  • A magnitude 7.3 earthquake struck northeastern Japan, off the coast of Fukushima, on Saturday night. More than 130 people have been reported injured and some 860,000 homes are without power. The Meteorological Agency believes this was an aftershock from the massive earthquake that hit the region in 2011.
    The initial quake was followed by a series of aftershocks.
    Back in 2011, a similar earthquake in the same region triggered a tsunami. That caused a severe nuclear accident. The Fukushima nuclear power plant had a meltdown that leaked radiation into the atmosphere and the Pacific Ocean. The clean-up from that disaster will likely take another 30 to 40 years.
    Japanese Prime Minister Yoshihide Suga has dismissed worries that Fukushima's nuclear plant could suffer a new leak from this latest quake.
    As residents began cleaning up the aftermath, officials are calling on people to remain on the alert for further aftershocks in the coming weeks.

    The "similar earthquake" 10 years ago was a 9.0 earthquake. Which is luckily very rare. 7.3 is bad enough.

      @@faustinae3927 lol why do you people attribute earthquakes to the government?
      They can’t do anything regarding quakes, fracking only goes so far and there is no fracking there, they also can’t generate mega quakes either, this is a Divine moment that’s approaching and whatever comes no one is ready for.
      The governments have no idea how to prepare so they will hide in the rocks and caves and mountains and whatever comes then oh well.
      Destruction aside, it’s redemption for the people of GOD and the sinners because he doesn’t come for the saved, he comes for those that DO NOT KNOW HIM OR BELIEVE.
      That’s what is going to happen.

    Right before the quake happened my phone kept shouting earth quake earth quake earth quake!!! And then the quake happened at first I was calm but the quake was different from the quakes that happened before it lasted for 2 minutes. And japan has built such a good system that no matter what kind of a disaster happens there is hundreds of companies in each district that would start working the very next day to fix the problem, it is not like other countries which will wait for weeks before someone pays them then they could start working.

      The way humans perceive time relative to their own life spans is what makes it seem so unbeleivable. A shift in positions of tektonic plates is gradual. It can take millions of years for them to settle into set positions.
      There is no definitive way for humans to accurately mark when plates start and stop shifting. We can only analyze the effect after and while they take place.

    • @ClimateDude
      @ClimateDude 3 роки тому +4

      @@centeguahan3760 How is it not scientifically possible?! 10 years is absolutely nothing on the geologic time scale on which tectonic plates move. You can pray for the people because the Japanese know there danger of earthquakes but Japan sits on the boundary of multiple major tectonic plates. Prayer won't stop those massive forces.

      Luckily Japan has decent earthquake protection. If you notice yes there are objects in the houses that are thrown around but unlike for instance America their houses are still standing. What I am trying to say is I hope everyone recovers but also I am impressed with Japans ability to actually prepare for earthquakes compared to other parts of the world
