At the recommendation of @ArnelAlina and @iflipover7749 I had the opportunity to hang out with @foodiemamaph and sample some of Marikina's best eats. What's your favourites in Marikina?
My favorite in Marikina is this another place that serves "Waknatoy." Waknatoy is my Mother's signature dish when it comes to cooking. Sadly, my Mom passed away in 2021. I am still depressed because I miss her so much. The place where I buy Waknatoy is at "Mama Chit's" Restaurant. It is located at 278 J. P. Rizal, Marikina City. The restaurant also has another signature dish called "Cuapao."
every marikeño and marikeña agree on this...the best tasting tagalog...marikina food is the food cooked @ home of every marikeña...u haven t tasted the best yet until ur invited to a marikeño marikeña home during fiestas...holidays ..anyday...did u try eating menudo...sa pickles,...mechado...rellenong bangus...hamonado...llanera...pork meatloaf in a mold..marikina s known for this...quezon is known for hardinera
Lilac street is a food crawl in SSS village where I grew up..”Dapo at Tisa” is probably the most notable their KareKare and Bagoong is something else.. along with Forget Me Not Cafe, Miguel and Maria etc
Trivia: Putong PULÓ came from San Rafael, Bulacan which is 2 Barangays (barrio) from my Barangay called Puló. This type of Puto are the small ones either colored white or brownish-orangy. I was born and grew up in Manila and as a little kid then, I would ask my Dad to bring me a brown bag of mixed puto whenever he went home to the province to see my grandma and our ricefields. But now, the grandmas & moms who used to make this home business in Puló have gone, and their kids who have gotten educated pursued other careers and no longer continued eith the business. Now Putong Pulo are made in other places.
pickles on a dish is not unusual. Every fiesta you can eat that here. It is actually Afritada. Caldereta is the spicy one and the menudo is the one in bite sized pieces.
To be fair, I have been in the Philippines for 6 months all over the country. I eat for a living and the watnakoy was the first dish I have seen with pickles in it
Putong pulo originated from Polo, Valenzuela City, Bulacan. Its brown because of the brown sugar, while Putong Calasiao, is very similar in consistency and size but its white due to the use of white sugar.
My brother from another mother has done it again!. Awesome vlog bro You are just killin' it. So grateful i diged a bit deeper than the cover of your book! You are a helluva Foodie Master bro.
What is with the cheese? Cheese is showing up all over Asia on all types of foods. I was in Hawaii last week and found my favorite, the traditional Ensamada without cheese, just butter and sugar. It was so delicious and brought back great memories. Sorry about my cheese rant. Pan de Sal is just a dinner roll, looks like one anyway. You can put anything into it...a big pat of butter! 😋
Enjoy Filipino food, glad you like it. If you're a foreigner and start to love Filipino food. Beware of your overall health, specially your cholesterol and sugar level. You need medicine support specially if you love meat. But good thing in my household we love fish, seafoods and more veggies. Very seldom we eat pork coz both my parents have hypertension.
I am blown away that I have never had it. This video was filmed a couple weeks ago, and I have still yet to try it. I am refusing it until the opportunity to do it on camera presents itself.
I don't subscribe too much at vlogger. You got me at pinoy logging in the same shirt color. I will soon support you, I hope you get more success here in the Philippines
My mom cook waknatoy really good coz my dad born and raised in San Roque Marikina and my dad is shoe maker. My mom marinated the meat in soy sauce calamansi juice pickles cheese in almost 8hour refrigerate it and cook it the other day. Don't think is waknatoy is sweet coz my mom never add any sugar.
Thanks for subbing and welcome aboard! Khee is one of my new heroes in life. Her knowledge of filipino food and more specifically the food of Marikina are unmatched. She knows all the great spots that visitors would have no way of finding.
18:06 I can even tell you where to go, because there is a good bakery and the owner is very passionate and knowledgeable about baking and products. "Tinapayan Festival Bakeshoppe" - he has the biggest variety of Pandesal and also produces historical pandesal vs. the one that filipinos currently eat. Among, of course, other products. If you really want to make a bakery episode, go to Lucito 'Chito' Chavez at his bakery near Santo Tomas University.
Thank you for the amazing tips. I am back in Manila now and not sure I will be heading back up that way. I may need to find a series of bakeries down here to try and work with.
@@PureDetour I agree. She is very nice and very knowledgeable about the Filipino Food Culture. I am also a big fan of this channel. I actually saw you when you were filming one of your earlier videos. It was in an Army Navy restaurant. Keep exploring the Filipino Food Culture. I believe that there are more local food to discover. You have fan for life.

😂😂😂 No worries on the rant.
As to the cheese I have seen it here more than anywhere else, but oddly enough it works

bihon con lechon
I've never had that puto, is it really good? It has brown sugar, is it a sweet type of puto? Putong Pulo, I'll keep this in mind.
It is a little sweet yes. So worth it though.
What? You’ve been there for a while, you haven’t eat Pan de Sal😃, the new lady vlogger from Venezuela, saw a Pan de Sal vendor in his trike with oven👍

I keep on saying I haven’t heard this man tasted a Filipino food that is awful. We Filipinos are more picky than him.
I don't show it if it is bad. And trust me, every country I have been to has bad food. I have over 80 hours worth of footage that will never be seen

The sweetness came from the pickles they used. It was my first time with it, but I loved it! I'll bet your moms is fantastic
I have tried that kind of dish here in Arizona d pansit bihon, canton, with shrimp n lechon kawali.
Nice, was it good or was it dumbed down for the local palette?
always get pad de sal baked in a "pugon" or brick oven , not only its traditional but also tastes better.
Thanks for the tip
Everything looks good...drooling here...so surprised that you have not tasted pan de sal yet....😂
Not yet! STILL. I am on the hunt for the best in the area I am in now
@@PureDetour Try a local bakery to ensure freshness. The place where you had kalihim will be a good start.
Hmmm... now I want to try that Rocha's puto

You know people enjoy good food when they are giving happy vibes.
You got that right. And being in Khee's company it was easy to be happy
I have a challenge.. No food cooked with oil and no vinegar, soy sauce or fish sauce. For one week!
How in the world will I do that?😂
@@PureDetour I was going to add garlic and onion but that would just omit all Filipino dishes😁
