beat this "aging" Maroons team? I'm sure QLD would have been motivated by that story.
in 2023, james tamou would not only receive 10 in the bin but a full sending off for what he done in 9:00. Just goes to show how much the game has changed.
This was one of the awesome eras of origin to grow up and watch throughout my teens and into adulthood. 2015 was the last year I really paid attention to League after my broncos lost that final;l, That origin squad was so dominant and was a pleasure to watch. I don't believe any NSW side could compete with them even today's squad.
I feel ya mate. I'm a broncs fan and I stopped watching league (apart from origin and the GF) for years after that game. Was happy for the cowboys but man that game was heartbreaking...
The main upside to losing that final as a Broncos fan was to see Thurston finally lead a team to a Premiership. I can only imagine what the flogs south of the border would still be saying if he hadn't, they'd certainly be suggesting that he shouldn't be made a future immortal. Certainly a silver lining in that result...
Honestly the fact that the blues won a game between 06 and 17 is incredible to me. This QLD group had genuinely like 5 of the top 15ish players of all time in the team. Ridiculous
The blues didn't show any respect for the big boys. Hence, on the 80th minute when Smith wants to shake hands with them, Thurston took him away saying let us celebrate by ourselves.😝😍😍
how aaron woods ever made it to the origin arena is anyones guess. Most over rated softy ever, along with Michael Vella (Parramatta) - what were the blues selectors thinking.
You have a look at his stats prior to 2018 and he was actually a solid prop. There's a reason he got picked for australia in the world cup final. Poor guy is well past his used by date now unfortunately.
The ref understood the game. Understood how players were. Common sense. The Spare tackle no sin bin. Tamou no sin bin.Yet today all those would have been sin bin or red carded witch would take away from the game. If the player is find then there is no need for card. Also notice how the ref called the two captains over and warn them. It cool things down. Today the ref would call six again an again then sin bin a player for laying on for 3 second longer like what happen last SOO game.
Truly a signature Blues performance

Might be good today...But the early Nineties when it all started made this in only second to the best who started it all.

For a queenslander it is
The absolute best drubbing that I’ve ever seen. Totally satisfying!
being there that night, the energy was too unmatched, this match was absolutely historic, and i'll never forget the experience of it, QLD4EVA
also i do wish to add Hogdes played absolutely amazingly that night, for him to clutch out that final kick was simply emotional

crazy that nowadays there would've been at least 5 sin bins that game
...and if these sinbin occurs, then imagine how many points Queensland could pile up by the time we reach full 80 minutes.

And Tamou. Loved it when we saw them picked.
From a Qld supporter Klemmer was way better
beau scott loved a late shot
Weird that some of these blues legends are still in the NRL and not getting picked. Maybe they getting old.
I do not know how James Tamou didn't get sent off for that brain explosion on Lillyman.
It amazed me also, the swinging arm then the punch it deserved a send off
Loved watching this at Equip in Queensland, the vibes was insane lost my voice that night ❤️
